I am utterly confused...

Question

So this is my first attempt to mod and have followed STEP v2.2.0a guide to the letter... branching off at each topic and reading up. I have run TES5Edit successfully on my vanilla install and have just finished optimizing the textures in DDSopt... now my issue. After optimizing and archiving the HRDLC1.7z HRDLC2.7z HRDLC3.7z STD.7z according to the DDSOpt instructions I have copied them to SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Mods\Bash Installers and told Wrye Smash to install the 4 files except after it was done I have zero bsa files for the High Res Texture Packs or Skyrim Textures in the Data folder... all it appears to have installed is a Texture folder. When looking through Wrye Smash console I have 100's of conflicts. Anyone know where I screwed up? If I launch Skyrim through Wrye Smash it appears to work but for some reason my mind is telling me those bsa files should be there and I shouldn't have all of these conflicts. Thanks for any help for a mod noob.

If you unpacked the BSAs in DDSopt to use as loose files (should be the preferred method...though I haven't read the Guide since the revisions) then there is no reason to have the BSAs. The BSAs are simply a compressed file structure and if you unpack them to optimize and use the loose files then the BSAs are not needed.

You will have a lot of conflicts anyways, there are quite a few mods that overlap on files, especially the overhauls like HRDLC Optimized, Skyrim HD and Serious HD, there's got to be several hundred conflicts between those alone. The raw number of conflicts isn't what matters, it's which file ends up being used.

I really hope you took our advice and used WB or MO to install STEP because we're about to release a new version with a ton of updates.

Sorry for the wrong forum choice... thank you for moving.

I did use WS for my install and have literally followed every step in the STEP, SIG and DDSopt guides. Going to start downloading and installing the mods in section 2 tonight.

Thank you for the reassurance that I did not need the bsa files and about the conflicts.
