Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm new here:yes: but I plan on sticking around. I have some questions though and the internets are a bit lacking in answers. This seems like the best place to get well informed answers so I will fire away. [Questions in Bold]

  • My system is identical to Neovalen's except that I'm not running SLI(same brands and everything). In other words a 3570k@4.5|gtx670@1215. I try to maintain 60fps around 90% of the time in my games. What kind of fps can I generally expect with SR? Are there any recommendations to achieve the previously mentioned performance with SR?
  • The way I understand it is that SR uses STEP as its foundation and then adds a bunch of content mods that may or may not fit the STEP mandate(sounds great!). Is this accurate? What are the major additions to SR vs STEP? Are there any vids or screenies to look at? I couldn't find much of anything myself.
  • I do have some experience modding Skyrim. Early last year I had heavily modded Skyrim but never got around to playing much(common occurrence from what I hear:lol:). But now that Skyrim: Legendary Edition has released and the mods have matured I feel like it's time to start anew. I gather that SR v1? is a bit outdated. Should I go ahead and try to follow v1 now or should I wait for SR:LE?>(btw statmonster I would love to see Skyrim Lego Edition! That would be amazing!:woot:) I know Neo can't give a definitive date but maybe he would share a guesstimated release window;). I can't believe you manage this guide alone!(:impressed:)
If you've made it this far, Thanks for reading!:wallbash:

Read the sticky in the main Skyrim Revisited Forum it has a rough guestimate of his progress. He has a long way to go. Either follow Skyrim Revisited to a T down to the versions except for the mods like SkyUI that require new skse and such OR put in the newest versions and hope the instructions he provides in the guide.

As far as deviations from S.T.E.P. some examples would be Frostfall, Realistic Needs, etc

@ Neo:

Will savegames be from the current Pre-Release be compatible with SR-LE? Since you are revising everything, I thought backwards compatibility might be an issue...

I'm going to guess that it would be preferable to start a new game due to changes in mods, scripts, etc.
unfortunately, this is correct. i know it can be annoying to have to start a new character, but its better than your current savegame corrupting itself after youre level 50+ and have put in way more time. In short, you can either start over now, or start over later when (most likely) the save becomes unusable.

You may look into getting a set of clean of savegame files that you can use to help you out when needing to start over. There are quite a few of these save packs on the nexus - a compilation of save files that were made with various races and at various points of the game (after helgen, after first graybeard meeting, etc.), and all were done without any mods.  Or, if you dont trust anyone elses files, you can simply make your own set for you to use in the future. Basically dont install any mods until youre finished with the early parts of the game that you dont like repeating every time. Make a few good saves along the way, and youve got yourself a good resource to use in the future.

Depends on your choice of ENB or similar.

If you are just runing without anything but Skyrim, and no post processing etc. then you can run with 60 most of the time other then a few locations where FPS drops are just a fact even in the vanilla game. At least I can do that and my card is only slightly worse then the one you have.

Extra gameplay options that alter core vanilla gameplay. Here stuff like frostfall etc comes to mind.

Should I go ahead and try to follow v1 now or should I wait for SR:LE?

SR is more about learning how to make a complex mod list then about just following a guide and getting it all done. What you do now will most likely be useful when LE is finished.

Hey Neovalen i sent you a pm regarding SR/SR legendary but didn't even check to see if there were threads which was extremely careless of me. Anyway, I understand you are still working on the mod choices for your legendary edition and testing everything. However just curious if you have decided upon a lighting mod. You used RLO for skyrim revisited but you currently have ELfx in your new guide. So which do your prefer at the moment. Realistic Lighting Overhaul or Enhanced Lighting Fx? If you cant answer cause you are still testing that is fine.

As I said in the pm amazing work as usual and thanks for all your efforts!

I have been trying out the ELFX and Unreal ENB setup and it is great and all...but it is very "stylized," for lack of a better term.  I went back to RLO (with its plethora of patches) and RealVision ENB and it is SO much more to my tastes.  Much smoother too.  I realize that opinions on ENBs are as varied as opinions on who the most beautiful woman in the world is, but after playing with ELFX for quite a while and switching back to RLO, I am completely sold on RLO.  It is just so much more immersive and vanilla friendly to me, the lighting just seems to fit better.

I went over to ELFX after his update last month or so. The main punch line was that it had vastly superior window lighting.

Most noticeable place was the palace of the kings in windhelm. RLO had nothing coming into the building so it was effectively just too dark... even with the amount of torches.

With ELFX then there at least is enough light to make up for it. Although ELFX also has a few things I would do differently... like that spotlight in dragonsreach when you get in the door. Luckely ENB can fix those issues quite nicely, so it is of a minor concern.

Also when using ELFX without an ENB then I find it looks just a tad too yellow in the lighting... but again nothing ENB cannot fix.

Last the amount of patches are about the same..... the SOS ones especially... that things took me HOURS of work, but well worth it if you like sounds in interiors.

As for ENB then I remade my own from the ground up... will release it once ENB versions settle down again. Do not have the time to update/retest all the core features every other day. Also currently I went up to a 27" monitor with 2560x1440 so I had to make sacrifices in order to run at that resolution with 30 FPS avg.
