Question

Hello, this isn't directly related to S.T.E.P. but more of a problem related to Skyrim. I have this really weird and annoying graphical bug that I had posted in 2 other topics on other forums as well contacted Bethesda about. So far I haven't been able to get this fixed. So now I'm going to see if anyone here knows how to fix it.

So the issue is that random textures are extremely low quality compared to the surrounding. It is always the same textures. This even happens with a clean installation of Skyrim with no mods installed and with a new game.

Here are some screenshots:

Lakeview Manor Outside:

https://i.imgur.com/mGzTy45.jpg (same as above but with 4k texture mod. Both sides did go up in quality but they still don't match)

Yngol Barrow:

Some Random Place:

Fight with a Blood Dragon:

I have no idea what is going on or how to fix this. I'm hoping someone here knows what is going on.

My Specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU: Intel Core I7 3770K @ 3.50GHz
RAM: 16 GB
Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P8Z77-V LX (LGA1155)
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 7800 series

Can anyone help me with this issue?

Currently reinstalling Skyrim, almost finished. For now I don't want to use any retextures. So this leads me to a question of which mod should I rather get?

ONE MOUNTAIN - MESHES - Required 1_5 - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/58666/

No stretching USKP compatible - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26126/

The second mod I found from reading the description of the first mod. What are the differences of these 2 mods?

One mountain includes all the fixes from no stretching and many others.

If you are not going to use re-textures then you are going to have to deal with vanilla problems.

Nevermind, installed No Stretching as well as this mod:

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/2906/

The Lakeview Manor rocks still look the same as in the screenshots.

EDIT: I just tried ONE MOUNTAIN with both the meshes and the textures. This is what is looks like:

I guess it's just impossible for a mod to be created to unstretch textures.

Stretched textures are a mesh issue, and No Stretching will fix, but ONLY if that mod actually fixes that particular mesh, which it may not. no Stretching exacerbates other issues though, so that is why we dropped it from STEP. in short, it fixes UV mapping, but due to the way meshes and textures for rocks and mountains were created, the mod fixes some things and messes up other things (i.e., Bethesda stretched some textures as a compromise for their lack of proper rock models ... the vanilla models share too few textures).

Any base vanilla install requires a couple of mods installed at minimum to resolve certain fundamental issues, so install these and call it a 'corrected' base vanilla (refer to the STEP Guide):

  • Unofficial Patches (all of them; these correct many issues with the vanilla game and may impact some of those stated in the OP)
  • SkyUI (for simpler interface on PC)
  • SMIM (fixes many of the bad meshes that will likely fix many issues reported here)
  • High Quality LOD (fixes LOD meshes)

Again, you may be reinstalling Skyrim, but I encourage you to uninstall Steam/Skyrim completely and reinstall again using the STEP Guide instructions ... and use MO.

Currently working on getting those mods. I already use the unofficial patches.

However I have a random question that has nothing to do with this topic:

The tail on the argonian, is it normal to look like this:

Basically what I see is that the tail seems to curve and go on an angle like a third way in. Normal for it to do that?

Also if you can take a screenshot as well so I have something to compare, that would be great since most of the time I always found people don't quite understand what I mean.

So which high quality LOD do I get? I'm guessing the high res version. I'm not using any texture mod unless you call SMIM to be one. Besides that all I'm using for textures is the official high res texture pack. So which high quality LOD do I get?

2.G. Landscape & Environment
STEP recommends

Install the HQLODs - Meshes Hi-Res main file. Do not install the normals. For slightly better performance at slightly less quality, the medium-resolution meshes can be used.

The whole argonian tail thing is normal... Its always be weird

I believe there is a mod that uses havok on it but that may only be for kajiit tails

"Argonian tail twist fix" used to be a mod, but I think the USKP fixes the issue, so this goes back to proper setup of Steam/Skyrim/MO and proper installation of mods.

USKP does with the tail twisty bug and I know what that is. It had to deal with crouching and moving a special way. I forgot exactly what the special way was but I do remember that I did test it out and USKP did fix it. What I posted in the screenshot is different and it happens whenever you stand still. It isn't too big of an issue but still noticeable. Now if Argonian tail twist fix is suppose to fix that as well, then I guess I didn't install USKP properly even though it was at once my only mods.

I'm currently avoid big mods that change a lot of how the game looks until my second playthough which is why I'm not really using the STEP guide until later. For now the only mods I'm using are mods that fix things that really bother me and all the mods posted by z929669 seem to help. So for now I just need to know what is the correct option for high quality LOD to get without using other texture mods.
