Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback
Solist replied to Neovalen's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
Neo, the below (first instruction under "More Interactive Items") seems redudant partially: With the user Copying as an override from Dawnguard.esm into MII[Dawnguard].esm, the final line for XCLW - Water Height is already there as the copy from the override (value=0.00000). Is there a reason to do this seperately? -

@Neo - just a quick typo I found, to avoid download confusion for users. Currently the guide shows: The nonRW version is actually 2.0a on Nexus. The version used in the guide, w/Riverwood is just 2.0. So it should read: -

Ahh yeah my bad, I read your post wrong. That's what I do, side-by-side. I've actually got a unique setup in that I have two identical laptops and I do my comparisons on them next to each other with one version running the guide exactly, and the other as my tester to look at new textures (i.e. SeriousHD update), etc. -

Neo noted in his updates last night that he would review SeriousHD as soon as he had the time, but that it would take some effort to do compares on all of the new textures. I think, and Neo correct me if I'm wrong, but from previous comments the goal right now is to get the Dragonborn update for SR finished with all of the updated mods that didn't deviate too far from pre-DB DLC versions. Ultimately, we all want to play a stable game ASAP right? But we're doing this at Neo's expense of time and effort - of which again, I don't think any one of us can ever say thank you enough for. In any case back to the question, knowing how Neo has updated this in the past I would assume that he's going to continue working on getting this release as close to finished/stable and updated for the latest DLC as possible and then will go back and evaluate the mega eff-ton of new mods and major updates that have come out and we've all been discussing for the past few weeks. That's not to say Neo won't get a wild hair and decide to do the SeriousHD review sooner, but for now I would recommend sticking with the previous version as that's what the guide is working from now. Once Neo has time to review we'll all be excited to see what steps he takes with the new textures. @Neo - I hope I didn't speak too much for you here, just trying to help field some of the questions being lobbed your way that I think a few of us might know the answers to. Feel free to tell me to shut up at any time! :) -

Agreed. This thread is becoming the catchall for everything. I'm all for splitting out threads into other discussions that relate to SR users/testers/etc. -

As others have already said, trying to resume a lvl40 save in the latest version of Skyrim running DLCs, is problematic enough if you have used mods in the past. Now add to that trying to use them in a heavily customized, arguably one of the most hardcore and indepth customized versions of Skyrim (Neo's attention to detail and organization is second to none), is a recipe for disaster. I've seen this a lot, folks frustrations with the idea of having to go start a character anew after heavily modding a new Skyrim install. As justjr stated though, this is historically the case for all Bethesda games that run this engine and unfortunately there isn't a surefire way around it. Truth be told there is so much great new content out there in the vanilla game, plus all of the wonderful mods and tweaks provided by Skyrim Revisted, that you would be robbing yourself of the SR experience by picking up with a character who is lvl40. Take this as an opportunity start a brand new character and see Skyrim through Neovalen's lens to experience all it has to offer. It really is an amazing time. As for your hardware questions, others covered it but I'll add a couple bits myself: 1. SSDs for your game installs are fantastic if you can afford them. I recently rebuilt my two gaming laptops and I know run all of Steam and other games off the SSD along with the OS, and just keep my picture/music/etc. data on the other drive. The difference has been astounding and I won't go back to non-SSD for gaming after a few weeks with this new setup. It's great! 2. Memory - if you have 8GB of RAM already installed that's about all you are going to need from a gaming perspective, adding any more than that provides no additional benefit. 3. VRAM - this is one of the single biggest upgrades you can make for your gaming experience. Going from a <=1GB VRAM card to something that offers 2GB->4GB provides an entirely new game experience. Albeit at a cost and of course, the technical feasibility (laptop vs desktop and upgradable video cards). If you are starting to max out your VRAM, others above have already put forward viable solutions to reduce your required VRAM that should improve the experience. Also, note that Neovalen using the MAX textures and options in his install and guide, make sure that when you are selecting your mod downloads you go for smaller versions (i.e. 1024 vs. 2048/4096) - this will help greatly. -

Has anyone else using Mod Organizer noticed this before? Updated to the latest version of WATER (1.6a), and upon clicking the download from MO to install I get the following 2 error windows: 1. Installation Failed - Input string was not in a correct format 2. MO Error - installation failed (errorcode 5) Likely something to do with the meta/xml files from MO, but since I've only switched over to MO from NMM prior to doing a few Skyrim Revisited installs this is the first I've seen it. Played a bit with version numbers in the meta file to no avail. Any thoughts are appreciated. -

I have no plans to use summer edition. I prefer a more vanilla like look.My thoughts as well, looking at the screens it's too...I dunno, happy/fantastical/doesn't fit Skyrim for me. Definitely check out the updated Serious HD Retexture Skyrim. Doing some side by sides and I'm digging some of his new work. -

