Hey guys.  I've finished re-installing revisited and done my modifications to it for a second time.  Here's the link to my past struggles  https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=2799&page=7

Good thing is that soul crushing inventory ctd issue which was unexplainable and uncurable is a thing of the past.  New issue is freezing.  I've played for about 2 days (for not an insane amount of hours) and I've suffered 3 freezes.  Two of the freezes were while attacking an enemy with spells...I'm pretty sure my system ram isn't the issue because the highest I've seen it go is 2.5-2.6k.  I've noticed a few other weird glitches.  When I entered Riverwood a few ppl attacked me =/, white run guards came and killed the black smith and his wife, that archer elf, attacked their kid which didn't die (I guess my killable children mod isn't working); I killed Gerdur...other than that the rest of the Riverwood ppl were peaceful.  Ill just list the issues:

-Aggressive npcs with no cause (1 case)

-Possibly killed by invisible animal (1 case, I do know this is usually a Skytest issue but I've had this issue before; I checked all the animal types that were invisible prior and they seem to be fine)

-Inconsistent FPS, performing WAY under my systems capabilities (I'm not even playing on Ultra, I'm using realvision performance edition...I know Bethesda s incapable of making a decent game engine buyt holding around 60 fps with random spikes to 30 fps when facing certain directions or whatever is frustrating)

-FREEZING (If its not 1 thing its another)

I dont have the time or heart to really do another mod by mod trouble shoot campaign; but if any of you guys have any ideas I'd love to hear them. C

Spell casting freezes are usually the realm of Deadly Spell Impacts and Burn Freeze Shock Effects try disabling them and see if they go away. If it's when you're hitting say the ground or an enemy then it's likely DSI. As far as the FPS is concerned get yourself a nice cup of chamomile tea and tell yourself it's going to be ok. Random lag spikes happen randomly and usually because the game hasn't unloaded or is loading too much of something.

For the possible invisible animal are you sure you weren't damaged by say hitting a dead body or hitting a metallic object.

Also, If you have been playing non-stop from two days and only had three freezes and zero crashes then I'd say you are lucky. Beth games are unstable enough during long play session when they are vanilla, and you have a ton of mods that could make things go wrong. Just remember to save a lot so you don't get to angry about a freeze here and there if you somehow get to play for 5 hours on end.

I gotta agree,

Sounds like you have a reasonably stable game.

It looks to me like you have Skyrim Revisited, along with the ASIS-SkyRe, and on top some extra mods? Or at least ones I'm not recognizing off the top of my head.

Really, I don't know how many .esps you have, but that could be an issue if you are getting up to 255 as the commonly accepted cap iirc, but you could run into problems with less even maybe?

You say it's not a RAM issue, but it could still be a script issue, or a combination of the two producing too much overall strain at once. You could try cutting back a few textures here and there or optimizing a few more or cutting out some heavy scripted mods.

I don't think you're going to get that magic bullet answer because I'm not sure there is one. If you installed the guide correctly, followed the ASIS-SkyRe guide correctly, properly optimized textures, properly cleaned other mods you added, properly followed BOSS and edited BUM, properly configured all the bashed/general/compatibility patches, and have good hardware settings (with good stable overclocks if you have them) then you shouldn't have too many problems.

What you are describing sounds like a slight pain, but as long as there is nothing reproducible or occurring multiple times in multiple places... then I think you are about as good as you can get.

Save often etc, otherwise it becomes a question of do you want all the XYZ features and deal with a little bit of chaos or do you want 100% stability but miss out on XYZ features.

If you can get the game more stable, then that's awesome! But, I think I was playing with worse freezing and CTD than you when I had my installation (it was really dirty and quickly put together). I mean I was crashing left and right sometimes and had multiple times I had to load an old save just to get my current one to load. I still played the heck out of it for awhile, now I decided I would like to get my game to your level of stability and so I'm redoing everything correctly. I would say that the one thing that sounds like it is a bug or something is up is the random NPC attack, I don't think I've heard of that happening- but... if it's just happening in Riverwood then I think you should be okay as those NPC aren't really important. It sucks, but.. it's a small thing compared to the majesty of the rest of the game.

I used to get ALOT of freezes, i`ve posted about them many times, and found no solutions other than people telling me to chek my overclocks and try re-installing....

After many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many hours of testing. I managed to figure out my issues.

Your getting the same magic freezes i was....I fixed this by DDSopting all the magic mods down to 512 with 256 normals.....yes its small, but when your looking at the magic, its being cast and flying around, you WILL NOT notice any difference.

Check my settings and mods ....... https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=2653&pid=40072#pid40072

Maybe I'm over reacting.  Ill see how the freezes go after I get in a good solid 3-4 hour play session.  Thanks for your suggestions as usual and I will definitely try to do some more optimizing.  I have a theory that freezes happen not only when your game hits the 3.1 ram cap, but also when it tries to process to large of a chunk at once.  If anyone had some uber papyrus settings that would be interesting to hear about.  Cheers.

With my DDSopt choices, im running full SR and about 20 extra mods, and my maximum VRAM is 2.7, averaging at about 2.2 and the game still looks as good as it did before the opt.....doing half sized normals really is an amazing feat of work.

And doing the magic mods, footprints, and Wet n Cold at 512 + 256 normals sorted out my freezes

Perfect, I'll optimize all of those right now and see how it goes.

I certainly seem to suffer a disproportionate share of my CTDs/freezes in combat versus mages so this makes sense. I'm just not sure if it's graphics related or due to scripts, etc. 7hr and Tormentor point to graphics. Getting a handle on ths would be a real public service.

Combat freezes are 90% of the time due to BSF effects, and Enhanced blood. Both add scripts to onhit events. Sometimes they conflict with each other other times they just dont like you.

Before disabling BSF effects then I could not even do a dragon fight inside solitude without a freeze(Lots of people standing around getting hit for testing purposes). After I disabled it I could have three dragons at a time fighting for over an hour without a single freeze. I also downscaled Deadly spell impacts, but imo that mod is the awesome one of the two... spiky ice is just too epic ;)

Yeah that just sounds odd... only other cause that comes to mind other then a bad mod install is bounty.

Even if you have just 1 septim on your head you can become public enemy nr. 1 with orders to shot first ask questions later. It is just a part of the very broken and silly TES criminal system.

Ive heard ppl who have this issue do a petty crime like steal an apple and then pay it off...i hope to god this works for me.  Also Im getting weird animations when i have spells out; like an enemy will attack or lunge at me and I will do the pulling out a sword animation rather than shooting fire (it wears off but still very annoying); i have a hunch its TK dodge mod.  Anyone else have issues with TK Dodge?  I'm going to look up how to do a safe removal of mods; I think its called clean save?
