GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback
oqhansoloqo replied to EssArrBee's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
So I went to Drumber to ask him directly. Here is what he said in reply to basically the same thing I asked above about missing female lobotomites and some other female playable race options either having pink/magenta face textures or being repeated multiple times: "There are less female textures than male ones, it doesn't really effect anything other than Females having the same textures as other races e.g. for Lobotomites and some other things. It won't effect any NPC's, you will just get duplicates in the racemenu, especially when using the playable races esp. When/if I come back to this mod I'll do female Lobotomites and others and even it out a bit. I probably will come back to it though, as my new brow textures may actually get a release soon then I'll update this with them also." The most important thing I get out of it is that the repeat or missing texture playable race options do not affect NPCs. -

I don't know how your female lobotomite in the character creator can be all good, unless you downloaded a different version of FCO than I did or unless my copy got corrupted. I have 2.3.1 and the 2 patches which bring it to 2.3.2. The patch files don't include any texture files in them - only the main file. So I went through the main file (pre-installation) and into the "Main\textures\characters\drumber\female\" folder. It doesn't even include female textures for Lobotomites or for Daniel Wyand. I think I know why a bunch of the female faces look like duplicates in the character creation race selector too - because the number of female ghoul face textures (for example) is only 1. Males have 6 textures in the archive and 6 options in-game. I guess it just duplicates the same selection of options for a female character as the male, but can't find 6 separate textures and so it duplicates the single 1 available 5 more times to give the same number of options as males have (which is 6). If that is actually what's going on then this must be messed up for everyone. Can you check your installation again? - the character creation screen, because if yours is showing all of the textures then something else must be at play here. -

Unless someone here has a good idea exactly which mod it might be... I would say go and disable all of the "NPC/Player Bodies/Clothing" mods, then create a new bashed patch, then play the game and see if those hands or bodies are still pink - you might have to use some kind of console command to disable/re-enable the NPC though in order to refresh the textures. If everything looks ok, then re-enable a few more mods, run LOOT, bashed patch, etc... until you run into the issue again. Then narrow it down to exactly which mod is doing it. -

OK - so I tested the female "Lobotomites Drumber" and actually created the character. After creating the character (right before Doc Mitchell has you work the vigormatic or whatever it's called) I zoomed out to look at her and only the skin on her head (down to the neck seam) is purple. Interesting, I felt that her chin was a bit too pointy also - which leads me to believe that maybe NVR3 or FCO creators never created a female version. Would they really leave the chin that pointy? lol Is there something in the code that places all the same "race/age-type" categories in both male and female regardless of whether or not all of the associated data is actually available? -

Do you get the same problem when you try to create a female character - and is it the same three options with purple textures? -

I didn't realize this before, but NVR3 still isn't quite right... If I try to create a male, and I flip through all the race categories it seems as though every option available looks ok and is different from each other. On the other hand, if I try to create a female, a bunch of options available to select look exactly the same as other options. Furthermore, these three specifically are missing texture files I think because the skin is bright purple: Caucasian Slave, Daniel Wyand, and Lobotomites Drumber. Is it possible that the author of NVR3 never created those female options and so they don't show up properly in the character creator... or is there some kind of installation incompatibility or installation procedure error? Another relevant question - even though many options seem to be repeats of the same face and those 3 options are missing texture files, will any of those affect the way certain NPCs look in the game? -

whitewolf87 - how to find where your bashed patch is: in MO, click on the right side of the screen the tab that says "Data". Then scroll down the list below that to where the "File" column says "Bashed Patch, 0.esp". Then look in the "Mod" column in the same row and you will see the name of the mod that holds the file. -

EssArrBee - So what do we do with Import Relations, Globals, Tweak, Assorted, and Tweak Names? whitewolf87 - I seem to recall a while ago having issues a while back with making bashed patches in MO running Wrye Flash NV. For some reason I wasn't able to rebuild a bashed patch if it was not in the overwrite folder - like if I tried to make it into its own mod and then rebuild it from there. So what I did for a long time was just keep it in the overwrite folder all the time because I was able to rebuild it when it was in there. For some reason, now I am able to rebuild a bashed patch that is not in the overwrite folder (one that is its own mod) - apparently it's supposed to work this way. I don't know why it works now and didn't work before. Does that help your situation at all? EDIT: oh, and remember that the bashed patch files are in the overwrite folder when you have any other processes in MO that place files into that folder so that you don't accidentally move the bashed patch files into another mod or something when you create a mod from the overwrite folder... -

