what is STEP:Extended exactly?

Question

Posted

I'm sure it's complety obvious to most of you but I just don't know for sure.

I go to the Pack:STEP:Extended and it tells me this is for devs only and to use the main guide, which mentions little about STEP:Extended other than refer back to that dev page.

So what is it exactly?

Is it just all the mods in the guide without a green bar?

Also, is STEP:Skyrim Revisted ready for me to try or should I not?

STEP:Core = mods on the STEP Guide marked with a green bar to the left of the mod.

STEP:Extended = all other mods.

Install the entire Guide for the full STEP experience. Core is mainly just fixes.

Skyrim Revisited is maintained by a user, Neovalen, and not by STEP. I can not attest to it's completeness; however, can say that many, many users do follow that Guide.

Thank you so much for your patient answer.  I've been working all day on this (finally made it to the bottom of the guide) and look forward to playing skyrim soon.

Well Maybe I screwed things up then...

I installed all the mods, more or less in the order presented in the guide.  I did NOT instell the greens, then the non-greens. (which I think I should have done)

During my journey through STEP, I've noticed that when I create a new bashed patch I'll ger order warnings from MO (not LOOT).  I click on Fix all, and I can see that they are reordered.  Run LOOT again, Bash Patch again, until MO doesn't complain anymore.  Hope they are all in good order.  Game seems to run so far without CTDs, although my framerate is horrible (R9 280x).

Is it okay? or do I need to back up and uninstall all the non-green mods?

No, you did it correctly. The mods should be installed in the order they are listed in the Guide. Core vs Extended doesn't mean a lot right now in the current Guide for users install the entirety of STEP. It's more for the future of the project.

Don't click that warning to Fix installation order. We've checked the order personally and there is nothing wrong with it. Make sure the mod are in the same order they are listed on the Guide; top to bottom.

Here is my current method:

I've already installed STEP:Extended

Copied it to profile Skyrim Revisited

Uninstalling and Reinstalling all mods for which SR:LE has different options.

Crossing my fingers...

Noticed that MO reports some mods as being already installed, when I try to remove then reinstall them.  When that happens I just click "replace".  Only had to do that a couple of times on the Book of Silence mods.

Bad bad bad!  Something went wrong. MO is putting all those mods into one single mod.  Trying to fix... will let you all know what happens.

Okay, it looks like (in this case, at least) you don't want to replace the mod when it does that.  MO looks up the ID and gives it the name of the last mod installed from that ID.  To work around, I click Rename instead of Replace, and type in the mods name.

(in my case, since I've already installed aMidianBorn Book of Slience - Armors, I will be sure that the weapons mod will be named aMidianBorn Book of Slience - Weapons. If I just clicked Replace, then I'd have a mod called aMidianBorn Book of Slience - Armors, but it would contain the files of aMidianBorn Book of Slience - Weapons.)

Crisis averted, I think

There's 2 ways you can do it.

1) Change the names on all the components to just 'aMidianBorn' using the rename option and install all the components into one mod using the 'Merge' option.

2) Again using rename, do what you're doing and install each module/option separately. That's usually how I do it so it's easier to drill down on things if there's an issue.

Keep punching, sounds like you have an analytical sort of mind and are happy to work it out via your own trials :)
