Just a quick and so I hope final question for the time beeing until MO is hopefully updated: What do I do in the fallout4custom.ini concerning this: Should I set bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 OR sResourceDataDirsFinal= to sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\ The above option is said (Tooltip in Fallout 4 Configurator) to overwrite the settings for the second entry. Thanks, Altaya

Ok, I got everything working again but I still cant say for sure what the cause of the crash was. I started by removing the folder \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\F4SE\ which had some logfiles and the achievement file in it and then backed up my Sweet FX config using the ENB Manager (which I didn´t know about, thanks for the tip!) (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9838/?). I thought that MO2 would not install anything directly into the "data" folder so this was a surprise for me. Then I went to install newest LOOT Version after uninstalling old one. The new one still crashes though, sadly, when using MO2 to start it but before it crashes on closing and before the crash it sorts everything fine. (I am using MO2 portable install on my games drive and LOOT as an installed program (also not on "c:" but on my games drive). F4SE version was latest as was MO2 Version so I did nothing there. I then started MO2 and (just to be sure ;) ) deinstalled the Looks Mod and the "Achievements" Mod from my Modded profile. After that it still didn´t work, neither through launcher, normal exe nor F4SE.exe. I then removed all loose files in the game folder, not the folders themselves, checked again that only official files were in the data folder and then did a "validate files" in steam. After redownloading the files for the gamefolder the game started up fine again. The interesting thing: I backed up the loose file from my gamefolder (for reference) with which starting the game always crashed and there is no difference in the available files compared to what I no have after reinstalling everything. Both folders have the same named files in it. (I already reinstalled the ENB, shadowboost, F4SE and the creation kit so I have the exact same state I had before revalidating files). Starting the game also works if I use MO2 and the profile with no mods selected. I will have to remove the ini tweak "bEnableFileSelection=1" since I still have it active. A question concerning the inis: Will only the custom.ini be used if its present or are both used? Right now I have changes in both inis and for example the entry fallout4.ini has sResourceDataDirsFinal= [...] is only inside my fallout4.ini and not in the custom.ini. Some changes seem to be written to both inis by the Fallout 4 Configurator Tool.

I´ll give your suggestions a try this evening. Just wnated to reply concerning Ini-Files. I ilke to use the Fallout Configurator Tool and made it so I can start it in MO2. But using it the tool still only changes the inis in the folder: C:\Users\Use\Documents\my games\Fallout4 I checked this making changes and saving it to the inis and then checking the "changed date" on the files. The inis in the MO Profile Folder were unchanged only the one in above folder were changed. I just copied the ones from the my games folder to the profile in case those were used for the game starting it through MO2.

Hi forum users! I really hope you can help me with this. I´ve been working on setting up a pretty heavily modded game using MO 2 and following this guide: https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Kesta/FO4PersonnalGuide I skipped some mods there and added some others. As for basic tools and utilities I followed the first part of the linked guide which means I use: F4SE.exe LOOT I also use a SweetFX Preset Version: K-putt's_Fallout_ReShade_1.5 'Performance'-58-1-5 Since I had been modding the game slightly using a few mods last year and only came back after a break from FO 4 I then skipped to using MO 2 (about 2 weeks ago) and for that I deleted all the mods (6 or so) in NMM, then installed MO 2. Before that I manually cleaned out the Fallout 4 Steamfolder (Data and the Game folder) since I reinstalled all utility programs new. In MO2 I configured a profile called after my main character "Norruto" and installed the same mods I had in NMM. I configured the profile with "local savegames" and copied the character Norruto and alls his saves to it. After that was done i tried if everything worked fine and only then started to add more mods following above linked guide. Everything worked fine. I start the game using F4SE.exe in MO2 after using Loot. The Reshade Version is shown, the game starts and I can load my savegames and play. Then I added the mods from the guide, and some others. Everything works fine still as long as I use the Norruto Profile and start the game through MO2 using F4SE.exe. But then I wanted to see again what the default game looks like if I use no mods but the official DLC. So I copied the Default Profile in MO2 named it "NoMod_Profile" and copied the first savegame from the Default Profile to this profile after setting it to "local savegames". The Problem is: Every time i start the game using this profile and F4SE.exe the game crashes the instant it says "press any button to start". I checked all the files in the profile folder and everything seems fine, modlist, loadorder, I even ran loot only for the official DLC files which are all checked in the plugins tab. Maybe it has sth to do with profiles? The Profile "NoMod_Profile" now has no characters listed in the upper right field saying "Character for profile "NoMod_Profile" and below in the lower right corner it says "Save1_75FA7CBC__SanctuaryHillsWorld_000133_20151115005318_1_2" Also under global characters it lists no character (since my only character is assigned to the Norruto Profile) and also just lists the same first savegame here. In the profile "NoMod_Profile" no mods are checked on the left side in MO and on the right side all official esm´s are checked. I also tried using the ini files from the Norruto - Profile for the "NoMod_Profile", still it crashes at the same time. I´d really like to be able to start the game without any mods and the load specific savegames from the norruto playthrough to check what the game would look without mods. Or at least I´d like to start the game using no mods and then create a new character. Maybe the first save I list above is the one right before character creation, so that would jump right to that point if the game would start up. I also crashed if I use the officials launcher alone or click on the F4SE.exe in the game folder. I already went to the Appdata Folder and deleted all the stuff in there since there were still some old plugin.txt files and stuff there. Any help is appreciated. I guess I can´t have messed sth. serious (in the steam folders or sth.) since using MO 2 everything mod related is handled "externally" through MO. Also I have backups of my ini files and my savegames. Just how do I start the game with no mods and get to create a new character (using MO2 preferably)? Thanks for reading and greetings, Altaya

GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback
Altaya replied to EssArrBee's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Comments to STEP Guide First of all: Kudos to the author or authors of this Guide! During the last two and a half weeks I followed the instructions and rebuild my game completely while also for the first time completely changing to MO for modding a Bethesda game. I started Modding with Skyrim and NMM, then transferred to Wrye Bash an tried out MO a bit. I never finished Skyrim but I basically modded it to death ;) Yesterday I finally had my FNV STEP Base Setup ready and built my first character with it. During installation I took some notes that maybe could be added to the guide or things that I found could be improved on. These I want to share now. Some are maybe already changed, as I said I started about 14 days ago … For some parts I´ll also just post question that came to me during that part of the installation. I hope these comments help a bit maintaining this great guide J Weapons of the New Millenia From the Guide: Note: The store and CaliberX plugins will be provided by CaliberX. The LITE version of the store must be used for compatibility with Gun Runners Actually Run Guns. Comment: These plugins are not included in any of the archives of Calibre X. CaliberX From the Guide: “In Mod Organizer's left pane double-click the mod and in the pop-up box select the "Optional ESPs" tab.Move "CaliberXgunrunners.esm", "CaliberXhonesthearts.esm", "Weapons.of.the.New.Millenia.Cheat.Cabinet.esp", and "Weapons.of.the.New.Millenia.Store.esp" to the "Optional ESPs" box.â€Comment: "Weapons.of.the.New.Millenia.Cheat.Cabinet.esp", and "Weapons.of.the.New.Millenia.Store.esp Not included in any of the archive of CaliberX. In the Step before this (Millenia Weapon Pack) we also deselected them so you cannot find them anywhere in MO under optional or installed esms/esps, neither in CaliberX or in Millenias Mod. You´d have to also drag the Lite Store plugin from the optional folder into the data folder as we did with the textures and meshes while installing Millenias Weapons. Ore are those “wrong†files with the same name? One could also add the line “click merge when installing the updated esm†since this is mentioned quite often in other parts of the guide. Project Nevada Patches Missing instruction: Either have user deselect these esps or put them into optionals: For Project Nevada - EVE Support 1_2: Project Nevada - EVE No DLC.esp and Project Nevada - Eve No GRA.esp Improved Sound FX v0821 Whats with these CP esps you can Download? Maybe write sth that explains why not to DL: EVE esps WMX Merged All DLC Patch (As I see it we use a slightly jounger Version of this patch in the next step) And: Why not install Improved sound FX - Merged Major DLC.esp but put it into Optionals? Then I could delesect DLC-Folder in the first step of the installer right away since I don’t need any of the plugins for STEP (?). Casino Exchange All Form the Guide: Installation: Get the Fomod installer version. Choose the Pre-War Money option during install. Better option for exchanging money for chips at the casinos. Comment: No matter whether I click Pre War Money in FOMOD Installer or not I only ever get one esp in the “available and optional esp tab†afterwards. And that one is the “Casino Exchange all.espâ€. [i decided to stick with this one ] More Perks Comment: Maybe just to clarify you could write “move ALL files into the optionals tab (esp and esm files).†I wasn’t sure whether an esm also counts as a plugin and only realized I should probably move everything when I got to the last lines of this Mod Installation and after reading the Readme of the Merged Mod Page ;) Running FNVLODGen Comment: Maybe add this line to this step at the beginning “Before this step one needs to run LOOT once to sort the plugins correctly, otherwise FNVLODGen will give an Error.