ACCEPTED Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - DynDOLOD (by Sheson)
jprdrizzt replied to DoubleYou's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
All, I have finally figured why DynDOLOD was not working for me. As was pointed out previously, everyone's setup is slightly different. In my case the memory patch wasn't working as a result of SKSE not looking for it in the correct place. I followed STEP to the letter but I needed to add an argument to the executable in order for it to work. Now I am happy to report everything is working beautifully and DynDOLOD is truly gorgeous. Thank u for all the help. -

I have tested DynDOLOD following all guides available and still can not get it to work. I backed up and tried just using DynDOLOD with vanilla Skyrim, but same result. There are no errors in TES5Edit and I have increased all suggested settings a little at a time. There is no crash to desktop, it is just infinite (never ending) loading screen. I have ran the game perfectly without DynDOLOD active. I even tried installing DynDOLOD (per the instructions by the mod author) after the opening mission at Helgen, but still had same result. I understand that you are attempting to introduce a bit more advanced modding to STEP, but the STEP guide clearly says in its description: "Created by TheCompiler, STEP is a collaborative project with input from the modding community, technical volunteers, and project administrators. The goal is to provide tested and validated methods for establishing and maintaining an enhanced modded Skyrim. Thus, the Guide provides detailed, well-tested build instructions for a solid modding template. New modders can follow STEP explicitly, or more experienced modders may use it as general guide." This is a direct quote from the 2.9.2.1 project page, and it has been true for all the years I have been using this guide. Some of the statements made by others on the DynDOLOD posts simply do not hold true to what STEP has always been, and what I believed it to still be. As you can clearly see, it states that the instructions in the guide are detailed and well tested, however, as others have previously mentioned in regard to DynDOLOD this is simply not true. It also states that "New modders can follow STEP explicitly" which in the past has always held true, but again in relation to DynDOLOD is simply no longer true. I, and all the many people I have introduced the STEP guide to date would be very disappointed if nothing was done to improve the instructions around the DynDOLOD mod if it is truly as awesome as so many people claim it is (and every forum I have gone to as well). Not everyone is a modder and if the STEP guide is tilting more in that direction then that is truly sad to see. I have been serving in the USAF for the last 16 years and simply don't have the time to become a more invested modder. I, like so many others, rely on expert modders, such as so many of you, to come up with comprehensive guides that I can, with little to no effort, incorporate in to my games in order to garner the best gaming experience possible. I truly admire the work/time/effort that the DynDOLOD mod author (and all mod authors), as well as, the entire STEP team has put into making Skyrim so enjoyable so many years after it has been released. That is no small task. I also appreciate the assistance that some of you have offered regarding my problems with DynDOLOD. I am not out to insult anyone or cause a any problems. My intent was to simply provide some perspective on this particular mod (which again, by all accounts looks awesome) in the hopes that a more clear and decisive set of instructions might be created for those of us that are not as mod savvy, but truly love the STEP guide. However, I joined the STEP forums some time ago, in an attempt to better educate myself on the modding process. I have learned quit a bit, but again I just don't have the time to really sink my teeth into it. I envy those of you that do. Perhaps in 4 years when I retire from the military I will finally be able to. Until then I will continue to rely on those of you with far more experience in these matters. If I have offended anyone, I truly apologize. I will continue to work with the DynDOLOD mod as often as I can, and if I make any headway I will defiantly let everyone know. Thank you. -

I have reduced skyrim as you suggested and tried seeing at what point the issue begins. It may in deed have to do with memory but I am still at a lose as to how to fix it. According to the log files there isn't one particular mod that is causing the issue. Regarding your other comment, STEP has always done a great job of only including mods that require little to no tweaking during setup regardless of mods installed. DynDOLOD is the first mod I've seen (and I've been using STEP for years) that requires an unprecedented amount of work. This is the first time that STEP has failed to provide a detailed easy to use guide. Now I am not sure I would recommend this guide to anyone as this current build simply requires to much technical know how and time (assuming it is even possible) to setup. I'll keep working at it but I sincerely hope that someone on the STEP team comes up with a better solution as this is just ridiculous. Just read through the posts here and in other forums regarding DynDOLOD if you don't believe how difficult it is. At least for those of us without the knowledge of how to find/fix the problems regarding getting this mod to work. -

I have used memory block log but I don't know what it is I'm suppose to do with it. Nothing looks wrong with it. Also, since I am following the STEP guide exactly and nothing is mentioned in the guide regarding this you would think it shouldn't be a problem. The STEP guide in the past has always been fairly all inclusive. Sort of a one stop shop for Skyrim. -

I have been using the STEP guides for years now. I am even signed up as a member on the STEP site. I have rarely ran into any issues where the guide was not complete in its instructions (i.e. missing a step in the process) or where the instructions were incorrect for one reason or another. However, I can not get the DynDOLOD mod to work. With this mod unchecked everything works great. I have started from scratch with the STEP installation 5 times (following every single step exactly with zero additional mods, and using all recommended settings), I have used the DynDOLOD readme instructions for .nif files that might be causing a problem, I watched/checked for errors during the TES5Edit portions (to which there were none), I am not using any saved games (I have no saved games), I have watched all the tutorials/FAQ’s related to this mod, and I am still unable to figure out the issue. Here are the specs for my PC: Intel i7-3770 CPU @ 3.4GHz (Quad Core) GSkill 32GB 2800MHz Sapphire Vapor X R9 290X (8GB) Samsung EVO Pro 512GBx2 (raid 0) (Currently where Skyrim is installed) Seagate 2TBx2 (raid 0) 7200rpm 64MB Cache I am quit at a loss as to why I can’t get it to work. There are no errors, and the game doesn’t crash. It just sits on the loading screen. After about an hour I just hit alt+F4 and close it. I have read all the reviews regarding this mod, and would really hate to not be able to use it (especially since it is apart of the STEP guide which I have been using religiously for years). Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I am not an expert, and have not designed/helped design any mods. The only thing I am relatively good at is following your STEP guides, and making minor adjustments to the guide steps when something doesn’t quit work as the guide says it should. If you need more info please let me know, and I will do my best to provide it to you. Thank you. -
It looks sharp but the coloring doesn't seem to match the lighter grey colors of vanilla skyrim. From a distance the colors seem to all be that of the vanilla but then they shift to this mods color scheme as you get closer.
