CTD entering Helgen Keep .. ENB only installed
DocHammoc posted a question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
I've had this trouble before and thought it was do to mods. Then I thought I fixed it with ENB memory patch. Now I "only" have enbseries 0.305 (wrapper version) installed (and SKSE and optimized/cleaned bethesda files) and ini settings. I read somewhere that setting fixparallaxbug in enblocal.ini to false (if it's not there add it) may be a fix. Others thought an older enb would be solution. Or it may be enb did not get installed/configured right (memory patch enabled, etc). I'll need to check that and do some experimenting. My specs: Core I7 3.2 Ghz Nvidia 680 2GB 3x30" monitors in surround (with lowered resolution of 4065x800) 6GB System RAM Windows 7 I have a long way to go to get fully modded skyrim ... this isn't a good omen. Any thoughts, anyone? -
For my second (or third) time down the rabbit hole with SRLE I want to make some proper choices ahead of time. I always seem to be bumping up against the playability threshold of 20 FPS after fully modded. I benchmark using FRAPS and AIDA64 the opening ride into Helgen. I currently have a core I7 (4 core) and Nvidia 680 (2 gig VRAM), and 6 gig system ram. And here is the kicker .. three 30" monitors in surround. At 8130x1600 (bezel corrected) I got 40 FPS baseline no mods. Before I had three 30" monitors I had two 20's and one 30 in PLP mode .. and could run 5372x1622 with SoftTH (never mind the weird bezel and pixel size corrected resolution). Here is a short list of my benchmarks ... 2560x1600, no mod base line ............... 60 FPS (limited by vsync) 2560x1600, STEP 2.2.9 ..................... 47 FPS 5372x1622, STEP 2.2.9 ..................... 16 FPS 5372x1622, no mod base line ............... 27 FPS (playable but only at average frame rates) 2686x811, no mod base line (1/4 pixels) ... 78 FPS (still filled three screens in PLP and looks great!) 3683x1112, no mod base line ............... 68 FPS (same number of pixels as 2560x1600) 3683x1112, STEP 2.2.9 ..................... 46 FPS (reasonable) 2686x811, SRLE ............................ 29 FPS (tolerable, barely .. stutters bad at times) 2686x811, SRLE (with DynDOLOD at Med)...... 30 FPS 8130x1600, no mod base line ............... 40 FPS (first benchmark in Nvidia Surround .. yeah!) 4065x800, no mod base line ................ 56 FPS (going to need plenty of headroom) I have VRAM usage too. Fully modded 1600 to over 1800mb (pretty much the max on a 2GB card). But the memory patch is doing it's job and not crashing anymore. Unmodded something like 1000 - 1300mb. Resolution is a factor but not as much as all the HD textures! So my task now is to predict what my performance will be and make some choices ahead of time so I don't have to backtrack too much. Ini Tweaks are easy enough but re-optimizing textures, etc seems to cause more trouble than it helps. I've had too many issues with textures flickering in and out, black landscapes and such. I can tolerate pretty low FPS .. as another factor is I'm updgrading to a six core CPU, 24 GB system memory and a nextgen video card (Pascal) when it comes out. I've combed the forum looking for performance and this is what I came up with ... * Try setting iMinGrassSize to 30 or 40 under [GRASS] in skyrim.ini * DynDOLOD - try lowering the object generation level. * If playing at high resolutions such as 1440p and above, consider dropping resolution to 1080p/1200p * Use performance version of Vividian ENB * install lower texture sizes where available * be sure to lower shadow quality to 2048 * set the fShadowDistance to 4000 * lower the shadow resolution to 1024 instead of 2048 * Don't look down from Dragonsreach on gildergleam * Do NOT stray from SRLE mods * Use DDSopt to cap all textures at 1k and .5 normals * Use Vanilla Reduced Textures http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14504/? * Use Bethesda Performance textures http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/43921/? and http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/42360/? * Don't use ENB (causes stretching of parallax enabled meshes) * Don't use parallax mods * If you have trouble with SMIM chandelier and ELFX install patch http://www.nexusmods...?id=58061&pUp=1 * Try using sheson's memory patch (already done if follow SKSE.ini tweaks) Not everything seems like something I want to try. Any feedback constructive or otherwise is welcome!

Will a switch to a 34" monitor destroy my VRAM?
DocHammoc replied to NordPride_WorldWide's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
I've had pretty good success considering. Performance is the issue which leads to instability. That's to be expected and I won't give up. It just looks too good! Smaller 3 monitor setups (say 1080 or even 1440 vertical) would be "no problem" ... and I I hope with an even beefier vid card I will manage. Anyway .. wish me luck! -
Will a switch to a 34" monitor destroy my VRAM?
