Should I install SR or follow STEP?

Question

Posted

I am pretty confused on what is going on with STEP. Up until recently it has been pretty straight forward and awesome but, the latest announcement is confusing. Do I follow the STEP guide or do The Skyrim Revisited guide? It seems that a once simple to follow tutorial has now crossed over into something else with all of these possible branches.

From the sound of it you're looking for a simple yet nice and easy to follow base for your skyrim modding experience. Hence I would recommend you follow the STEP guide choose the mods you like and then if you feel confident about TES5Edit use Neovalen's TES5Edit instructions (from Skyrim Revisited) to help make things more stable and maybe try out a few more mods. I wouldn't concern yourself with all the new politics we staff members are throwing around. We're really just trying to inform the public about what's going on and we're still working out the kinks. One of the biggest is of course which mods are for STEP and what is for the STEP add-ons (The PACKS so to speak like Skyrim Revisited). I hope this helps! Happy modding.

Thank you. This is actually going to be my third install of Skyrim. My second and third installs I used STEP and I did do some cleaning with TES5Edit on the last install. The level of difficulty isn't really my concern as much as what is going to look the best and give the best experience. I really just appreciate your guy's suggestions and time in aggregating these mods into a single guide. Maybe I will try SR just to give it a go.

I think what people need to realize is that STEP is a decade of modding experience, trial and error, simplified as best it can be. Unless you've been adding mods to your games for many years, there's no way you can grasp the magnitude of how difficult a project like this was and is to assemble.
