  1. Not sure if you're not aware or just trolling tbh... You have SFO regular which is one of the most performance itnensive mods (if not, THE most) available. WATER, SMIM... And you add a ton of NPCs through mods as well as a very large amounts of scripts which I think not even the most experienced modders with super systems here run at the same time. We're trying to determine your problem and your rig is just not up to par to run a mods list like this. Probably not what you want to hear at all but this is the way I see it. sfo huh?i actually never thought it could cause lags since the trees use vanilla texture but yes that could be the problem because before even installing WATER and SMIM(vanilla texture and meshes version) (which i installed at last) i still experienced combat lag....and all the posters are saying that script running mods are bad...well somewhere i heard that when there are too many script mods ONLY the scripts get lagged(you know slow trigger before script starts) but it shouldn't stutter the entire game...but i could hear wrong besides i am not running script intensive mods like skyre, frostfall, wet and cold, footprint which are ACTUALLY considered script intensive and my save is 20 mb after 70 hours which i dont think is bloated but yes i think my CPU is getting bottlenecked by my GPU because my GPU cant handle all the polygons added by SFO.. okay guys i will test it out without SFO and report back if my CPU doesnt spike during a fight... and yes i have the stable ugrids and my setting is at default....5 i guess? since i never tried modifying ugrid.. though 1 thing i should tell you guys that i had a BETA version of EFF mod when starting a new save but after playing 50 hours i switched to AFT...now there are EFF errors in papyrus logs but they start whenever i fire up the game not in fights only Yes, it is very much recommended to chose a setup for a gameplay and not change it anymore til you are done. Mod Organizer helps there since you can setup different profiles. Or if you want to test mods, make a backup of the gamesave before installing and if you decide, it's not it, you have your backup to retreat to. (And yes, testing mods with an existing game usually means you 'lose' your progress since install, but you avoid Papyrus going wild). Do you have a savegame without Papyrus errors ? If sfo uninstall did help, yay you. If not, load a save before EFF Beta and check.
  2. Yes, shiny male-bodies. If i gonna stutter in crowded area's i gonna try the suggested malebody_1_msn.dds to R5G6B5. Will report back.
  3. So, your exterior bandits are a problem, as i understood. Skyrim Flora Overhaul.esp=1 <---- disable this one first. Go battle and tell me, if it worked. Flora/Trees/LOD texture mods are a culprit on graphic cards, even newer and stronger ones. Convenient Horses - Faster Sprint.esp=1 - believe it or not, this could make exterior stutter/lag even if you are NOT on horseback. Try as 2nd option to disable this one and test. If that didn't help, start a new game with your current setup and check if you still have those problems. If not (after extensive testruns please), then your current savegame has a problem most likely. Then perhaps it is sensible to enable Papyrus log and go again for ingame bandit-battles with your current savegame til it freezes a few. That should give you a hint, where to look. Enable Papyrus logging: [Papyrus] bEnableLogging=1 bEnableTrace=1 bLoadDebugInformation=1 find the log next to your savegame-folder somewhere. Did you add or uninstall mods frequently or lately and if yes, which ones ? Could be, your problem is simply a corrupt savegame due too many installations/uninstallations. Ah, and: did you open your rig lately (for dusting or the like)? Might check the CPU attachment and see if the cooling-paste or pad are still in place as it should be. Consider sensible board/cpu driver updates too. And if you did update your nVidia driver lately (knowing there was a beta-release a 2 weeks ago), i hope very much you did a clean update, otherwise that could be a problem (considering nvidia's screwed up installers etc.). Don't install all the extras via custom installation and tick the box below (yep, it kicks your profiles, back them up first, eventually), install only the basic drivers and no 3-D vision except you watch movies and use applications requiring 3-D glasses. How to remove/update your graphic drivers effectively, quite frankly, it's the most effective method i did stumble over in the last 6 years. Bit a hassle, easy enough though: https://www.overclock.net/t/1150443/how-to-remove-your-nvidia-gpu-drivers I am amazed your mod-setup runs on your system. A dual core and THAT graphic card ... was the **** once, wasn't it? =) Well, fairly, some credit goes to the former posters, they are quite right. Your rig isn't really anymore for a heavy setup like that (you have quite some intense mods, some using alot of scripts too - which indicates cpu troubles ---> scripts = math = cpu + consider the natural 3.1gb limitations of the game-engine). Have you installed Stable uGridsToLoad? --> https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/41592/? What is your uGridsToLoad in your Skyrim.ini set to? Do not use more then value 5. Perhaps you revert to a pristine Skyrim.ini and start with STEP alterations and then add carefully one by one your present setting, testing each change ingame with bandit-battles. If you use ENB, disable that for the time being. If that alone already cured your problem - don't play with ENB.
  4. Nay, as Allsunday stated. If you're using SSME on 1.6 SKSE already, leave it that way until 1.7 goes officially out of Alpha. I've found the Alpha SKSE version stable and the 2 additions into skse.ini are easy. No CDT's at character creation anymore (I test-tried to push the limit of how many hair models i can load without precachekiller ... apachii all options + Superior Lore friendly works now with standard settings - before, a sure cdt with precachekiller installed!)
