I have gone through the mod setup process a dozen or more times, using only step core, step extended, my own list, testing on purely vanilla, and ect. I have documented this process in numerous posts throughout these forums. This isn't the first time I claimed skyrim isn't stable, and I met as much resistance then as I am now (ironic because this thread claims to solve problems I swear people on this forum have told me don't exist). There are problems with the game, and its relevant to discuss them in a thread which claims to solve those problems. If someone comes to this thread and says it works great, all smiles and nobody asks any questions. Maybe it should be the other way around. My personal opinion, the most recent skyrim updates (which were focused on improving performance on console) broke something in the PC version. The lipsync bug was introduced in patch 1.9, and many people reported problems with ILS and CTDs that didn't exist before after it went live. The open citires project shut down because the author couldn't get it to work after patch 1.9. Numerous evidence and anecdotal stories to support the claim that multiple memory problems exist in skyrim. If a mod claims to solve those memory problems it needs to prove it. If someone claims that it works for them it great they report it. Equally so if someone claims it doesn't work for them its just as relevant. The burden of proof lies on the side that says it works not on me or anyone else who say it doesn't.

I don't need help. Not trying to sound arrogant, but I don't believe there is a problem with my setup, there is a problem with the game. That is the point I am trying to make here. Be cautious with new tools. There is no proof this work. It does something, but does it actually help anything? I don't personally think so. Take a closer look at it and be more honest about the effects you notice in game. If the tool does great things further scrutiny will only verify that.
-
I haven't been given advice. I am not asking for help, I don't need it. If there is something off about my mod setup tell me what is off then be specific. That is called constructive criticism. You are putting up a road block here, you are not furthering the conversation just trying to undermine everything I say, and at this point without justification. If you want to believe the tool works for everybody all the time and its my fault I am having problems, you can do that, but don't pollute the thread with it. It doesn't belong in an intelligent conversation. The level of proof for this tool is not there. It didn't exist a week ago, and now its the greatest thing sense sliced bread. The only "proof" people provided is testimonial, anecdotal, observations that it worked for THEM. It didn't do anything for ME. That is the only claim I am trying to make. I am open for a debate on it but there has to be some point to it, not just some arbitrary and off hand "you didn't do enough to convince me" sort of statement that doesn't do any good for anybody.

Z, read my above posts. I know its hard to find, being at the top of this page. It has every last bit of information you want. Your skepticism is bordering on denial. And also, your being exceptionally rude here. Jumping through an awefully lot of hoops to prove (and why do I have to prove it?) that it isn't working for me. If you don't like my mod setup, tell me why, and give me reason why it could explain what I am reporting. Or stay out of the conversation if you have nothing to add. For ****s sake, this happens every time I talk about stability on these forums, its beyond ridiculous at this point.

I got the one from the SR:LE and went on a speed run with mult 300. I crashed outside of solitude, in a spot I would often crash when I tested this way. EDIT: I managed to get "Skyrim Memory Patch 3.0 by Sheson Active. MemBlock1 = 512MB, MemBlock2 = 256MB." in my skse_steam_loader located in documents/mygame/skyrim/skse. You need this in your skse.ini [Memory] Enable=1 MemBlock1=512 MemBlock2=256 Neovalens version is different from sheson's.
-
I switched to the patch included in this thread. Here is the SKSE.ini I included in this upload (path is me/steam/steamapps/common/skyrim/data/SKSE). Screenshot of VMMAP and task manager. The game minimized itself, a sound was played on loop (this case it was electric spell cast sound) and the game froze. Really odd. I was walking on the road from riverwood to whiterun casting magic at the ground as I did, with the goal of adding just a bit more strain on the system with the shock burn decals. I was only doing it for a minute or two when the game froze (but not crashed). It was a reload of the fresh game I made before, same mod list, not quite a new game wanted to save time on the opening sequence (which never crashes for me). SKSE.ini [Memory] Enable=1 MemBlock1=512 MemBlock2=256
-
I did. It wasn't seeing the proper allocation of memory with it, so I switched to the one I am using. Sheson himself sent it to me and compiled it before hand, I have to assume that if any version works correctly it is this one. I uploaded it here. https://www.mediafire.com/?gxgfgik20rhg3y9

