sincerity2103 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Hi there, so, a few days ago, I installed some mods, disabled and re-enabled some to start a new save, but then I got a very particular FPS issue, where the game goes low FPS when walking / running, high (normal) FPS when sprinting / combat. To be more specific: - Exterior: around 15-20 FPS when walking or running - Exterior: around 40-60 FPS when sprinting or in combat - Interior: around 40-50 FPS when walking or sprinting - Interior: around 90-100 FPS when sprinting or in combat Relevant links: - Streamable clip showing me starting a new save (with Live Another Life), going straight to escape the cell, into Skyrim, and me saving and reloading the save - Loadorder Pastebin showing my plugins (Starred plugins are enabled ones) (has NSFW mods) - Modlists Pastebin showing my modlists (Tagged by Pastebin's filter, so had to use an alternative Pastebin, minus is disabled mod, plus is enabled mod) (has NSFW mods) Usually, I will get around 50-60FPS outside, with 90+ inside. It can dip a little bit in cities mainly, but otherwise, in my opinion, a perfectly playable experience.
z929669 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 I see your FPS dipping but not really in association with walking/running/sprinting but rather when plugins/scripts/MCM initialize. You should test on the WR tundra from a specific save and moving in a specific direction in the distance and begin testing only once all of the messages clear when loading the save. Test running far enough that another cell loads and well into that cell. If your drivers support logging, then do that and save/clear logs after each test so that you can examine the results in a spreadsheet for the two nearly-identical tests (but for walking vs sprinting). Your walking distance will take longer to reach the same point and have more log entries, obviously. Panning up/down/left/right will spoil the results to some degree so avoid that. I recommend using the automove functionality (I forget the kb button for that or if you can do it while either walking or sprinting as desired).

I've been trying to get some sort of response from r/Skyrimmods as well, but to no avail, so to get at least a reply on what to do is appreciated. Though, a (few) question(s). Quote I see your FPS dipping but not really in association with walking/running/sprinting but rather when plugins/scripts/MCM initialize. Expand Can you elaborate further on this? I....personally fail to see how those manages to affect the FPS specifically when I'm just walking or running, but not whilst sprinting. Quote If your drivers support logging, then do that Expand And what drivers are we talking about here? On that note, I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I tried walking a little bit in Windhelm. At most parts, 10-20FPS when walking, and 60-70FPS when sprinting. But for whatever reason, over time, the FPS gradually goes back to normal, to 70FPS, but then it went back to 10-20FPS when I walked into a new area in the city. Other than that, once again, thanks for the reply. I'll test it out.
z929669 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Shortly after loading a save, you get get a frame drop due to the game initializing. Wait 20 seconds and turn 360 degrees before testing a walk or a sprint. Do so (after loading the save) from the same starting point and going in the same direction. Your GPU software may have a logging feature.
sincerity2103 Posted February 23 Author Posted February 23 I'll test it out, thanks again for the replies!