DocHammoc replied to NordPride_WorldWide's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
I've been away for many months and now caught the bug to start in again .. (start over). Past experience with SR:LE has been mixed. Perhaps because I was running three monitors in PLP mode (portrait, landscape, portrait), (1200x1600, 2560x1600, 1200x1600) with SoftTH software. I finally had to lower resolution to get it to run (from 5372x1622 to 3683x1112 .. odd sizes to compensate for different monitor dpi). After countless hours (testing after every few mods) I was done. Finally I could play. At least I thought. Something got corrupted during last few mod installs making game unplayable! Anyway, now I have three 2560x1600 monitors running in Surround (single Nvidia 680 2g card). I plan to upgrade to "Pascal" , nvidias next gen GPU when it comes out but for now I'll need to make do. I suspect I'll have less trouble without SoftTH .. but also suspect I'll need to lower resolution. I did a quick test with basic game at 8130x1600 (!) And it's amazing, and runs at acceptable FPS. I plan to run at 4065x800 (or 3/4 pixels as one 2560x1600 monitor) ... So, anyone have any thoughts (besides I'm nuts) before I dive in again? -
racemenu goes dark .. world is dark then CTD
DocHammoc replied to DocHammoc's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
Based on the guide (thanks a zillion!) I set ExpandSystemMemoryX64=false ReservedMemorySizeMb=128 VideoMemorySizeMb=3926 Time will tell if it helps. -
racemenu goes dark .. world is dark then CTD
DocHammoc replied to DocHammoc's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
I'm back. Can't stay away forever :-). I started over installing SRLE updating as I went. I of course am testing as i go also. My test is to always start a new game, play with racemenu then alternate start "Came by ship .. Solitude". (It's the first on the Alt Start menu). Then I run around trying things. If it fails I try the same steps to see if I can make it fail again. So with only half the mods loaded (no dynamic patches yet) I can usually get the game to fail usually within and hour and usually with black textures. I was able to consistently get it to fail on "showracemenu" but now it's less frequent. I checked that the SKSE memory patch was working with "memory blocks log". I also verified ENBBoost ini tweaks installed (as part of Vividian ENB). enblocal.ini (just changes listed) And of course bFloatPointRenderTarget=1 .. but I use the Ini Tweak feature in MO for this .. kind of nice but hard to tell if it's working sometimes. I also have INI Tweaks for all the other SRLE recommended skyrim and skyrimpref values. Notice the PROXY settings in enblocal.ini . This is for SoftTH since I have three monitors (of unequal resolution). I'm running Win7-64bit, ASUS Extreme II - X58 (12 GB system ram) and an Nividia 680 gpu (2GB vram). I've scaled the resolution back (in SoftTH settings) to 1/4 native pixels .. just 2686x811 (with bezel compensation). I've wondered about and experimented some with the ReservedMemorySizeMb and VideoMemorySizeMb in enblocal. I've read that you can set VideoMemorySizeMb to size of "system ram" for example. I'm monitoring VRAM usage and FPS (with FRAPS, AIDA64 Extreme, and a Logitech G19 LCD keyboard) and can see VRAM Dedicated+Dynamic is hitting near the max 2k MB and GPU Usage 99% .. but averaging around 30 FPS. Really suspicious of memory related issues but not sure how to verify further or what to try next! -
racemenu goes dark .. world is dark then CTD
DocHammoc replied to DocHammoc's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
I'm running triple monitors with SoftTH which adds some challenge. I have a 2GB 680 EVGA Hydro Copper which is a bit light on memory for this. I've had to reduce resolution from 5372x1622 to 2686x811 (with bezel compensation). I get about 30 fps. Memory patch and ENBoost is working last time I checked. I'll double check. I've also reduced DynDOLOD to medium. I was able to follow the guide without issues through 4.7 People and seemed to work okay the bit I tested. It's only the final push till the end that I started having issues .. after i was all done. Frustrating! I'll have to disable plugins from bottom up and see if I can get problem to go away. Or start disabling installed mods in same manner till I get back a stable game. Tedious but I've come this far ... BTW: It's not *all* textures that go "dark". Just most of them. The eyes are probably okay as is some of the world. The rest of the character is dark. Also smoke and fog become large floating "dark blocks" .. like texture is gone. Not sure what would cause this but suspect something late in SRLE and significant like Frostfall conflict or dynamic like Real Shelter. -
racemenu goes dark .. world is dark then CTD
DocHammoc posted a question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
I completed SRLE to the letter testing every so often quite successfully .. until the last push to complete, circle back and get updates, config, etc. I had trouble with ENB and also DynDOLOD but fixed both by carefully reinstall and recreate dynamic patches, etc. Now in Racemenu (usually when I start changing Skin Tone slider) the game goes "dark". Exiting to the main menu or using the bed does not revert back. Things get worse in a hurry and game CTD. Restarting the game *does* fix the game but only for a short while. Any ideas? *edit* I tried "skipping" the racemenu and using the bed directly. Seems to be okay. I configured all of MCM okay and then showracemenu. Again "darkness" ... Also happens at random (within 30 minutes) followed by CTD. -
Random CTDs and Sudden FPS drops
DocHammoc replied to Barachiel's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
