  1. Just to clarify -- there's no reason to run this if I already ran my textures through DDSOpt and my BSA through BSAOpt?
  2. OK I'll try the Afterburner Beta. Here's the recommendation from RealVision: Using MSI Afterburner or similar program in combination with the wrapper version d3d9.dll could cause CTD at gamestart! Use the new MSI Afterburner 3.0 Beta 9 or above. They decoupled the on screen FPS server from the overclocking utility. It is the FPS server that crashes the wrapper version of the ENB DirectX 9 dll. So you can use the wrapper version of ENB & MSI Afterburner at the same time. This is likely my problem, since I did have the FPS server running at the time.
  3. How can you accurately mod gammas and RGBs? All that depends on your monitor and lighting in the room. Seems like those type of tweaks are covered under "Make sure your monitor is properly calibrated."
  4. Here are the relevant details I can think of. Core i5-2500k stable at 4.5 GHz (yes, the whole rig has adequate cooling) Radeon HD 7850 2GB VRAM -- overclocked around 1100 MHz and also a small boost to the memory clock -- I did have MSI Afterburner running at the time, which could be the problem you mentioned All drivers updated to latest release (non-Beta) 8GB RAM Windows 7 Side question -- does my GPU overclock persist if Afterburner is not running in the background? I installed SR as closely as possible with the following modifications: Did not install any mod that requires DLC Deactivated .esp for Werewolf Mastery because I was getting a message that it required Dawnguard.esm as a master (even though this is not explicitly stated on the Nexus page IIRC) Deactivated .esp for Moonlight Tales because I got nervous about the Werewolf Mastery / Dawnguard situation Installed 1024 textures whenever possible since I only have 2GB VRAM Did not make any modifications to ENB since no recommendations were provided With ENB turned off, it seems to run fine. The FPS is 45+ but of course that's with 0 Anisotropic filtering with the ENB deactivated + recommended .ini settings. The lighting is noticeably bad so I would need to make other tweaks if ENB is simply not an option for me for some reason. Thanks guys for your help. Worst case I'll just go back to regular STEP but I really like the improvements in SR so I'd like to make it work.Â
  5. Nope. Launcher throws same error. When I run from MO, I get the Skyrim Uncapper pop-up, then nothing for a few seconds, then the Skyrim window (not adjusted yet for Borderless) then the error kicks in. EDIT: It's ENB related. I disabled ENB and it runs -- seems to be working fine i.e. I went right into Live Another Life. I installed the ENB per instructions. Version 0.178. Any thoughts on what might have gone wrong? Do I need to run the ENB Changer through MO? (I did not.) EDIT #2: Tried ENB Version 0.168. Now the game loads but it crashes whenever I use the bed in Live Another Life. It crashes on the load screen.
  6. I installed SR for the first time. I don't have the DLCs but I was very careful to not install anything that required them. Got to the end of the guide, went to Run SKSE from Mod Organizer, and I got the following Windows error: Problem signature:  Problem Event Name: APPCRASH  Application Name: TESV.exe  Application Version: 1.9.32.0  Application Timestamp: 51437ce5  Fault Module Name: StackHash_0a9e  Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0  Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000  Exception Code: c0000005  Exception Offset: 00000000  OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3  Locale ID: 1033  Additional Information 1: 0a9e  Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789  Additional Information 3: 0a9e  Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Read our privacy statement online:  https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=104288&clcid=0x0409 If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline:  C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt What's interesting is that I get this error even when I try to run Vanilla Skyrim / Skyrim or Vanilla Skyrim / SKSE. Where do I even begin troubleshooting this?Â
