After installing STEP, including all BSA optimization steps (which I suspect may be the culprit), all of the images in books are missing. Is this something someone is already aware of, as well as how to fix it?

Yeah I've noticed a few books missing images as well for a while I'll probably just copy the originals over. Of course Aiyen might have an idea on using GIMP to edit and optimize them manually if you're interested.

Yeah, what would have happened there is that the PNG files used for the book images have been converted to DDS files, and don't work.

Just copy the original PNGs over, and delete the DDS files that were created.

Yeah I optimized the PNG's last night for Vanilla and all the DLC's which were oddly not covered in the HRDLC packs. Either way I now have to add them to my ModOrganizer list and the archives.

I reoptimized the vanilla BSAs, using the updated method listed on this site, including using the batch files to automate most of the process. Nonetheless, my book images are still missing. What's gone wrong?

One of the steps in the 2_Pre-optimization.bat file copies all the extracted Skyrim - textures .png files to the output folder so they should be there; were there any errors in the log.txt file?. Look in STD\textures\interface\books in the "Vanilla Optimized" directory. There should be a number of .png files and 7 folders which also contain .png files.
