Salvaging STEP post win 10 upgrade...
Sakiri replied to Sakiri's question in General Skyrim LE Support
If I can just keep the mods, the settings, all that crap and just paste it into a fresh install, I'll do that even. Trying to run SKSE is telling me I'm missing d3dx9 dlls and it looks like I'm going to have to reinstall Skyrim anyways. -
Long story short, I think I'm hosed. I upgraded to windows 10 at the behest of a really good friend of mine. One with 12 flawless upgrades under his belt. One that said "oh it's painless." I proceed to have every issue under the sun, and now have had to refresh my install. Now just about everything was saved to D:\, with a few exceptions. Loot's over there, as is WB and everything else... But Skyrim and Steam were installed on C:\, which is my SSD. I installed MO over there so as to have all the mods for Skyrim on the same drive(load issues otherwise, we fixed this all before), but after the refresh I have had to reinstall some programs that windows can't find, or has removed. For example, LOOT can't find my Skyrim install, and therefore won't work right, and when I installed Steam, and directed it to where the game is(where I told it to install in the first place), the normal launcher won't even start. I haven't tried to run WB, FNIS, or TESVEdit yet. I'm looking at 12 GB of Skyrim reinstall and 13GB of STEP install. I just dropped 40+ GB of bandwidth this WEEK trying to get all this crap sorted out and everything reinstalled(this has been a six day affair now). I really don't want to reinstall. Again. I'm on a limited connection. Living with a streamer. We're probably close to our cap already. Help? Really want to just kick the guy for suggesting I do this in the first place. Windows 7 was working fine outside the whole "windows update just wasn't working" issue this was supposed to fix.

Missing floors, walls, texture oddities...
Sakiri replied to Sakiri's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Log from traveling from Whtierun to Windhelm Harbor: Going to rerun the installer for the two mods mentioned while I'm at it. Edit, hopped in game, hauled my butt over there after reinstalling the meshes and lighting, works. <3 -
Okay, so.. I've posted issues with this build before and I don't know what the problem is. I've noticed that with this STEP build I've been getting more frequent CTDs but no idea what causes them. I'm kind of used to CTDs but when they happen soon into the game session I'm starting to get annoyed. And they're random. I'll be running through town, I'll get to a gate, I'll be running through a random field somewhere. Boom. Then this happened. https://i.imgur.com/IWBVbND.jpg That there fixed itself upon going "wtf" and reloading a save. But it was.. odd. AI stopped responding properly randomly. Went on a dragon hunt with FarkasI(had Inigo with me) and he just kinda stood there stupid. Not fighting back. He did this throughout the Companions quest line as well, just randomly stop hitting things. I've had followers do this before but he wasn't actively a follower, but rather a quest follower, and I've not seen him do that as one before. Had a CTD using the "Summon Inigo" spell from that mod inside Helgen. He apparently decided that ignoring the bandits was bad(I did not have weapons out, he was mounted, he's supposed to ignore combat under those conditions) and ran off somewhere, I went to summon him after finding his corpse wake and boom. CTD. https://i.imgur.com/6ApnuEO.jpg This was Greywinter Grotto. I went in there to clear it out for Aela. I had to clip through the floor all the way down to Hell in order to get the last wolf to kill for that update. I couldn't find it at first.. half the floor was missing. And this. https://youtu.be/DA59br0mk3s That hole in the back is where I finally found that last wolf. My system specs: https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Sakiri/SystemSpecs enblocal: Skyrim.ini: Skyrimprefs.ini: Load order: This is occurring across the two characters I've made since reinstalling and setting up STEP. This is occurring in old saves of the second character, the first one I cleaned most of the old saves out for. First character had approximately 23 hours on it.Second character has approximately 30 hours on it. Restarting isn't... horrible... but I'm not really wanting to again. Frequent restartitis is one of the causes of my putting the dang game down and being done with it for a while. Any ideas what's going on here? Existing saves hosed? Halp?

I wouldn't overclock it anyways. Last time I attempted that it cost me a few hundred. I'm referring to anything I can do to the game install itself. Not hardware. Because outside the monitoring software, nothing *was* running in the background. Soon as I shut Skyrim off my CPU usage went back down to 2%.