  7. OK, glad I asked. I did not understand that the optimizer could do damage. Thanks all.
  8. Is there any way to know which mods are causing the most strain on VRAM? For example if I'm blowing out my 2GB limit and it's killing my frame rate, where do I start in terms of scaling back? (Beyond 1k textures instead of 2k which I'm already doing)
  9. I'm rocking the following hardware: i5-2500k overclocked to 4.5 GHz Radeon HD 7850 2GH overclocked around 1100 MHz (+ memory overclock) 8GB RAM When I ran Core STEP (meaning mostly 1k textures) I was typically hitting around 1.3GB VRAM used indoors and 1.5-1.6GB outdoors. Perfectly stable though and framerate rarely if ever dropped below high 40s. Now I'm working through SR and obviously it's more demanding. I decided from the start to stick to 1k textures whenever possible given that Core STEP was already demanding. My question is -- do I have any hope of getting SR to run smoothly with this GPU? Or will I have to make serious concessions? Mods like Ultimate Lush Overhaul for example have me worried. Plus adding ENB to the mix. Is SR even feasible with less than 3GB VRAM?Â
  10. Disregarding the time investment -- is there any reason to NOT run all .dds files through DDSopt? They can't be made worse, right?
  11. Just rebuilt (built for the first time?) the bashed patch, and I got a little FPS boost. Maybe this is part of the development plan for 2.3 / transitioning to more technical details ala Skyrim Revisited, but I did not realize that bashed patch thing had to be done.Â
  12. Thanks. I didn't see the Crime: Alarm Distance option in Wrye Bash when I looked yesterday but I will check again tonight.Â
  13. I was able to upgrade from 2.2.5 to 2.2.6 without incident, though I did notice most of the issues already mentioned above. What is the deal with the Crime Radius mod? I did some Googling and it sounds like this can be addressed with an INI tweak in Wrye Bash, but I don't see the option. Does this require an update to Wrye Bash? I try not to update anything between releases without a reason. Suggestion going forward -- when you release a new version, include in the Change Log both changes from 2.2.5 to 2.2.6 AND the changes to the 2.2.5 change log since its release. I would have never known to go back to the 2.2.5 change log to see what had changed since its release. I assume most people only update on major releases and are only checking the most recent log.Â
  14. Thanks for the reply. Yea I'm familiar with how to OC safely. I tested it at increments of 100 MHz, and I understand what you mean about only going high enough to get the performance you want. (That's why I'm not OC'ing regularly now -- I've never needed it.) Any guidelines for telling the difference between benchmarks that indicate my GPU is tapping out, vs. ones that might be improved by OC'ing the processor? Or do I just have to do trial and error when I see the FPS drop?Â
  15. Hello, I am new to STEP but very excited about this project. Thanks to everyone who contributes to such a cool endeavor. My question is about benchmarking. I did the benchmarking as recommended in STEP 2.2.5 and I'm not sure about my GPU Load values. They are consistently at 98% or higher. Computer: Core i5 2500K 3.3 GHz (not overclocked currently but can take it up to 4.6 GHz with stability) Radeon HD 7850 2GB VRAM GDDR5 8GB RAM DDR3 Running on SSD (same as Windows install -- I only have the 1. Not in Program Files.) Res: 1080p I know the res is higher than recommended for Baseline, but I figured my rig is slightly higher than recommended too. Benchmark 1 -- Vanilla Ultra with HRDLC GPU Temp: 54 +/- 5.2 GPU Load: 98% +/- 1.2 Dedicated VRAM: 1229 MB +/- 104 System VRAM: 131 MB +/- 10 FPS: 51 +/- 7 Benchmark 2 -- After Launcher & INI Tweaks excluding those for ENB or EXTREME GPU Temp: 53 +/- 5.8 GPU Load: 98% +/- 1.4 Dedicated VRAM: 1253 MB +/- 109 System VRAM: 146 MB +/- 12 FPS: 48 +/- 7 Everything seems OK except the Load. Looking at other peoples' benchmarks, I see a lot of loads in the high 70/low 80s. I know my card is not very top of the line, but I figured it had the horsepower. Is it worth continuing, or am I going to see big performance drops once I started adding Mods because the load has nowhere to go? Thanks!
