SteamTinkerLaunch no longer opening my instance of MO2 after using Bethini

Question

Posted

To preface, I'm using Linux (Bazzite). I made a mistake it seems when setting up Bethini which resulted in the infinitely updating ini values. no big deal, I force quit and go to redo the setup but now when I luanch through Steamtinkerlaunch like I normally do MO2 no longer opens. If I manually click on the "Launch MO2" file in my MO2 folder it opens no problem. Any idea why this would happen and is there a fix?

So are you assuming BethINI broke your MO2 launcher? That's not likely, but I have never used either tool under Linux. BethINI Pie should be launched from inside MO2 as an executable.

I can only assume it had something to do Bethini, the problem only started after I closed MO2 during the infinite loading issue. I even successfully setup Bethini properly afterwards and it's running with no issues. I'm not very good with debugging or software in general (I'd even say I'm bad with it) but the only thing I can assume happened is something with Bethini. Another odd thing happened as well where the game asked me to redownload all the CC content after I launched Skyrim without STL although that seems to no longer be an issue...so far.

The CC download prompt happens if your skyrimprefs.ini has

[General]
bFreebiesSeen=0

Changing that value to '1' disables the prompt to download CC content. BethINI purposefully does not set that value to allow the game to handle it gracefully when needed. As soon as you click the 'OK' to download the CC content, the game itself sets the value to '1', and it stays there unless you re-validate files again via Steam.

Your MO launch issue is almost certainly not caused by BethINI and more likely has to do with the apps you are using to launch under Linux (I can't help there). You may find some answers on the topics following:
