Overlapping LOD Help - Skyrim

Question

Posted

I finally finished my graphics mods with DynDOLOD as the last step. Most things seem to work, tree LODs are a tad dark, but I can fix that by redoing the LODs. However, I'm running into an issue of LODs overlapping actual graphics and not unloading when I get near them. It seems to only happen when I fast travel somewhere, because it doesn't load in all the high res textures. It seems to mostly be limited to towns and cities, with road textures and buildings overlapping. I'm not sure if I set the LODs up wrong, used TexGen wrong, or have something messed up in the .ini file. I've got uStaticNeverFade=1, could that be doing it? I also messed with my uGrids and set them to 5. I'll include my skyrim.ini with the post, with some screenshots too. I've been following Sintar's guide up until now, where I've had to veer off a bit to try and get 3D tree LODs. This is my first time really modding Skyrim, so I'm not used to all the Bethesda quirks.

Side question, is the process for redoing the LODs the same as the update process described in the manual? If, say, I uninstall a mod, do I have to run texgen and dyndolod all over again and then just put the output back into NMM? Or is there more of a process?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Remove uLockedObjectMapLOD=32 to fix the LOD not unloading or set it to the default 16. Or generate LOD level 32 object LOD as explained in the trees.ultra\DynDOLOD-Trees.html and see if it works better.

uStaticNeverFade is a made up INI setting. I suggest to ignore everything from guides/posts that include made up INI settings.

iPreloadSizeLimit is for loading BIK videos. Despite that this has been known for decades, people set it to nonsense values.

bUseBackgroundFileLoader is not a [General] setting, but belongs in [backgroundLoad] and is believed to not be used by the game. See https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Skyrim_INI/BackgroundLoad

bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel  is not a [General] setting, but belongs in [backgroundLoad]. See https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Skyrim_INI/BackgroundLoad#bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel

iPostProcessMillisecondsLoadingQueuedPriority is not a [General] setting, but belongs in [backgroundLoad]. See https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Skyrim_INI/BackgroundLoad#iPostProcessMillisecondsLoadingQueuedPriority

Do not change uGridsToLoad.

Use a real mod manager like MO2.

The manual explains both scenarios in the Updating section: Updating existing DynDOLOD plugin(s) does not require a clean save. Generating from scratch does. Starting a new game or using a save that never saw a DynDOLOD plugin is equivalent to a clean save.

Changine the map LOD fixed the issue, thanks so much! As for those other ini settings, should I bother keeping the ones that belong in BackgroundLoad or am I better off just deleting them? It seems like the guide I was sent was mostly ********, I checked some of the ini settings and they don't even exist in Skyrim, some of them are only for FO4. Yeesh. Even the guide to generate 3D trees in the tree mod readme was more outdated then the DynDOLOD guide, I should really just stick to your stuff.

Oh, and does uExteriorCellBuffer actually do anything or should I just delete that line too?

I ended up using NMM because I was used to it, is it an easy thing to switch to Mod Organizer 2? It seems to have some pretty cool features.

I would just delete all those that sheson pointed out. They will have default values and will still be configured without being in the INIs if they are valid. Consider using BethINI to manage.

MO2 is worlds better than NMM and most other mod managers for many reasons. Wrye Bash is also a solid option. Our wiki guide is very relevant to MO2 setup. You can review some of the initial setup in the STEP SSE Guide (or SLE Guide) and the MO guide on the wiki for general instructions (including basic tools setup; fe, BethINI, LOOT, DynDOLOD, etc.).