†NCR Trooper Overhaul - Distributed Comment: LOOT recommends to clean this esp. (?) Interior Lighting Overhaul Mod was updated :) I myself performed the installation this way: In the new version there is a CP for Willow so maybe change this line: Make sure New Vegas Bounties I, New Vegas Bounties II, NV Interiors Project Combo Ed., D.E.I.M.O.S., and NV Willow are ticked and select [Next]. On the next two page leave everything unticked and select [Next]. No longer applicable, next click and the Nevada Step is already there. Make sure Nevada Skies - Weather Effects and YUP Patch is ticked, so select [Finish]. If still applicable you could maybe also explain why we should do this? “Move "Interior Lighting Overhaul - Ultimate Edition.esp" to the Optional ESPs box.†Possibly the reason is this (from Mods Readme: INTERIOR LIGHTING OVERHAUL - ULTIMATE EDITION - This file is a load order fix that meant to be loaded as low a possible in the load order.) Bashed Patch I was asking myself how to rebuild Bashed Patch after doing it the first time as described already in the guide? I always select all plugins in the right pane of MO. (some get deselected after making the Bashed Patch). Also I had to rewatch this Guide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1Es06MtAZM) before I finally found out that I have to tick and select the Bashed Patch Mod for the Profile I want to create a new Bashed patch for in the left pane of MO to make the whole “Auto copy Bashed Batch Procedure into the correct folder/Mod†work ;) What I had problems with: When wanting to create a NEW Bashed Batch for a profile I created by copying the STEP Base Mod Configuration the newly created Bashed Patch didn´t go into the override folder, it landed in the normal Data Folder inside the Steam FNV Folder. The docs got placed in the override though. After moving the Bashed patch from the data folder to the override next to the Docs Folder I then made the the new Bashed Patch Mod for the New Profile as described above and after that I Rebuild this Batched Patch again by selecting and ticking the Bashed Patch Mod in the left pane and again starting Wrye Bash from MO. Then it worked. I can´t really say whether I selected something wrong on the left side the first time I made the Bashed Patch. What is confusing is that in the new profile there also was a Bashed patch in the plugin list and it was selected even though for that Profile there is (naturally) no correct Bashed Patch Mod in the left Pane …. Final Comment Thanks again for writing the Guide and for reading this. Hoping for a great game ahead :) Greetings, Altaya -
Thanks very much. I tried the Beta-Version and could change all the options according to the recommendations. So far everything seems to go well while optimizing :)

Hi Step Team! Thanks for the great site and the Enhancement project in general! Just yesterday I dared to look at the DDSopt Optizimzation Process for the first time and read all the pages on the wiki for it while preparing my BSA files as reccomended there. Now I´d be ready to Process the textures from "Vanilla Extracted" to "Vanilla Optimized" which will take about 3 to 4 hours but there is one problem: In my DDSopt Window under Behave I am missing the 4 Entrys shown here in the second row of the rec. options to use. https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:DDSopt#Using_DDSopt I downloaded DDSopt from the officialpage as linked in the Wiki and exchanged the Ini with the one from this Wiki. I also tried the original ini but with that those menus are also missing. Or am I missing sth.? I searched for "Behave" here in the forums but couldn´t find anything like my problem right away. Is it safe to process everything now with the rest of the options set like recommended? THANKS in advance, greetings Altaya Edit: Fixed typo in title, argh ;)
