Confused on the ILO merge

OK, I'm a bit unclear on the instructions for Interior Lighting Overhaul, though I'm familiar with merging mods in general.

 

... Why am I making the main ILO Ultimate Edition .esp optional? I'm never told to move it back after merging patches. Doesn't this mean it won't work, or does the NVInteriors compatibility patch replace it or ...?

Interior Lighting Overhaul - Ultimate Edition.esp is just an esp version of Interior Lighting Overhaul - Core.esm. It is not needed.