I am still getting crashes in skyrim using this mod. This utility may fix some problems in the game (or it may not, idk). It doesn't fix all of them. I think its important to point that out because if you stop looking for solutions you won't find them. Before I begin, I want to include my skse load order, my enblocal ini, and my skyrimprefs and skyrim ini files, as references. https://www.mediafire.com/?zg1e44h2bn90kl4 I have the latest graphics drivers installed, which at this time is catalyst version 13.12. I am using windows 7 64bit, completely up to date and a legitimate home premium license, legitimate and up to date version of skyrim, mod oraganizer, my load list was sorted through BOSS, and ect. I have recently stressed tested my processor and main memory with a blend test of prime95 64bit for 8 1/2 hours and a furmark burn in test for my graphics. I have run HD tune on all sectors of my ssd drives as well. My system is very stable, and main memory, graphics, and processor are all running at default clock speeds and voltages ie no overclocking. My graphics card is an HD 7870 with 2gb VRAM and my processor is a llano A8 3870 quad core clocked at 2.9ghz. I am using a combination of texture packs with some deviation from STEP. I used 1k textures for sky and terrain, 2k textures for everything else, the occasional 4k texture that is a part of the the standard silence weapons pack and bellyaches HD dragons packs. I am using a verison of skse loader sent to me by sheson in a PM some weeks ago, and I have confirmed with VMMAP that it is working as intended. I also have ENBboost installed and working correctly, without ENB, and I have the cell stabilizer installed. These are my only skse plugins. The following is the contents of my loadorder.text provided by mod organizer: # This file was automatically generated by Mod Organizer. Skyrim.esm Update.esm Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp Dawnguard.esm Unofficial Dawnguard Patch.esp HearthFires.esm Unofficial Hearthfire Patch.esp Dragonborn.esm Unofficial Dragonborn Patch.esp Falskaar.esm HighResTexturePack01.esp HighResTexturePack02.esp HighResTexturePack03.esp Unofficial High Resolution Patch.esp StaticMeshImprovementMod.esp StaticMeshImprovementMod-DragonbornTernFix.esp StaticMeshImprovementMod-FurnitureChestSnowFix.esp PilgrimsDelight.esp Radiant and Unique Potions and Poisons v2.0 non glow.esp Book Covers Skyrim.esp Book Covers Dawnguard.esp Book Covers Hearthfire.esp Book Covers Dragonborn.esp Distant DetailHF.esp FalskaarDawnguard.esp GloriousGrass.esp SkyFalls Plus SkyMills - All DLC and Falskaar.esp Unique Grasses.esp Beards.esp Brows.esp Only the files associated with these mods have been installed by MO, and not others. Ie all esps are enabled. I only happened to have the version of skyfalls and mills that requires falskaar so falskaar is likewise installed. I was able to produce a CTD with a new game in 43 minutes. I did not enter any console codes. None of the mods included have any scripts associated with them, and very few have cell edits (the exception being the unnofficial patches and falskaar). I completed the opening sequence, cleared out embershard mine, made some potions, sold some stuff, then walked to whiterun, and it crashed right as I was entering the gate, in the transition from an exterior cell to an interior world cell. I have also noticed that the game will crash almost every time if you equip a torch. Going to report that to the USKP team and see what they say about it. I have said this before in previous posts but I will iterate it again, I have used sheson version of the skse loader on my own save game for some time. There are confounding variables in that particular save, in particular I was using safety load in conjunction with it and a much longer mods list. However, I would experience fequent in regular crashes. Using only STEP core and STEP extended mods from the 2.2.7 wiki I have experience regular and frequent crashes, although I haven't tested this with this utlity or similar utilities installed. I know my conclusions are really inconvenient, and its probably easier to pretend that I am not posting. There may be problems very specific to my set up, but if they are they must be related to drivers or chipset or something similar, they aren't a symptom of faulty hardware, erroneous installation, or absence of appropriate tools. That means if I am having problems, no doubt other people will be having problems too. Take from that what you will.

