FreeMortal Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Hi ladies and gents, Me again, still trying to learn all this, and failing. My stupid question of the day:Mod merging - lots of ways to do it... and therefore lots of ways to do it WRONG At the bottom of weather systems in the SR:LE guide, it is recommended to merge some of the climates of tamriel mods and the guide provides a link to a small guide on how to do this. Unfortunately the guide appears to be outdated as the instructions don't at all match what I see on my TES5EDIT screen when I try to pick a filter (Merge plugins vX.XX doesn't exist). When I just select "Merge" I get a different set of options from the guide at which point I go no further rather than to risk ruining all the work I've already done. So... how should I merge now? I found what looks like a downloadable script for doing this, but its for Xedit which doesn't appear to be mentioned much in the STEP community. Is it the right tool for this job? Do I just merge through Xedit now instead of TES5edit? Or is that a whole new can of worms? Do I need to merge? If I'm not pushing the max limit of esps, is merging still necessary/helpful? Can I put Climates of Tamriel - Sounds and its Dawnguard Patch into the mod merge as well? (or should I avoid all that since it is not mentioned in the SR:LE guide) Thanks for reading!
FreeMortal Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) Made some progress here... What really helped me was the merging video here. (made a couple months ago) It uses an experimental version of TES5Edit with the popular merge script from Nexus. (no need for Xedit, I guess) Also, There is a completely different and more comprehensive merging guide here. It appears to be more up to date because it mentions LOOT instead of BOSS. Hope this might help someone else. Edited January 1, 2015 by FreeMortal
Nozzer66 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) That script is the one you want. On Neovalen's SRLE page there's actually a link to that under Tool Addons. Maybe you missed it first time? As for LOOT vs BOSS, Neovalen's guide uses BOSS, not LOOT, cause I believe he personally prefers the use of BOSS. He'll likely pop in and clarify that though. He's usually on quite often. Edited January 1, 2015 by Nozzer66 1
FreeMortal Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) Okay, so far so good One last thing I'm not crystal clear on. I keep those mods I merged (in my case, the COT patches) enabled in the MO left pane right? Now, according to that video, Ineed to then find their corresponding .esp files (in the right pane under the plugins tab) and un-check them. However, Neovalen's guide says that I need to right-click each of the original mod patches in my left pane of MO, select information, and then move the ESPs up to the optional pane. I think these two methods are accomplishing the same end result as far as the game is concerned, however Neovalen's method appears to be cleaner from a modders perspective. (EDIT: Neovalen's method produces file not found errors in the log in the lower pane of MO, but the game launches okay) Do I have this right? As an aside, I guess a mess of mods in MO left pane beats a mess of .esp files, but is there a best practice to keeping track of all the additional mods and merged patches in MO? Right now, I'm just attaching a note to the merged patch mentioning all the mods contained inside so I can be sure that merged patch is below the original mod patches. Nozzer66 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Yep, do what Neo says. When you do that you remove the esp from the right pane so it wont sit there unchecked. Tidies things up some. When you mouse over the merged esp, it should give you a list of what's merged in it anyway. 1
GrantSP Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Just a little clarification on your xEdit query.xEdit is TES5Edit. It is also FNVEdit, FO3Edit & TES4Edit. The accepted method is to just rename the xEdit executable to which ever version you want, but you could also pass a switch upon execution such as this: xEdit.exe -tes5 -editwhich does the same thing. Other switches are: -tes4, -fo3 & -fnv for their respective gamesPersonally I do it that way so I can just have one installation of xEdit and use the switch to edit whichever game I want. That way I only need to maintain one folder not four. 2
triptonite Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 I have tried to merge The CoT files (DG, DB & Falskaar) a number of times now but continually fail to get the "Merge plugins vX.XX" in the drop down menu of TES5Edit. I have reinstalled TES5Edit and Merge Plugins xEdit Script a few times now in case I did not properly install either and have followed all videos in the forum thread and others. But I still do not get the "Merge plugins vX.XX" drop down. Can someone please help me as I am starting to get really frustrated.
Monobloc Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 The X.XX part is actually the version. So what you must find is Merge Plugins v1.9
Kelmych Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Merge Plugins is a script. Run TES5Edit (use version 3.1.1), making sure all the plugins you want to merge have a check mark in the initial window. When you see the "Background Loader: finished" message, right click in the left pane and select "Apply Script". Scroll until you get "Merge plugins 1.9". Click OK and continue with the merge.
triptonite Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Stupid me. I didn't extract the files before merging with TES5Edit.
triptonite Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 When I try to merge the Realistic Water Two files, they are all out of order when I open TES5Edit (Master/Plugins Selection window). I get: RealisticWaterTwo - Falskaar.espRealisticWaterTwo - Legendary.espRealisticWaterTwo - Waves - Falskaar.espRealisticWaterTwo - Waves - Wyrmstooth.espRealisticWaterTwo - Wyrmstooth.espRealisticWaterTwo.esp Any idea how I can change the order, since the las listed file is needed first?
Geheiligt Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Run loot, or manually rearrange them in the right side of MO.
Neovalen Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Run loot, or manually rearrange them in the right side of MO.This. Personally just drag and drop rearrange at bottom of load order when merging.
