Nope. But if you lower the density of each grass patch then it might start to look bad... this is of course subjective, so experiment away! You also have the grass distance to play with... even if you lower it a little bit then you still get some performance out of it. The only thing the mod does is to increase the size of the grass so that it looks as if it covers more ground.

Hmmm seems I was mistaken... had the problem with SkyTEST earlier... so this time I tried to start the game up after each tes edit section to verify that the game could start into the main menu.... when I get the patch done then it CTD... if I remove the patch and then try to start up again then it still CTD at menu. Guess I can try to just hardcode that patch change into the .esp instead of making the patch...
-
Really odd..... get a CTD at menu when I try to play with the SkyTEST-AM patch enabled.... If starting a game without it then there is no issue. Really odd.

Then just reduce all textures to 1k at once.... simpler and faster! :) -

If more animals are added you need to reduce their texture size in AV most likely. -
Trying to sort out STEP after TPC and NMM..

Lighting tags mean that a mod is overwriting another mod (+) or being partly overwritten (-). If the bolt is grey then the entire mod is being overwritten. This is mainly just textures from one mod overwriting a another mod due to the order in which you have placed your mods. The Red entires in the Data tab is just to remind you that an entry is in two places at once. All the base game .esm´s that you have cleaned should be in the overwrite directory. But the original .esm´s should still be in the skyrim Data dir. MO sees this and makes a note of it. Glad to hear that you got it all working. If you plan on testing it out "quickly"... just start from helgen, and do the main quest up until the first dragon kill. If you get 0-1 CTD during all of that then your game is considered "stable"... if you get more, then you most likely have some memory issues since script issues should not be around on the STEP setup. -
Guess someone did make the "too comprehensive" guide after all then! :) Thanks a lot for that EssArrbee!

Any preset can become a "high performance" one, if you just lower the quality and/or disable enough features. Try out the settings I have outlined on my preset description page, and play a bit with the ini tweaks concerning shadows and grass. If it still kills your FPS after that, then just ask some more and I will try to help as best I can.

I do not know how Neo does it, and I have not done any patches myself yet... When I check mod against another mod then I only do it if it makes sense.... like comparing a mod that alters food with one that only has weapon and armor changes would be completely unnecessary. in general when you load in a mod to clean it then you see what it includes.. and then you can deduce what you need to compare it with when you have looked at others.

In most cases the mod and Skyrim.esm will always match since every mod author has skyrim! But there might be some changes based on recent patches to the game, in which case the update.esm should contain the new values. As far as i understand that anyways. Where small conflicts can arise is with the DLC that the mod author might not have, and then some entries that are altered in the DLC are not there at all. Most mod authors do not seem to make their mod compatible with the unofficial patches right from the getgo, so there is normally stuff that needs to be sorted out. In the case of your follower mod there... then the first seems to be scripts relating to if she die, and the other just skill values. The skill values I do not see any issues with you just copying over... after all the only difference ingame would be that she is more or less powerful. The other with scripts I do not really know... I guess you can try it out and make a backup, then try to kill her and see what happens! ;) Also in case it is not very obvious, I am no expert in this field yet! I am only just starting to do all the edits on my own now! So I am properly learning as much as you are here! :)

Load in a mod and the official .esm´s Check the mod for entries that are not green. Look at what type of entry it is and then determine if it needs replacing. Next do the same for the unofficial patches and the mod. Some are very obvious... like if the mod has a conflict with the unofficial patch in terms of which sound should play when hitting with a weapon. As for a general guide then that would be too comprehensive... it is a matter of learning what the various entries mean and then by experience try to do it yourself and see what happens. Neo´s edits are an excellent guide on how to do it. You just have to actually stop and up see what you are doing instead of just copy pasting though the guide.

I guess it is rig dependent... Since the motherboard does play a very large role when it comes to how effective the CPU communicates with the RAM etc. I have tried out all the threaded options for skyrim without any noticeable gains or losses in performance. As for disabling hyperthreading entirely.. then that is just not an option for me. I like my hyperthreading for other things, and if I did not want it I would have saved the money and just bought a core i5 instead of a core i7. Also most benchmarks I have seen have shown no noticeable drop in performance on the core i7 models compared to the core i5´s In fact most of the time they perform a little bit better as I recall. But again that is game dependent... as for programs that are not games, then the difference is more obvious in favor of the core i7´s.

Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback

Yup... I am not qualified either to comment on what goes on under the hood. But I am entirely sure that the AI actually does work in different ways with DUEL on.... however if we can get a mod that does the combat without bloat then all the better. Some of my only freezes atm are during combat so this could very well be part of the cause. -
Hehe if you knew how long I spent on my preset staring at fires..... It is just one of those things where you accept that you can only do one of two things. A: Accept the middle road. B: Remake the textures so they actually fit inside your preset. Followed up by a nice trip to the CK to make sure that every fire light source use similar values! I am still not entirely happy with my fires at all times of the day, and during every weather. But I know it would be a monumental task to actually try to solve the problem entirely!