I looked into it a bit more and the version of the dll I had grabbed from this thread wasn't working for me. I reinstalled skse and used the one sheson sent me and VMMAP confirmed the expanded sectors. I had been using that same dll for a week before and had all kinds of crashes, but when I tried it today it felt like, at least, that the game was working better. I ran about for a while and didn't have any problems, and then I loaded up the game with ugrids 9 for a speed run. I got from whiterun to markarth by foot without a crashed, and then the game CTD as I entered the city. Not sure what to make of that. I did notice some interesting behavior. It felt like, after the initial exterior scene had been loaded, the game played more smoothly and less gittery as I continued to travel in exterior cells. Hard to set a baseline for "feels smoother" though. I noticed at times the game would appear to freeze, everything would stop and the audio would cut out, and then the game would resume again. I found that interesting because I hadn't seen that before. For those asking me, I up tell this point I have tested all my hardware thoroughly, reinstalled windows, acquired a new gaphics card, reinstalled skyrim from scratch at least a dozen times, and yes I am using mod organizer. ENB boost installed and working correctly in addition to cell stabilizer, ect ect ect. Very certain any issues I have been having with skyrim have nothing to do with my setup nor my hardware. At least with VMMAP I can confirm it is working as intended so i will play more. I don't know what I could have changed between now and then but maybe something will be different this time.
-
Well I would like to find out I missed something in the installation. You just drag and drop the dll into the skryim directory though... is there more to it? Want to caution against taking the attitude of "if it doesn't work for you it must be your fault". Its a new utility. Give it time to vet before making it gospel.
-
When i alt tabbed to take the screenshot the game didn't seem to like that, and I had to restart me PC in order to get my destkop back. Probably not a good thing. no crash dump to share. Not terribly familiar with this utility, but based on what I do know, seems pretty normal. You tell me.
-
There are problems with the game, not problems with my system. I put some 200 hours into a save on patch 1.6, and probably crashed a dozen or so times in that entire playthrough, using earlier version of nearly all the same mods I am using now. Sense I have tried playing on patch 1.9, its has been a crap shoot, and trying to diagnose any issues is a black hole. I have heard others mirror more or less the same sentiment. IMO bethesda broke the PC version of the game, no two ways about it.
-
I started a new game though after removing safety load and still managed to get a crash in a relatively short time. Hard to blame safety load for that. Honestly with all the "memory fixes" I have tried the stability of the game seems to remain pretty much constant for me. No change.
-
I have tried this mod a couple times and I can't seem to notice any difference. Sheshon PMed me a couple weeks ago and I tried his version of the skse loader, and I couldn't really notice any difference. I was using ENB boost, cell stabilizer, safety loader and the skse loader and I would still get crashes pretty frequently, as I progressed further into the game they became more and more regular to the point that I couldn't stand to play anymore. I removed safety load and installed neovalens version of the skse loader and tried again on my old save. I probably played about 20 minutes before crashing on the main road to whiterun from riverwood. I started a new brand new save game and played on that, and go maybe an hour into it before having a random crash while accessing my favorites menu. I have a fair number of mods installed, but none of them are far out of the ordinary and there doesn't seem to be a connection between the crashes I experience. I had the standard 5 ugrids. Most of my mods and ini edits followed the step guide and I am using a combination of mostly 2k/1k textures. I was using sheshons version of the dll for about a week before I removed it from my game. I would say for me the mod has had no perceptible effect. Shame too. The complete lack of any stability in a modded game of skyrim has made it literally unplayable for me, I had high hopes this might do the trick for me :/.