I'll take a look tonight on these.Just did a look at the new Serius HD Retexture Skyrim and there's a lot of new stuff here, not covered by SRO - looks like he's added quite a bit. Worth a look for sure. Vurt also updated SFO today with a new Summer Edition, looks like he's added a lot of new stuff there as well. Wondering what your take is on going with 1.77 vs 1.76b? -

One other edit, from: Actually, the selected options of the DLC/HRDLC .esm/.esp files does transfer to the new Skyrim Revisited profile assuming you clicked the "Save" button after selecting them when finishing the Vanilla Skyrim profile. Perhaps adding to click Save, before copying the profile to create Skyrim Revisited eliminates this step. Just a thought. -

Hey Neo, just a quick typo I found to be fixed under "Configure the Creation Kit": That second equal sign ("==") should be removed. -

Yep, this exactly. The mod author's instructions on the Nexus are rather confusing as they really apply only to the full package. Just load this up as an EXE in MO as Neo instructs for the others and you're off to the races. ATTK will still load SKSE when it launches Skyrim via MO. -

True his instructions are nebulous but the only file in the "light" archive is a installer that you simply give your Sky rim directory to. (Similar to BOSS/Wrye) So I'm not 100% sure how I can make that clearer? Maybe I'll write an extra line in the setting up executables section. Maybe just a simple, ignore the author's installation instructions and once the file is in your Skyrim directory no further setup is required? -

@Neo I noticed, happily(!), that you've added ATTK (Light) to your latest revision of SR. One thing you may want to add in here is the specific install instructions since SR uses Mod Organizer. If you read the authors instructions, it can lead to some confusion as he doesn't clarify when he is talking about Light vs. v5.1. This is the part I'm referring to: I was able to figure it out on my own but with the level of detail you have in your guide for setting up the other tools, it felt like ATTK instructions were a bit nebulous/lacking compared to the rest. Just some feedback, take it as you will good sir. -

In regards to merging optional files, for the most part I have found with SR that merging Neo's optionals into the base mod works fine in most cases. In a few instances I set them up as a seperate mod for testing purposes, or if they're holdovers from STEP not in SR (blurry screen blood for example). When updating mods via MO, always replace the one currently installed so you have the new files only from the mod and then run any customizations on the updated mod per SR instructions. As for the rest, Neo is your man to answer; as well as the one to correct me if I'm mistaken on any of what I have here. -
The Dragonborn Comes In Febuary
Solist replied to Neovalen's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
So here's a question, if we're starting a new character it seems like one would be better off just keeping the DLC disabled until your character is ready to head over into the new content. Right? I plan on playing the story and doing my usual explore, explore, explore, take in the existing DLCs and then do Dragonborn last on this new character. Given that's a couple weeks of playtime, it would be safer to leave Dragonborn disabled or does it not really matter since I won't be over in that region? -

Yeah I downloaded the files here at the office, but I haven't gone in to take a look. I'm going to just leave the DLC disabled until I can test impact and see what stats come back. Dagnabit...I only got my perfect SR install up and running last night! Oh well I'm glad Dragonborn is out! -

@Neo - when using MO, do we need to go through and delete all .esp files from mods, or only those you specifically mention to delete? Since MO unpacks them, are they only active if checked in the ESP tab? Thanks in advance. -

@Neo: in your opinion, are the textures from SRO still superior to those found in SkyrimHD and SeriousHDRetexture? Given by the simple fact that you still use them in your modded version of STEP I am going to assume that yes, this is the case but I thought I'd ask anyway. I'm simply interested in your take on SROs textures vs the ones STEP has moved forward with that appear to still be receiving updates. I have the SRO files, with the 1.6 update so I got lucky, just happened to download them the day they released...but before I installed thought I would ask this little question that was nagging at me. Thanks in advance! -

Been using 12.5 since about 5 minutes after he released it. I just started this install on a fresh machine, definitely using v12.5. -

Yeah, the ESPs are all in my overwrite folder. I must have missed this in an earlier part of the guide or just from being new to this; when I use TES5Edit to make a change, do I need to grab the .esp every time from the overwrite folder and move it into the respective mod folder? Thanks much. *edit* Also, I just noticed 3 main ESMs in that overwrite directory that I thought weren't supposed to replace the mains in Skyrim/Data. In the MO/overwrite remain Dawnguard.esm, HearthFires.esm and Update.esm. They're all slightly smaller that the ones in Skyrim/Data...should I be replacing those as well? Thanks again. -

Neovalen - currently going through the install portion of mods and on two so far I've received a Flag in Mod Organizer I'm not familiar with and wanted to make sure they were to be expected. For both: - Yngol Barrow Button Fix - Better Skill and Quest Book Names These both have italized names, slightly grayed out and when moused over read "[mod name] contains no esp/esm and no asset (textures, meshes, interface, ...) directory". The flag itself is a red X that says when moused over "No valid game data". Is this a normal behavior for some mods or do I need to go back and fix something/this shouldn't happen? Thanks!