Good that you have stress tested at some point. But how long ago was that ? OC do cause the hardware to degrade faster regardless of cooling, so it could just be because of time. But again any stress test should show if this is the case. Also when you run with papyrus logging you stress the game engine even more making it more unstable... so it is detrimental to have it on at all times! A fairly easy way to see if your CTD´s or freezes are memory related is to just disable all pure texture mods and go! Hence not mods like wet and cold, or frostfall which include some of their own textures. If your issues go away then it is most likely memory related, if not then it is most likely script/mod list related. (Assuming your hardware checks out fine.) For combat specific issues, try to disable DUEL, Enhanced blood, and Burn freeze shock effects. These are the ones that play the most vital role with combat. Outside of the sounds mods, which you say you already have excluded. Also do you know how little time we actually spend on playing the game ? :D Nobody has really been doing any sort of meaningful testing of SR in its current shape, let alone the SkyRe extension.

Man... we really need to make a rule that we only update Apachii natural textures once a week! That mod has the most silly update schedule ever, considering the size of the mod! :D -
Okay I am going to just try to carefully ask if you have done Memtest or a similar Full stress test on your rig to verify that your OC is really REALLY stable ? Since you are running with overclocked hardware, and you are reporting random stuff that does not work one day, then work the next. This is a clear sign of some sort of hardware issue. It could very well be that the only change from one day to the next is the tolerance level of the hardware. If could be that it was too hot when you tested, and then the next day when you test again then it is within the limits again, but then gets unstable as you play. Also I do not know which specific type of dominator you use, but if it is one of the OC ones then that could very well be the issue all on its own. OCing RAM is almost NEVER worth it. But again Memtest or some other stress test utility should bring up errors if that is the case. The same if you use any of the BIOS OC settings for that Motherboard.

In the ingame GUI. go down to LIGHTSPRITE -> Intensity and curve. Higher curve means darker, higher intensity speaks for itself. Just keep in mind that lightsprites cover almost all fires in the game... and if you reduce it to make that single table good, then most other fires will not. So it is a compromise solution, or get a mod that alters how that table looks. I think we have one in SR actually that affects candles and how they glow... that might be the reason. Will have to look into that.
-
Think it is just a part of the design.... almost ALL mods would have this structure... AV being the only one (that I know off) that is the exception to the rule. Also Solist... if you reduce the normals maps to 1k you get more then those 40Mb! The visual impact is there on mammoths, bears etc. so you might want to leave those out. But for the tiny critters like foxes and rabbits etc. there is no real issue... it is not like you stand staring and fight those all the time. And they are everywhere in the wilds! If I ever get any memory issues I know they are the first to get their textures reduced to 1k as well... since I just do not want to have super sharp textures on tiny critters compared to many other things.

Sometimes the injector can give or take more FPS so at least you tried that! If you got 45-50 without ENB on then it would be unlikely that you would be able to run with every effect on without going below 25... Considering that you have a rather old computer then I also guess its an old CPU. In that case I would suggest that you look at reducing the CPU load. Try to reduce the shadow quality, and the amount of grass etc. All of this gives a bit more since less stuff have to be rendered. For ENB specific performance tweaks I do have a small quick and dirty guide in the description page of my ENB preset. They are universal for all presets... so it is not only something that works for mine.Â
-
This is true of course. But that means that you are only going to use stuff like altering the color of a texture... Anything that changes how a texture looks needs it own normal map or it will just look silly.Â
-
It have been months since I had the issue, so perhaps I have forgot a bit. But as I recall then no matter what you do then it wont do anything unless the folder structure is correct. I remember doing it with the same settings that worked for SRO for example, but not for AV. Just putting them all in a folder called textures solved it....
-
It is because of the folder structure you are using! I had the same issue. The folder structure needs to be \textures\... in order for it to work properly apparently. Hence why it is not an issue for most mods since they have it like that.Â

Trying to sort out STEP after TPC and NMM..
Aiyen replied to Uncumber's question in General Skyrim LE Support
The "Disable automatic updates on steam" is only required so that you do not suddenly one day start the game and meet an error that SKSE cannot start due to a wrong version of skyrim being used.... also in general mods are only compatible in the version of the game they are made for. The reverting skyrim to pristine article is about what I mentioned... as long as you do not delete all the .bsa from the data folder then you will have a rather small download when you revalidate on steam. This is because all the vanilla textures, etc are all packed up in the .bsa archives. Also all the mods you have downloaded are in archive form somewhere... just keep those and then get MO and install them manually in the order STEP recommends. So I guess in list form it would be like this 1. Make sure all your downloaded mods are archived, hence in .rar format somewhere that is not the skyrim directory. 2. Uninstall everything from NMM, and then delete everything but the .bsa archives from the data folder. 3. Install MO, and set it up so that you can start a vanilla game with it! Just make a profile called vanilla. 4. Get BOSS WB etc. what you need installed and links made in MO so they work. 5. Create a new profile called STEP, and start to add mods in the order STEP suggests. Remember to test out the game as you go! Sorting with BOSS before you start etc. If you get CTD´s at start then it is most likely because you have a mod that requires a master you either do not have, or it is in the wrong place in the load order. Also if you can stand the wait it would ideally be best to just reinstall skyrim all over to make sure you have an entirely pristine install to begin with! But if your internet is too slow for that then the above should suffice. -
It it because each candle gets to act as a separate light source I think... then they add up. Especially the lightsprite that candles have add up. This combined with daytime settings can make them stand out really badly. If you look closely then it is the same everywhere there are more candles in close proximity.
