Help! I followed this guide to the T and Idk why it is unable to make grass LODs. What could I have messed up?

RESOLVED (mostly): It was due to my own errors:

A) If you still can't select grass LOD, you probably forgot to set GrassGID=gid  in the Edit Scripts/DynDOLOD/DynDOLOD_SSE.ini file.

B) From your description, you most likely forgot to set Level32=1 in the same Edit Scripts/DynDOLOD/DynDOLOD_SSE.ini file that you were in earlier. Failure to do this causes the game LOD to be completely out of whack like you are describing.

So yeah people, scroll through the STEP instructions SLOW. I think I messed up A/B/C and that's why I had a hot mess on my hands

Grass cache is installed with the Step Patch - Conflict Resolution, which allows you to generate grass LODs. If you still can't select grass LOD, you probably forgot to set GrassGID=gid  in the Edit Scripts/DynDOLOD/DynDOLOD_SSE.ini file.

Hey! Thanks. I looked and it says "GrassGID=cgid" instead of "gid". So I should remove the C and then redo the xLOD/TexGen/DynDOLOD steps? I def installed the conflict resolution patch

Ultimately it all fell apart. IDK why but LODGen refused to work properly. It would have things popping up every 5 feet, the draw distance was gone. I tried to follow every rule but now it seems my play of the game is over. I just cannot get this part of the setup to work, and its taken days to get to this point. xLODGen or bethini made my draw distance basically 0 and I cannot find another guide

Not sure if I can help but some of the steps I sometimes forget to do include selecting all world spaces, making sure that (TEMP) Cathedral Landscapes - xLODGen is enabled/disabled at the appropriate times, making sure the output folders are empty prior to running the generators, etc.  I feel your pain.  It takes a very long time to run through the process only to find out it you need to do it over for whatever reason.

What guide are you following exactly?

If you are using the Step SSE guide, then everything needed to succeed is explained, and you should revisit each mod/instruction to see what you missed. There's really no need to troubleshoot a non-issue, since that is laborious and time consuming for everyone involved. The answer is that something was missed or misinterpreted in the instructions. Go through the System Setup Guide and all steps and mods in the guide relating to grass and LODGen. If you find an unclear instruction, then please post about that specifically so we can assist.

If you are following our grass LOD guide, then that's a different matter, as it's an advanced procedure that requires familiarity with all of the tools needed. That guide has good guidance, but it does not go into detail on using the expired game to generate grass LOD and porting it into 1.6.640 version of the game.

I was following the SSE Anniversary Edition guide. After getting to the very end I noticed the draw distance was ruined. Far off mountains and even near mountains looked like curvy shapes, trees popped in every 20 feet, you could see the lights of dragonsreach before the actual city loaded in. Idk what step resulted in that but I feel it had something to do with LODGen... I have all the mods downloaded but am debating if I have the energy to attempt a third time

Sigh, that might be it. I have to attempt again. I'll slow down even further. Hopefully can play by weekend.

It's always best to move slowly and deliberatively from the start. It winds up saving lots of time, because NOBODY doesn't make at least one mistake while executing hundreds/thousands of variable tasks. People who move deliberatively catch their mistakes as they are making them or very soon after.

None of us hasn't made mistakes, so we have all been in this same boat.

This is why Wabbajack and Nexus Collections are a 'thing'. But we prefer the manual process, because it allows one to learn, customize, and maintain one's own custom builds.

It's like brewing:

  1. You can get the kit to make a decent kolsch (wort has been made for you, and every other ingredient has been chosen for you)
  2. OR you can brew your own from YOUR choice of grain(s), water, salt, and hops

#2 is far more rewarding and empowering when you get a good result.

Yeah, I've also learned new things like the fact that Parallax is not natively supported and 20X0 mod isn't a simple texture mod, so I won't be deviating or adding anything during this setup. Things like learning how to swap Enhanced Blood Textures Lite for the Main file can wait.

The only thing I know I'll deviate from is using Ordinator instead of the other perk line. I just can't live without it. But one step at a time, like you said. I clearly missed a few things in my first two attempts which is why it resulted in failure. And despite how Mod Organizer manages things I always feel like a mod screwup is a death sentence for the entire run.

Yeah, that's very good self advice. We always recommend following the guide exactly and verifying all is correct with the build straight from the guide (which we support, so you will get there). Then you simply copy this MO profile into another MO instance and modify what you want to change.

That way, you can always start over with the working build. Otherwise, you wind up changing things and forgetting what you changed ... back to square one.

Bro you actually helped me out in the middle of June this year when I had questions about Parallax support. Unfortunately my power supply died and I spent the rest of summer/fall replacing each component. Been trying to get back into Skyrim since June!!!!
