" The DDSopt Recommended column was revised a few months ago in the STEP Mod Texture table to indicate which mods shouldn't be optimized, either because they were already optimized (e.g., Terrain Bump and Soul Gems Differ) or because optimization wouldn't actually help (e.g., Consistent Older People which has 256x256 uncompressed textures that are already good enough; if it is optimized the parameters need to be chosen carefully so it isn't converted to compressed textures)." Well would optimizing said textures with the correct settings hurt in any way other than just being redundant? I feel like it's more of a hassle to hand pick each and every mod that might not require optimizing rather than optimizing in batch with your .bat file and the step ddsopt settings for each folder created.
-
Is there any reason to not optimize everything? I thought the point of your batch files was to seperate the textures into how they should be optimized to prevent issues. Also at the bottom of the step ddsopt guide it says "All mods, even those which have No in all of the first 4 columns, gain benefits from DDSopt processing:". Which is why I used the batch file to optimize all my textures at once and I've had no issues.

True but Arthmoor makes both of those mods and I imagine he wouldn't ever add something to one of his other mods that was an inferior choice to his USKP stuff, but I could be wrong. Anyway I am really excited for 2.30 and manual TES5 editing like this would definitely be appreciated but the reasoning behind some of the edits would be appreciated even more so because that way modders can use that information to hopefully edit the inevitable other mods they use outside of STEP and be able to logically edit any updates to said STEP mods in between STEP updates.

@EssArrBee Hey so I read the pdf you linked and watched Gopher's videos on FNVEdit but I still don't understand why XLCW - Water Height was left out of Gilergreen Regrown. It seems like it shouldn't have been.

Thank you very much EssArrBee

Thanks a lot for this Nearox. However, could I ask how you learned to figure this stuff out? Opening up TES5Edit and applying the filter for cleaning shows me a bunch of red records and almost all of these are similar to the ones you and Neovalen show but how exactly do you know for sure if a red record needs correcting or not? And when to override rather than just drag? Also Neovalen missed a few so I imagine he decided that he didn't need to correct those. Edit: an example of this is Gildergreen Regrown. Under 0001A276 "XLCN - Location" I find "WhiterunLocation etc" in red under HearthFires.esm and blank spaces in Skyrim.esm and Gildergreen Regrown.esp. I can presume this means that Gildergreen uses records from Skyrim.esm and has not updated the XLCN - Location record to pass on the HearthFires information. This makes sense to me, but XCLW - Water Height however has "Default" for HearthFires.esm and two identical numbers for Skyrim.esm and Gildergreen Regrown. Why did you not decide to clean this one as well considering it seems to be the same issue?

Why Elder Scrolls Online fails to Deliver (for me)
Zerocloud411 replied to Uhuru's topic in General Game Discussion
I'm not surprised in the least because MMOs, pretty much since WoW got big, have not been made with any intention of longevity or substance (other than arguably GW2 to a degree) and are just big hype trains that always claim to be innovative and blabla and turn out to be more bland and juvenile in structure and gameplay than an rpg made in the 90s. Paul Sage made it clear that they have no real intention of pleasing hardcore TES fans...and that's only logical since they're in the minority. However, I think the problem stems more from Zenimax and the clear fact that even the main TES series has been getting dumbed down significantly. I imagine TES6 is going to absolutely require mods up the bum just to be playable for somebody who isn't a console casual. I also have always found it hilarious that constant outcry from fans for co-op capability has always been responded with "TES is meant to be a single player experience and adding multiplayer of any kind would no longer make it TES" and instead of adding a joinable friend like fable, they decide to make an MMO lmao. Hypocrisy at it's finest and I can only assume they said that to begin with because of the disgusting bad engine used since Morrowind. -
Since I use skse should both my "skse_loader.exe" and "TESV.exe" be added with these identical settings into two separate profiles?

Ah ok thanks for clearing that up. This is a really handy tool :D! -
Problem With The DDSopt Instructions

Yes I extracted the .bsa and DDSopt didn't change the file size at all so I left it alone. I was just wondering if errors in the batch file means that something is "wrong" or if it just indicates that said "The system cannot find the file specified." means that there are no files that would relate to that folder. -

Also I just used the batch file to organize the Space Core mod and this is what I found in the log.txt Does this just mean that I did something wrong or is this just a way of telling me that this mod has no types of textures other than "Ordinary Textures"? dn11- Just added some spoiler tags to make things look a little neater. -
Problem With The DDSopt Instructions
Zerocloud411 replied to Zerocloud411's question in DDSopt Support
Ok, also there are 43,776 files & 1,767 folders in the Vanilla Extracted DLC folders (after repair) and 43,747 files and 1,761 folders in the Vanilla Optimized DLC folders if that matters. STD & HRLDC folders are all equal. EDIT: The numbers are large because I have the non-texture files in both but the file/folder difference is only between textures. -
Problem With The DDSopt Instructions
Zerocloud411 replied to Zerocloud411's question in DDSopt Support
Alright thank you. I continued on and got 16 lines in the log file instead of the stated 17 in the instructions (the command line says I should have 16 though). Should I ignore this as well? Also is there any real reason to have the HRLDC seperated into 3 seperate archives at the end considering that they don't have any overlapping files? -
Hey, so I am on https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:DDSopt_%26_Texture_Overhauls#tab=DDSopt_Optimization under "Repair the Vanilla HRDLC Textures" and I manually extracted all the files by unpacking the .bsas with BSAopt. I got 77,116 files and 2,752 folders. However, after running 1_HRDLC_Clean-START.bat as admin with no errors, I ended up with 76,395 files and 2,735 folders instead of the 76,395 files and 2,721 folders stated in the instructions. I imagine this would throw off the rest of the instructions, so what do you suggest I do? Thanks.

Ok thanks I guess I'll just use the dxtx settings for most. When you say body textures do you mean player body or do stuff like the official space core mod fall into that category too?