Virtually all modern PSU will have at least two rails. There are several reasons for this; the first is a safety mandate imposed by intel (I think?) years ago to protect the processor and socket of the motherboard. If a rail shorts out it can only shoot as much power as their are amps on that rail, thereby reducing the likelihood and the severatiy of PSU failure. Also, a rail with a smaller amperage is easier to control and regulate. Quality PSU might have 3 or 4 rails on them, especially higher wattage ones, and it is for that reason. When you are using a PSU, it is usually pretty easy to tell which cords are on one rails as compared to another. A cord which has 2 6 pin graphics connectors has both 6 pins on the same rail, while a graphics coonnector on another cord would likely correspond to a different rail. You will notice that most of the molex and sata connectors are all on one cord as well, because they all use 5v power which is on another rail. A singe rail PSU is not necessarily better or worse than a PSU with more than one rail in terms of quality and power output. It should also be noted that the amperage advertised on each rail is the maximum power output on that rail, and it might be the case that if you add up all the amperage and multiply by the corresponding voltage you get a number much higher than the advertised output for the PSU. Most of the time a maximum 12v wattage output will be listed below the amperage for each rail on the unit. If you are using a more than two high powered graphics card or a couple of processors then you should probably just pay more and get something with a higher advertised power output. For nearly all enthusiasts, especially if you are only using a single processor and graphics card, any old 50$ PSU advertised at 500 watts or more with at least bronze level efficiency will likely serve you just fine. Like many other parts, reliability and build quality is most important. Many enthusiasts feel they need a high wattage power supply, and it certainly better to get to much than not enough, but often you can easily get away with a 400 watt unit with a couple of graphics card so long as its a quality unit. I know of several people who have done just that.Â

The only thing you have to worry about with power supplies is how the amperage on the 12v rails. In reality, a high end desktop computer, even if you add a second graphics cards and overclock a bit, is pushing no more than 250-350 watts total. The power suggestions for CPU and graphic cards do not stack up and are overly generous. The problem is you have to factor in a couple things. The first is that nearly all of that 200+ wattage is 12v power, so if you have 150 watts in the 5v and 3v rails that isn't going to help you much. Secondly power supplies perform at peak efficiency at about 50% output and fall off as you tax them. Now a reputable brand like thermatlake will give you every watt it claims and then probably then some, but a lot of that gets lost as heat. You can rely on a bronze certified or higher power supply to give you at least 80% efficiency at nominal load, but it might dip a touch below that at very high levels of output. Armed with that knoweledge, a simple forumla is a good guide line. Add up the CPU and graphics wattage, add about 30 watts and multiply by 1.2. Divide this answer by 12. This is the combined power output you are going to need on all 12v rails. One last consideration, if you are have two high end graphics on one rail and only the CPU on another you could fall short on the more taxed rail. So maybe its not so simple. Anyway, a good 550+ watt power supply is more than edquate for all the most extreme setups, even if a mild overclock. Thermaltake is a fine brand. Middle of the pack when it comes to performance parts, but it should work just fine.

DROPPED aMidianBorn Farmhouse (by CaBaL)
mothergoose729 replied to DoYouEvenModBro's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I like this mod a lot and would use it, it if I weren't such a fanboy over annins HQ towns and village. -
Geez, you can get a full zz top growth going their. Looks really cool, only concern might be that the texture doesn't match up exactly with HD beards. Its only for the player character though right?
-
You would probably be a big fan of requiem then. I would give that a go. I stand by SkyRe, which probably has something close to a "semi static scalling" also. Depending on how hardcore you are. With SkyRe I do get the sense that my character is growing in the world not with it, and after about 50 or so hours of gameplay you do get to the point where you roll over most stuff but do find the rare challenge or can still die if you get reckless. So in short, try one of the more popular overhaul mods.

SKYRIMLE Skyrim Realistic Texture Overhaul - Mountains
mothergoose729 replied to Sakedo's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Mountain textures in skyrim actually work the best when the author doesn't try and do very much. The problem is that every mountain range in skyrim should probably get a unique texture, and instead they get one, which looks fine in some places, and looks terrible in others. I find that more the texture tries to do the more it doesn't seem to fit in most places. My biggest gripe with this mod is there seems to be a light indigo in the texture that seems a touch odd. Certainly deviates quite a bit from skryim and doesn't seem to make sense in the landscape. -
I have looked at most of the skin and body mods out there, and overall I find that XCE is just the best. The skin textures for men are all really terrible. There are some really nice ones for females, but they all tend to make woman look too pretty and unnatural looking, and at best only look a little better than XCE does anyway. I have found that UNP with EEO makes elven females look much more dainty and elfy, but it doesn't much suit the human female characters and I find breasts and ******'s in my game really distracting. I searched for a quite a bit and tried out a few different mods, and eventually found that XCE gives the best balance overall. For the vanilla bodies its pretty much the only mod out there. If you are willing to try other body mods than UNP in particular has a lot of good options, but I still prefer XCE over all of them.

