1. SSE is being released as a new game so mods will not be obsolete. They will still work on the original game. Some mods will transfer without any issues. Others will require some work by the authors.

2. STEP will not work on consoles due to some mods requiring SKSE and other tools. Console modding will be very basic.

I don't think you'll be able to use stuff like Skyrim Script Extender, Fores New idles in Skyrim, Dual Sheath Redux, or any mod that requires a patcher on console.

I have 246 Mods installed with STEP:extended at it's core. The game is absolutely beautiful. I can't imagine that SSE will look better. I'm curious if being 64 bit will make it run better/faster that the original game. Thoughts from those "in the know"?

Depends on your hardware. 64-bit will make the memory patches and stuff obsolete. However, it will also include some ENB-like effects that will be a hit on performance.

I suspect for most people it will be a wash, and perform about the same. But if you have a very new video card with >4GB VRAM and you are on Win 8/10, you may see a significant boost in performance.

Regardless of performance, however, I think the engine should be a lot more stable.

If you have FO4, then it's likely going to run very similar, if not the same, as that game. This is because the engine is likely to be very similar.

Bethesda ported Skyrim over to the upgraded Creation Kit (the one used to make FO4 or at least an earlier version of it) for testing purposes on the Xbox One dev kits they received from Microsoft (which is 64bit). So they had planned to release SSE for a long time ago after seeing it played on the Xbox One. This helps to hold us over until Elder Scrolls VI is released. (interview here)

Speaking of which (and not to get off topic here but...many people missed this info at E3), it's been confirmed that Elder Scrolls VI is planned. However, no details are known besides, whatever Bethesda has planned the "technology" doesn't exist yet. No one is really sure the meaning of how Tom used the word, "technology" (interviews here); however, some are speculating this could mean a completely new engine. No one really knows. It's also been confirmed that the work has not actually begone on Elder Scrolls VI by Pete. What this means is that the game is probably "many years from now ~Tom".

Apparently there are two big titles coming before Elder Scrolls VI and one could be a new world on the same level as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout worlds. Tom was cryptic but still let a few tidbits out.
