Textures to downsize to avoid 3gb CTD?
DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I'm not using AV but I'm going to try to change Trees HD from 4k to 2k. I'm sure that has a big part of it. Do you use Vurt's high-res pines? I tried using the 4k version but I'm going to try the default. Is the default 2k? or 1k? -
Textures to downsize to avoid 3gb CTD?

I'm positive. The only .ini tweak i did that STEP doesn't have is the waterreflectheight/width/whatever it was from 512 to 1024. -
Textures to downsize to avoid 3gb CTD?
DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
So I tried disabling all three texture packs. No crash. Max ram is 2.8. After I reinstall all three texture packs (still at 1k), I get a crash. RAM got up to 3.098 :-/. This only happens at falkreath. The texture packs aren't even adding that much ram. Something else has to be causing it. Do you think it's 4k tress HD or 4k high-res pines? -
Confused about S.T.E.P download

You should also learn how to use either Wrye Bash or Mod Organizer. You won't really be able to do it correctly without that. Don't use Nexus Mod Manager. -
Should be noted that borderless window does not let you use SLI/Crossfire. I remember it took me a while to figure that out last time, ha.Â

Ridiculously strange problem
DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Will do. If I spend $430 on a GPU, it better be 100%. Luckily I can time the RMA right during my vacation :-P. Thanks for your help guys. -

Sucks cause this card is only like 3 months old :-/. I'm surprised it's so screwed up already. I could tell it was crappy when I first got it though. -

When you say thermal stress, do you mean heat? The card never goes above 60 C while playing Skyrim. Â I still think the card is messed up though. I paid $440 for the vapor-x 7970 and could barely push 1150 on the core when others have gotten it up to like 1275 no problem on stock volts. I have been meaning to RMA it for a while but I'm waiting until my vacation so that I don't have to spend 2-3 weeks without a video card since I have no other backup right now. Â -
Textures to downsize to avoid 3gb CTD?
DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Ha, yea, sorry about that. I didn't realize this would happen with long titles. Anyway, I am pretty positive that it is due to memory issues because everytime I CTD, it goes above 3 gb memory. This happened in other areas too but after I got RAM usage below 3 gb by reducing texture size, the CTDs stopped. The Falkreath area is the only area that remains that pushes RAM usage up this high. Other areas that have in the past are outside Windhelm by the docks and Dragons Bridge. -
Question regarding using 1k textures instead of 2k
DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I'm just gonna go with the Mod Author's 1k versions in that case. I'll have to search online for a 1k version or SRO 1.6 I guess :-/. -
Textures to downsize to avoid 3gb CTD?
DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I don't think that'll work then cause my save is in falkreath at the moment so there are no ther cells to unload. It crashes like 2 min after I start playing. I tried loading the save outside and inside the main hall. -
Ridiculously strange problem
DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Yea. I'm going outta the country for 3 weeks at the end of next month so I am just going to send it in right before I leave so that it will be ready for me when I return. It's definitely a weaker card. Could barely get the overclock that others get with no problem and if I change the voltage even a little, then I get artifacts like crazy. -
Textures to downsize to avoid 3gb CTD?
DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
What have you done to downsize textures? Similar to what I've done? Or even more? And do you mean load my save, quit to the main menu, then reload it? -
Actually, the core team is still very well active - just behind the scenes, figuring out what to do next. One thing that's going to happen for sure is that Neovalen's Skyrim Revisited will be merged into STEP over time.I'm trying to understand exactly what Skyrim Revisited is. Is it just the same thing as step but every conflict is fixed manually? So it should work better than regular step?

Ridiculously strange problem
DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Can you clarify what you mean by "experiencing problems being able to test anything over 2gb on my current card after doing some recent testing?" Do you mean that the program has trouble testing a card that is over 2 gb vram?It never did do the tests when I went over 2GB. I allowed the program to switch to 640x480 display, but it returned to my native display immediately and the information window stated that the test failed. It must be incapable of going over 2gb then. It does seem like a very outdated program. I am going to try the MemtestCL. I'm guessing it's an OpenGL test and not DirectX? Based on my problem above, does it seem like my video card memory is corrupt? Or could it just be Skyrim doing something weird? I was going to RMA my GPU anyway since one of the fan bearings makes a grinding noise. My card was also incredibly terrible at overclocking so I wouldn't be surprised if the memory was failing. -
Question regarding using 1k textures instead of 2k

Do you think there will be any difference in texture size/RAM usage between the author's 1k versions and the downsized 1k versions? -

I'll have to find one then. What in the world was the argument even about? Hmm. -
Textures to downsize to avoid 3gb CTD?
DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Thanks. That would help me compare. Yea, I'm surprised I still get crashes as well. Travel to Falkreath and just run up to the nearby nordic ruins or something and let me know if you crash. -
Question regarding using 1k textures instead of 2k
DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Thank you. I am going to swap out my resized OT 1k versions for the author's 1k versions. I wish I had the 1k version of SRO. I only had a 2k version saved so I guess I have no other choice than to resize it to 1k via OT, right? Also, I wonder if the mod author's 1k versions will have any effect on RAM usage compared to the resized 1k versions that I'm using now. I thought SRO was removed because the mod author got banned or left the nexus and the author of texture pack combiner wouldn't remove it. -

Textures to downsize to avoid 3gb CTD?
DoYouEvenModBro posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
I am currently crashing around Falkreath with system RAM reaching 3.05gb or so I have done the following to eliminate the problem in other high-texture areas but obviously it wasn't enough 1.) Downloaded HD DLC Optimized (Hybrid 1024 + 2048) 2.) Downloaded Optional Vurt's 2k LOD 3.) Downloaded Vurt's 4k High-Res Pines instead of 8k version 4.) Resized big three texture packs (2k/Serious/SRO) in Optimizer Textures to 1k Everything else has been extreme step and have used the max resolutions available (GPU: 7970 3gb) What else do I need to do? I'm thinking the following could possibly work 1.) Eliminate the 4k High res pines and just use whatever the default is with Vurt's main Flora Overhaul file (using 1.179e) 2.) Use TreesHD High instead of Ultra Any other ideas? -
https://enbdev.com/patch_tesskyrim_antifreeze_v0096.htm Has anyone tried this? I just found out that this existed. It's supposed to help with: graphical bugs for both ATI and NVidia videocards. In most cases they are some kind of black fence or dots on the screen, flame from dragons breath and magical effects. Fixes BSODs of display driver. Decrease amount of freezes and stuttering. Additional features may be activated by changing enbpatch.ini parameters, for example fps limiter. Not sure which version of enb this works for, if any.Â

Question regarding using 1k textures instead of 2k
DoYouEvenModBro posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
My question is for the 3 main texture packs (2k/Serious/SRO) Which has BETTER quality? Downloading the mod author's 1k version instead of the 2k? OR Using DDSOPT/OT to resize the textures from 2k down to 1k -

DoYouEvenModBro replied to DoYouEvenModBro's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Why would it only happen in Skyrim? Also, my graphics card is only like 3 months old. Is it because Skyrim is the most memory intensive? Is there any sort of other stress test that can test GPU memory before I blame it on my card? It's possible that the graphical resources being used with your copy of Skyrim are pushing enough VRAM usage to hit bad VRAM. You can try Video Memory Stress Test to see if any errors get reported. Stress testers are not guaranteed to use all of the VRAM during the tests (much like CPU stress test, they are designed to push the limits of the chip, which causes overheating, which gives you an indication of whether it can handle the "stress"). How do I use this software? I burned the .iso image to a cd and tried to boot from it but it doesn't work and if I just run the .exe file, it only lets me use up to 1gb of my vram.
