Question

Posted (edited)

As seen in the screen shots, my screen goes completely Grey with the exception of the  ancillary readers and lists.  The game play continues in the background.  I hear it all of the text and fighting (if any) but the cursor does not move the screen point of view (the compass does not move when I move the mouse).  As seen in screen shot 2, the keyboard is still active.  I can quit the game or even go in and load last save.  When I go in and load last save the Grey Screen goes away and normal game play resumes ..... until it goes grey again. If I hit ESC and try to go to maps it crashes.

The Grey screen is happening sooner and sooner.  At first it would happen after 45 or so minutes of game play now it is happening within 5 minutes.  I have no issues on any other game or video, it just happens when I play Skyrim.  It started about a month ago.  I have disabled all mods and it still seems to happen.  It does not happen when anything specific is happening.  It has gone grey when sneaking through a cave and also when fighting a dragon, I can not seem to find any trigger.

I use mod Organizer, but just recently switched to it from NMM because of this issue (I was hoping it could help, it did not).  Compared to many, I am not very mod heavy.

I am running Windows 10 (64 bit)

Intel i7-3770T CPU @ 2.50 GHz

Amd Radeon HD 7800 M Series Graphics card with 16.6.2 Crimson software.

That one looks better. I still recommend running SpINI.

Next thing to look at is ENBoost to make sure it's set up correctly. First, install the DirectX 9 Runtimes from June 2010 (I think). I'm on my phone or I'd just post you a link.

I have run spini before, but a little ignorantly (i'm learning quite a bit here so, thanks!)

The only path auto-detected by Spini is

Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\

but my normal ini file is in

common\skyrim\skyrim

Does that mean It did nothing the first time I used it?

It does not seem to be picking up my MO profile at all since it is not listed.  Should I just manually path to it?

Given my configuration, which preset should I use?

I've not used it in a while so I'll have to wait till I'm home to check. You could post in the spINI topic to see if DoubleYou can point you in the right direction in the meantime. https://forum.step-project.com/index.php?/topic/8987-Skyrim-Project-INI-(spINI)-by-DoubleYou

Thanks.

Is this the direct x you mentioned?

So In checking my ENBoost install I used this video as my directions.

The changes I made from my current setup as opposed to what the instructions call for are as follows.

In enblocal.ini

At 11:26 He talks about EnableEdgeAA=True but I noticed all his other settings "EnableTemporalAA and EnableSubPixelAA" were both set to False  Mine are set to True and I do not have "EnableTransparencyAA" at all.  Should I change "EnableTemporalAA and EnableSubPixelAA" to False and Add EnableTransparency?  Does it make any difference?

In MyDoc>Mygames>Skyrim

I had "iMaxAnisotropy=16" Changed to "iMaxAnisotropy=0"

Other than that everything is set up as directed.

When I start skyrim I get 2 messages.  The first Reads

"ENBSeries 0.305 for TES Skyrim

visit site for updates, users configs

and other modifications:

https://enbdev.com

Copyright © 2007-2016 Boris Vorontsov

current videoadapter: AMD Radeon HD 7800M Series"

The Second is in RED and reads

"PATCH SPEEDHACK ENBoost turned on in enblocal.ini, graphic modification disabled"

these are not new messages I have always gotten them.

I am still getting the folder Error in MO.  The memory error lists this path:

SKSE>Plugins

MemoryBlocksLog.log

hdtPhysicsEstensions.log

Update ....

So, a question.  Is it possible to continue an error in a game save even after the error has been fixed in programming?

After making all these changes I played from my last save and got the grey screen in 5 min.  When the Grey screen appeared I hit ESC and loaded a previous save ... a level or so ago.  I played for over an hour and had no grey screen.  Quests were updating normally but I still can't seem to mine.

Would it make any difference if I just started a whole new game?

I just took a look through your Skyrimprefs.ini, post 20,  and I noticed that the setting "iMaxAnisotropy" was set to 8, which equates to Anisotropic Filtering 0f 8 in the launcher settings. I believe that Anisotropic Filtering should be set to "Off (Best Performance)" when using an ENB as the ENB handles that.

I have always set both Anisotropic Filtering and Antialiasing to off when using ENB.

Set EnableEdgeAA=True. All the others should be false. Don't worry if you're missing parameters.

Ensure both iMaxAnisotropy=0 and iMultiSample=0 in your SkyrimPrefs.ini. To open this file in MO, click the puzzle icon and click on INI Editor. Click on the SkyrimPrefs.ini tab. Those settings will be under the [Display] heading.

Those messages are normal and nothing to worry about.

Ensure you have removed the SKSE folder from your 'Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\Scripts' folder (in the game directory, not from MO).

It's possible to happen, yes. Especially if the error is script related. If you're not very far into the game, you could start a new one to see if some of your issues are resolved.

Ok, so I made all the changes above and started a new game.  So far everything is working properly.  2 hours into the game it is updating quests, I am able to mine and no grey screen.  I was only lvl 26 in the last game so no big deal.

I verified that the SKSE folder has been deleted from the \Data\Scripts folder but I am still getting the folder error.  I did a search of the skyrim folder for "SKSE" and it is showing in the term in

Skyrim\Mod Organizer\mods

and

skyrim\src\skse

Is that correct?

You can delete the skyrim\src folder and everything that is in it. It's not needed. In MO, your SKSE mod should only have a "Scripts" and "SKSE" folder (like the screenshot I posted).

Glad the rest of it is working after starting a new game. You probably just had too much messed up in that save. Now that things have been straightened out a bit, hopefully you can game more happily!

I see in a later post you had set it to "0". I think if it is set to off in the launcher it will be set to "1'. I don't know if zero is considered an invalid number or not though or if it makes any difference.

Yup, Thanks for all your help!!!!

I deleted the src folder and Verified the SKSE folder is exactly like yours but I am still getting the folder error.

I noticed in MO when I log in the first thing in the notes section at the bottom are a list of errors (I think you can see the errors in one of the first pictures I posted).

Example:

QSslSocket: cannot resolve TLSv1_2_client_method

Could that have anything to do with it?

I see in a later post you had set it to "0". I think if it is set to off in the launcher it will be set to "1'. I don't know if zero is considered an invalid number or not though or if it makes any difference.

Thanks.  The launcher has it turned off I think but i'm not getting any errors on it so far.