-
First off: https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Sakiri/SystemSpecs Get that out of the way. I'm having a few... issues. So to speak. Mostly with GPU and CPU usage. I expect them to be high but it's going to interfere with some things. I record videos. With just OBS running, I get some stuttering and I'm like well hm... let's see. Fired up Afterburner(GPU monitoring) and RivaTuner(framerate) as well as CoreTemp(CPU monitor) and noted a few things. With OBS running, I'm regularly capping my CPU usage. All cores are averaging 85% capacity, and temperatures are reaching close to 80C. This is a system that sits idle at 45C, tops. Air cooled. Without OBS running, I'm sitting at closer to 60-70% CPU used, and my temps don't go above 75C. Regardless of the use of OBS, my GPU usage peaks at 100% and just stays there. I'm now curious as to if there's something I can do to the install to fix that. I'm actually using all of STEP's suggested qualities or lower already. Medium setting for DynDOLOD. Is there anything I can do to lower the load on my processors?
-
Solved my load screen issues. Not a single CTD in the couple hours I was playing either. Now if only I could boost my framerate a bit I'd be golden. Normally in the 55-60 range, drops to 35-45 in cities occasionally or when there's a lot going on. I'll figure it out elsewhere. Thanks :D
-
I'll probably do the second one. I just wasn't sure if there was a really complicated way of doing it or not(used to be a real pain in the butt to change install directories.... /flashbacks). The "Q" was for "question" because I didn't want a super huge long probably truncated title. When I installed MO using the installer, I installed it on D:\Mod Organizer, like I do with everything else. Skyrim is in C:\SteamLibrary. Steam itself is installed on D:\ as well. I want to get another SSD so I can keep my games OFF my system drive, but it wasn't in the budget when I built. I do plan on getting a second solid state and a new mechanical drive for storage as well as another 8 GB RAM stick as soon as I get my finances figured out. I'll need a new case too next year but that's a different story. I'll just copy MO over and leave the original on D:\, it should serve as a backup.
-
This is probably a stupid question, but... Would the reason my load times are trash be related to the fact I have MO located on a different drive? I have Skyrim installed on my 256GB SSD and space on it is precious. Mod Organizer, along with every other non gaming program, is on an older Western Digital 512GB HDD. I don't offhand remember how much space I have remaining on the solid state but I remember it being quite full, which is why I didn't put MO there. If this *is* the case (I just now thought of it, yay 03:14 revelations), how would I go about moving it without having to reinstall? My ISP will kick my rear if I redownload all near 13GB of STEP... Thanks.
-
That makes sense to me then. Because even under the best circumstances I shouldn't be seeing jumps up to 1k on my card. Alright got that one sorted out. Hopefully it stays like this. Small list of problems I'm sorting out one at a time. <3 Thanks folks :)

They're set. Just double checked. Unsure if ENB's framerate display is supposed to reflect those changes though, because that's still going into the 600s in Whiterun. I enabled RivaTuner and it's showing me at 55-60 with some drops in places like "I just loaded a new cell and there's stuff going on" but nothing awful.
-
Yeah I'm not sure what happened. I might try to reinstall later, but I'm still trying to figure out my frame rate issues.
-
I did. It's in enblocal. My driver is set up correctly (Radeon controls). My enblocal is posted in another thread (not at my computer ATM) and the only change I made was the recommended one. Radeon controls are *not* limiting frame rate. Yet weird physics. Would ENB frame rate toggle show the vsync? Because when I looked at that I was like "wth?"
-
My only problem with it was that it never loaded at all. I double and triple checked to see if it was installed, and it was, but no MCM, no nothing. I'd go back to CH(I miss that so much) but with my lagging quest scripts I'm leery.
-
Alright, more noob again. :( I'm starting to have issues with a few things. Biggest offenders are quest script advancing, horse mount/dismount, weapon sheathing, interacting with the smelter, etc. All delayed. I'm assuming it's script lag. I've also come to terms with the fact that I'll have to start over(again) if I remove script heavy mods. So which ones are script heavy? Like, which ones have the biggest hit to try disabling? And unrelated, why in the world does it feel like my vsync is still off? Kick something, kill something.. shoots across the map. Tripping on everything worse than normal. And yes, I checked. Vysnc is enabled, ENB is supposedly dealing with it. I feel like such a bother >.> Google isn't telling me much other than "these are the prime ones(stuff I don't have installed) and you have to start over." ><

Infinite load, high VRAM/GPU usage, help?
