MO 1.0.7 downloading mods twice from Nexus

Question

Posted

Since updating to the latest 1.0.7 RC8 I have noticed that clicking Download with Manager on the Nexus is causing MO to attempt to download every file twice. This, of course, gives errors when the duplicate download has finished and attempts to tidy up but finds the first download task has already done this

Is there anything I should do to preserve my load order but reset MO so that it just attempts to get files once?

Browser -  IE 11.0

OS - Win7-64

This is the contents of that .ini...

[handlers]

size=2

1\games=skyrim

1\executable=C:\\Games\\ModOrganizer\\ModOrganizer.exe

2\games="oblivion,fallout3,falloutnv,skyrim,other"

2\executable=C:\\Games\\Nexus Mod Manager\\NexusClient.exe

The globe button was still greyed out after I moved the nxmhandlers.ini to the desktop.

A new one was created and the contents shortened to...

[handlers]

size=1

1\games=skyrim

1\executable=C:\\Games\\ModOrganizer\\ModOrganizer.exe

MO still attempted to download a test file from the Nexus twice.

The Globe button was greyed out? Never heard of that before. Do this for me:

1. Press Winkey+R to open the Run dialog

2. Type regedit and enter

3. Find this key for me and tell me what you got in there (or take a screenshot):

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\nxm\shell\open\command

Before I do that, I'll do a clean install after backing up my existing mods and profiles. If it is still present, then I'll file a report.

Out of interest and as an aside, do you know why the Nexus exclude the Mod Organizer mod from their Search results? Entering "Mod Organizer" does not find the mod itself (you just see the Beginners Guide) but it is present on the Nexus if you use Google to locate it.

EDIT : It was content filtering... oops.

I can't see how that is going to help you, as everything, that I know of, that controls the downloading mechanism of Mod Organizer is intact.

If you still want to wipe it out, I suggest you keep the mods, downloads, and profiles folders. That way you can move those into your new Mod Organizer install without losing your installed mods, downloaded files for mods, or profiles, which includes your load orders, etc.

Possibly IE is starting the second download automatically, I don't use IE so can't tell you where to look or even if download/open extension .??? with... function exists for IE. Worth checking if it does exist.

I've noticed this myself today as well. I have a specific setup (using sandboxie) which forces me start to start IE for the downloading of mods. I've downloaded all mods with a PRE MO 1.07 version I believe without any problems. Today I downloaded Convenient horses for testing with IE and indeed it got downloaded twice. After that tried it with Chrome and it got downloaded once. Have also downloaded it with FireFox and it also got downloaded once. Like I said I did not have this problem in the past with older MO versions. Have a MO 1.04 and 1.05 MO also installed on my system (for testing the NMM importer). MO 1.05 also downloads the file twice. With 1.04 I found out something which might be of interest. In MO 1.04 I did NOT enable 'Automatically Logi-in automaticall on Nexus'. When I downloaded the file with 'download with manager' I noticed that IE asked me TWICE to login. After the first login I saw that it appeared in the download section. I waited a bit and nothing happened then I inserted username/password the second time and presto the file appeared in the download section. Hence it was downloading twice!!!

But in the past did not happen. I remember noticing that I was using IE11. Did a check and it was released for W7 around the 31th of October. I must have it installed during a windows update.

Summary: I can reproduce your issue with IE 11. IE 11 somehow seems the culprit. It also happen with MO 1.04 and 1.05 in combination with IE11. It did NOT happen with an older version of IE (downloaded hundreds of mods with MO and IE back then).

Note: Normally MO informs you if you try to download a file which you already have downloaded. It compares the filenames for that. This does not work in this case. "You start downloading modx which results in the end in filex on the disk. File filex.unfinished is created in the downloads directory of MO, filex.unfinished is completey downloaded, filex.unfinished is renamed to filex. paste from older thread>. MO can't check the filename because it currently has an .unfinished extension.

EDIT: Changed my summary because of new found information.

I think it is likely that it started when IE 11 was dropped on us (which was about the time that MO 1.0.7 arrived too). I will investigate the settings in IE 11 to see if anything jumps out at me.

I've updated my post #13. On my system it IS caused by the newly introduced IE11 !!

@rootsrat. You are correct, it is a suboptimal browser. I use it for my specific setup. I use sandboxIE which means my browsers run in a secure 'sandbox'. Programs started by a browser also run in this sandbox. Ie clicking download with manager start MO in a sandbox (separate from the normal MO). I lookup files in firefox then copy the url in a NON sandboxed version of IE and then let MO download the files. Works like a charm. I can totally recommend sandboxIE, so much safer.
