Adding new master to existing mod: not all installed mods available?

I would like to add new master files to an existing mod. When I choose "Add masters" in SSEEdit, I can choose from all ESMs and maybe half of all my installed ESP/ESLs are also listed, but not all.

What could be a reason that an installed ESP is not showing up as selectable as master file?

xEdit shows you the available plugins that are listed above the plugin you choose to add a master to. Maybe change the position of the plugin, put it further down the list?

Sort properly first, then choose masters.