Sakiri replied to Sakiri's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Alright, update. Edited enblocal. Left occlusion culling on. Disabled borderless window. Reenabled SFO. Had to disable borderless window, it hung on trying to load a save. Runs fine. Load time is a bit longer than I'm used to(thank you Jebus for SSD - about 20s...)but it loaded without issues. Tiny bit of stuttering. Still using almost 7 GB of my RAM. I'm honestly thinking I need to upgrade that. I'm also wondering if this is normal. https://i.imgur.com/uZ0CvqB.jpg - This is my GPU usage. Spikes like no tomorrow during load screens, sits at or near 100% during play. https://i.imgur.com/zb3J2zR.jpg - This is my GPU clock speed. Spikes but not as o.O as my overall usage. VRAM usage has been steady but high, 1.7GB used though is about right. Sorry for crappy cell phone shots. >.> Other dilemmas I'm trying to fix are "why the crap is Immersive Horses just.. not there" and "why is Belethor having me arrested for tresspassing at 1 pm, when his door was unlocked?" but that latter one is pretty normal. Are those graphs anything to be terribly worried about(they make me nervous, especially after my somewhat recent issue with my CPU not being installed right when I built this thing... https://i.imgur.com/SyLFsqQ.jpg says it all. BF installed it but didn't seat the HSF properly... *sighs* no wonder it was overheating) or am I just being paranoid? And is there any way to lower the load on the GPU a bit? Normally, I have my shadows down a lot lower than the STEP had me set them to because they've long been the bane of performance but I'm a little nervous about touching settings here. I've modded my game for years but never to this degree and I'm a scared little girl at screwing something up. Again, apologies for noob. :( -
Infinite load, high VRAM/GPU usage, help?
Sakiri replied to Sakiri's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I generated the LODs with SFO installed and enabled. I'll turn that back on when I get to this in a bit(busy for a few hours) and try with it first. My rig *should* be able to handle this. Should and can are two different beasts though. -
Infinite load, high VRAM/GPU usage, help?
Sakiri replied to Sakiri's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I'll try those a little bit later and update again. Do I have to regenerate LODs after removing/adding the flora overhaul? If not, which mods, if any, would require it? After I pulled the flora I reran WB to rebuild the patch. Necessary? If I can get this running well, I may readd that mod to see what the performance looks like. If it's still bad I'll let you know and we can try something else. My ISP will kick my backside if I have to redownload all this again >.> yay data caps! Also apologies for being an idiot. Never actually modded this extensively before. Looks absolutely fantastic though. I'm also curious about this. Ex of mine used to program 3D games, always stressed getting his to work right. The days occlusion culling was a new toy to play with... Occlusion culling generally improves performance unless Bethesda can't program their way out of a paper bag somehow to screw it up. Edit, now that I look at the post again, it's the occlusion culling in the ENB file that he's saying to disable. If the game itself is already doing it(if the default game does have it I'll be surprised) it doesn't need to. -
First thing out of the way: https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Sakiri/SystemSpecs Load Order: Note: I have SFO installed but disabled. I was *hoping* that would solve some of my problems, but as soon as I did that, I started getting long/infinite load screens. enblocal: skyrimprefs.ini skse.ini I am using a few non STEP mods, a hide helmet toggle and Inigo. I noticed zero performance difference with either or both disabled. Setting it to windowed mode made the load screens even longer(when they actually finished), but the stutter was worse in full screen. Certain indoor interiors loaded quicker than others(Riften jail CTD'd me once, stuttered something awful otherwise, but Whiterun was perfectly fine), but there was no real pattern to the CTDs. I always just accept them as an inevitability of Bethsoft games(they happen in vanilla installs for me too sometimes.. randomly...) My GPU is spiking pretty high to 100% usage(monitoring with Afterburner) and my VRAM usage is also rather high but not capped. System memory sits around 6.5GB used, low CPU load. Like, a lot lower than I expected to see. Looks absolutely gorgeous but when I'm running on a SSD and my load screens take more than 15 seconds I'm a bit perplexed, so.. My first thought was kill the floral overhaul and see if I can lower the quality on a few others, but the instant I took out that floral overhaul it just got worse. I don't know if I should regenerate the LODs or Bash again or what. I generally don't mod to this level. In fact, I never do. This is the first time I've attempted this, and most of the fixes I've seen online just confuse me(doesn't help I'm running on low sleep). I've come to the point where I sort of just want to scrap it and start fresh again, but then I realized I just downloaded over 20 gigs of data(including base game) and my ISP is going to throw a fit if I download more before the beginning of next month to redo it. If there's any other information you want to see, yell at me. I'll probably check up on this tomorrow. I need to go pass out before I fall asleep on my keyboard. Thanks folks.