Dude .. its not your PC you can be sure of that. You are lucky to have it so smooth 50+ fps. I'm happy with 30 and am not getting that right now. (I'm running triple wide monitors and will like need to lower resolution). I'm getting CTD's as well and strange issues which I hope I can fix or learn to live with. I think in any heavy modded game you need to be tolerant .. blah. I would work at getting BOSS to work. Must be a solution. Here is my mod list (using BOSS in MO but listeed with Wryre). Game Colors Washe Out .. too bright
DocHammoc replied to DocHammoc's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
Yes, except game looks "white" when Effects are *Enabled* .. so Vanilla is what looks better at the moment. Something is installed or configured wrong with ENB 7 Beta 3. I suppose I could go back to version 6 if I cant figure it out. I uploaded a pict but not sure how to link to it ... [File:Enb_2015_05_07_01_09_20_96.png] -

Yeah, except it looked bad with Effects enabled, good disabled. I expect have 7 Beta3 installed wrong or missing some drastic setting. Worse case I can try reverting back to version 6 [[File:Enb_2015_05_07_01_09_20_96.png|200px|thumb|left|Helgen ENB problem]] -

I solved it. Shift-F12 does something to turn off/on ENB (I think). Looks much better after toggling!!! -
Game Colors Washe Out .. too bright
DocHammoc posted a question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
Hello, I've been following the guide now for months and have been running game between sections with great success. I just completed the last few sections and also went back and updated, removed, added mods changed since I started. Now the game looks horrible! Interiors and out are bright and washed out. Not playable. I assume this is ENB related or possibly DynDOLOD related. Removing the later did not change anything and removing the former crashed the game (I didn't rebuild dynamic patches which is likely why). Thoughts? Anything to speed up my troubleshooting would be great. -
Tip for viewing virtual directories and modded INI files.
DocHammoc posted a question in Mod Organizer Support
I had a great idea! Too bad it didn't work. Can someone explain why or have other thoughts? So I want to view the directory structure and ini files the games sees when it runs with explorer.exe and notepad.exe. So why not add explorer.exe as an MO tool! I should be able then browse the folder structure as TESV.exe sees it (edit files, etc from apps launched from the explorer.exe ..) Not quite. Explorer.exe did not seem to work. However notepad.exe and cmd.exe did! That is you can launch cmd.exe from in MO and cd to ..\skyrim\data and view virtual folder and files! Similarly you can call notepad.exe with argument to "..\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\skyrim.ini" and see changes made. HOWEVER: Only changes made from profiles are seen, not INI Tweaks from mods. So the skyrim.ini file from "..\Documents\My Games\Skyrim" will be "copied" to "..\Documents\My Games\Skyrim" but INI Tweak from mods my "custom INI tweak" mod is not applied. I think the tweak does get applied when running TESV.exe however as I can see affect of it in game .. but more testing is needed. Anyone comments appreciated. -
Ok. So I can make skse work per instructions here: https://wiki.step-project.com/Skyrim_Script_Extender#Recommendations Run the SKSE through MO and check the skse_steam_loader.log (in your ..\My Games\Skyrim\SKSE folder) and can see default heap = 768MB (effective 512MB if not preloading animations) scrap heap = 256MB Take the lines out of skse.ini and the above log lines do not appear. When I create an INI Tweak to do this I can't get it to work. Anyone try this? I used INI Tweaks in Wyre Bash a lot. I know MO implements them different and I have had success with skyrim.ini / skyrimprefs.ini but not skse.ini. Is this because skse is in a subfolder of the data directory and not in the skyrim folder and not ..\My Games\Skyrim ??? Anyone experiment with INI Tweaks??? Tannin?

It seems if you have several mods with INI Tweaks to the same setting, the highest priority mod should be the final setting. I found in testing this is not the case... in 1.2.14 of MO. To test I created four mods by creating four folders ../mods/New Video/Video ../mods/Custom ini Tweaks/INI Tweaks ../mods/NVID Tweak/INI Tweaks ../mods/AMD Tweak/INI Tweaks In the Video folder I put two new BIK files can be found here AMD: https://www.mediafire.com/?x0r8s3atk2r10vx Nvidia: https://www.mediafire.com/?q2zd8as587oy2q5 The Custom ini Tweaks/INI Tweaks a file with this in it .. [General] sIntroSequence= ;Disables the intro sequence for a faster startup The NVID ... [General] sIntroSequence=nvidia.bik The AMD ... [General] sIntroSequence=logo_amd_hd.bik I then Installed and Enabled each mod and tweak. I could then run the program and see which vid played. I could disable or reorder mods and hope to get expected results. I did not. Questions: - Is this a bug? - How are IN Tweaks prioritized between mods? - If same mod has more than one tweak to setting then what takes precedence? (This could happen if you have a Custom Ini Tweaks mod with one tweak for STEP containing many settings, and other tweaks from other sites) Thanks in advance.
-
Did some testing. Any installed and enabled tweak in ../mods/../INI Tweaks will overwrite setting in ../profiles/../skyrim.ini (or I assume skyrimprefs.ini or any other ini file .. but untested) However if multiple mods tweak the same setting you might expect the highest "priority" mod to replace the setting. This does not happen in version v1.2.14 of MO. I could disable or reorder mods and hope to get expected results. I did not.