skyrim aMidianborn Imperial Forts (by CaBaL)
mothergoose729 replied to lubojart's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
This is vastly superior to SRO forts. SRO is really good for some thing, but architecture is not one of them. For whatever reason there is a lacking in imperial forts rextextures on the nexus, so this easily takes its place as the best one out there. There are some flaws in it, at least as I have used it. Namely it gets rid of moss, which is an artistic choice cabal has made, and the distant LOD doesn't quite match up with the rextexture just yet, although he expressed some interest in fixing that. The tiling is great though, the exterior brick texture and normal maps are all really clean and very detailed, but not busy. Its just another great work from cabal. edit: Cabal has a version with moss on there now and rounded stones that match the default LOD. Its ready for STEP at any time IMO. -
SKYRIMLE Warburgs Detailed Paper World Map (by Warburg)
mothergoose729 replied to Besidilo's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
can't play without the compass completely unfortunately. Some of the quest descriptions even if you use WilliamIm's mod just don't hack it, and I also have the "completionist" but where I have to visit every think in skyrim, and a compass helps with that too. The paper map is a huge boon for immersion though. Just wish something could be done to make it flat :/ -
If you are primarily gaming it doesn't make sense to get a high end monitor. Any decent TN panel is going to look the same with games. If you don't believe me, go down to your frys and check out the dirt 3 they have on their test machines. There is no difference between a plasma screen or a cheap TN panel when you are gaming on skyrim, there just isn't. For the price of a decent IPS panel, you can get two nice TN panels, and IMO get more use and utility out of them anyway. That is what I recommend actually, a pair of 22inch TN panels would do quite nicely. For professional media work, IPS panels are where it is at. There is a difference between IPS panels. There are better deals to be had, but the high end dell monitors, and the apple panels are really nice, and often very high resolution. They are actually worse for gaming though because they typically have lower refresh rates and response times, so you won't get as clear an image in motion. If you want something that is a great picture and great with all kinds of media it might make sense to just by an HD television. You can get a really nice 42 inch LED TV for about 500$, which is what you would pay for an IPS panel anyway, and it will have a higher response time and great colors too. As for the computer case, I cannot more highly recommend the RC690 2. Better airflow, better aesthetic (IMO), bottom mounted PSU, great cable management, entirely tooles, the best case I have ever owned by far. I am not sure on the USB 3.0 front ports, but that seems like small potatoes overall. The only con for that case is the front mounted fan has an LED on it (IMO). You can take out the fan or cut the LED cable if you don't like the bling. Everything else looks fine, gl with your build.

I will weight in. I have been trying fruitlessly to get good stability with my game for a while. I think I have pin pointed the problem with my game to memory errors in the skyrim engine. Its a simple problem really, the more I add to the game, the more likely the game will crash, regardless of what kind of content it is. Without ENB boost or safety load I would experience missing textures in scenes when the texture for the object did exist (including occasional black faces), frequent crashes particurily when moving between cells and most particular when moving between interior cells and exterior cells, and just random crashes that make little sense at all as well. They came about every 15-30 minutes. I installed ENB boost and it improved my stability pretty significantly, so that I would could reliably go about half an hour between crashes. I installed safety load on top of ENB boost and my crashes have nearly completly ended when moving between cells. I have playing for a few hours I had a couple random crashes and one CTD when I loaded a new save. I could travel about on foot long distances inbetween cells without the ctds that constatly plagued my game, and without any missing texture issues. I did notice some menu crashes that seemed to be more frequent with the mod installed. In particular, I crashes in the smithing crafting menu, then loaded that save again, and crashed in the same menu. Curiously enough, I did some other things in the game on my second reload, and then came back to the smithing menus and didn't crash. In my experience you get a trade off. If you can play for hours without issues than I don't think you need safety load. For me, I found that playing without it is nearly impossible. The flaws in it are more than worth it for me.