"Go through every category and if there are plugins listed then tick the category and all the plugins except for the one I said to leave unchecked." If that's the case, then Import Relations should be listed in your guide to check on the left side, and then check all 3 plugins in the contents on the right side. So you are saying that Globals, Tweak Assorted, and Tweak Names should all be unchecked on the left side and then the contents on the right side also unchecked? -

BTW - the issue I was having with the fonts sort of corrected itself after I reinstalled the User Interface portion. I say "sort of", because even though the text was now visible, a bunch of the fonts were still not quite right though - too big. So I checked on the DarnUI font settings in fallout.ini. They weren't correct. I usually make the changes using notepad, but the last time I went in and adjusted the settings I had used the MO ini editor. For whatever reason, it must not have saved my changes correctly. So, using notepad I made the changes and saved the file, then set it back to read-only. After doing that the fonts showed up properly in the game. -

When rebuilding a bashed patch, here's part of what the guide instructions say: "In the Bashed Patch menu in the left pane make sure all these check boxes are ticked: Merge Patches, Import Actors, Import Actors: AIPackages, Import Actors: Death Items, Import Cells, Import Destructible, Import Factions, Import Graphics, Import Inventory, Import NPC Faces, Import Names, Import Scripts, Import Sounds, Import Stats, Import Weapon Modifications, Tweak Settings, Content Checker, FormID Lists, Leveled Lists, Race Records. Now go through all the sections that are checked and make sure to tick every check box in the right pane that you see except for: For Import Names leave Fallout.esm unticked. For Tweak Settings tick Terminal Speed Adjustment and then right click and set to 'x 6'." The instructions are unclear in this aspect: Are we supposed to make sure the items in the right panel under each category not checked in the left panel are all modified to be unchecked? Or do we leave them alone? I unchecked everything in those categories, but that could be wrong. -

Damn... I finally tried actually loading the game up after doing all the updates to my mod list (I did everything except completing all of the texture optimizings). I was relieved to see that it worked and starting playing the intro. Then I got bummed out when I realized that the text in the main menu was invisible. If I hovered the mouse over certain spots I would see highlighted boxes (apparently 1 for each clickable choice), and the boxes were very small (much smaller than the normal selectable text options are). I could have sworn I did the User Interface portion of the guide properly. I don't get it. First thing I did was install the Merge Plugins xEdit Script. Second was uninstall FOMM without deactivating any of the previously FOMM-installed mods (didn't want to f' with any of that...). Third was delete every User Interface mod from MO. Forth was follow the guide from top to bottom in installing all the mods (and I did move DarnifiedUI when prompted to). Got any ideas? -

Also, getting ITMs on TrooperOverhaul-Dragbody.esp in LOOT. And regarding the Holster mods: "Holster" and "Holster - new mesh for Heavensturkey". They both have a "Holster.esp", so I went into "Holster" and placed that .esp into optional. -

The extra note section in the guide about Optional ESPs for "EVE" is confusing, since those ESPs no longer exist for 1.16 - is that outdated info from 1.15c? EDIT: actually... those ESPs mentioned in the guide notes do exist in the main 1.16 archive. For some reason, they just didn't install? I'm confused. Apparently it's a fomod, and for me it didn't automatically install the "NO GRA" or "NO DLC" ESPs. EDIT2: if I go into MO settings and set Fomod Installer plugin to false, it does install those 2 ESPs. -

Holster - new mesh for Heavensturkey - newest version is 1.2a. There are 2 files - the guide doesn't specify if both should be installed. BTW - I'm not complaining about anything. Just helping to make the guide better by providing feedback as I implement it on my computer. :) EDIT - the contents of the 1.2a archive file is a little tricky, because it has to be installed into the "meshes\characters\_male\" folder of the other archive file's directory structure, apparently... -

EssArrBee - I know you are planning on putting NVR3 back in some time soon, but I'm trying to update my mod installation to the current state of the guide (I will add NVR3 back in later when you add it back in). One thing I'm trying to do is remove NVR3. I seem to recall that installing NVR3 involved modifying files in other mods, like FCO and maybe the Roberts mod or something... I just don't remember, because I can't see what was actually in the guide previously regarding the modifications that were made before. Now I am going to flat out reinstall FCO anyway... but what else should I be concerned with when removing NVR3? -