  5. I've optimized with the patch (2.7) the 2 texture mods (Better Embers, lose files and Hires plants and herbs, both coming with some 2k-4k textures). From what I saw ingame, the patch worked fine, at least no noticeable errors. But i did not use the integrated 7-zip batch as i do repack them with my own 7-zip application (settings as recommended). Based on the benchmarking i did (Vanilla as delivered by Steam and then optimized Vanilla), the VRAM usage lowers around 100mb with optimized Vanilla textures exactly done as in the DDSopt guide described (not the quickstart one, mind). What I've found more interesting than that is the fluctuation of VRAM usage. Not optimized, the VRAM usage jumped between 720 and 930 around, 855 average (on my 1GB nVidia). With optimized Vanilla textures and InI tweaks the fluctuation had reduced and went stable between 730 and 760, average 752. FPS was stable in both cases (44 and 43 average) - but optimized no stutters at all (stuttering tested with coc Whiterun, running up to Dragonsreach and coc Sovngarde01 - nice big, open interior with straight lines of view through the whole building). I'd be adding to the Vanilla DDSopt guide (at the bottom, to avoid ppl asking in the forum or having to dig too much) that the 'load-order' of the just optimized textures in the left pane of MO should be: STD Dawnguard Hearthfires Dragonborn HRDLC 1 HRDLC 2 HRDLC 3 and for the sake of it: backup 1) Skyrim - textures.bsa, 2) HRDLC1-3 .bsa including .esp - then remove them from the Data folder (and only those). If you need to validate your Skyrim through Steam, copy-paste them back in to the Data folder (faster than have Steam redownloading 5.6 GB), remove after validation again. Don't forget to TES5Edit-clean the validated DLC's. If i might add my basic thoughts about graphic improvements. I do run a 1GB graphic card, because originally, my computer wasn't built for gaming but for CPU intense applications (only occasionally a game until i got hooked on Skyrim... dammit!), meaning, my system is capable of doing a lot of math, less rendering. I plan to upgrade the graphic card but til then, I decided to setup Skyrim newly and the graphic improvements according to the gpu specifications, the weakest part of my system. Basically, if you run a limited system you have to decide what you want: Graphics or Gameplay (pretty much, sightseeing or play-the-game). If you decide the latter, go for 1k textures whenever the mod of your preference offers, some might be even 512 only (holy cow, who needs cows with 2k-4k textures? You mostly only pass by anyway...). Might select another mod that offers similar/same content with already optimized 1k textures (pref. loose files), instead . Be sensible about these categories: flora/trees/herbs, LOD, Hair/Body-textures. Use STEP XCE as a replacer for all NPC's - use your UNP/CBBE if you want, but only for your own character. Don't load 250 hair models .. seriously - not even with Sheson's Patch (or SKSE 1.7.0 alpha), preCacheKiller and Enboost on top of that, just select what you really need and keep the space free for gameplay or other texture stuff you are fond of. Still granted you have chosen the play-the-game-option. Flora/trees/herbs and LOD are a culprit for gpu's, even if 2GB VRAM, either don't use these mods at all or add them one by one while testing (take the same route, coc whiterun or similar, run to a pre-defined spot [without altering anything in the console!], might do the full run from city to city until you crash one way or other - the earlier you crash, the more unstable is your setup). Consider stuttering. You might never crash but stutter from A to B. Disable texture beginning with LOD/Trees etc. depending on your preferences - til you don't stutter or you reach a level you think playable. Use your brain and decide, what your absolutely-have-to's are for nice/acceptable graphics. Then consider, if one of the disabled is absolutely needed for your taste and if so, go hassle with DDSopt. Quite frankly, for testing I do add graphics first, then the Core stuff, then (at a different profile in MO) the stuff for (example) Thief playthrough. And testing the very same things ingame after each, including benchmarking. Body-Textures are something i avoid to optimize - period. I do not use UNP and the like either, though. Reason: I am simply too lazy (or inexperienced) to figure that one out and quite frankly, I want to spare me the hassle with testing. Last, I rather like to have enough space in the 3.1 GB limitation for some script intense mods, extra quests (like Vilja companion or Cerwiden, Dual Sheath Redux, CoT, Lanterns of Skyrim, vast Quest mods like Wyrmstooth, ThirteenOranges's mods, Falskaar etc.). Using texture mods will limit you there, noticeably. If you have chosen the sightseeing-option eventually to a point you cannot play any. And really, every game-engine has it's limitations. They won't do miracles. Don't constantly 'stresstest' while playing your usual game if you do not need to. If you do, you might burn your lovely system to a brick in relatively short time. In the end, with around 144 mods currently installed for my Thief play (including texture stuff/patches), my graphic card runs at it's limit. Very much so. But mostly smooth as far I got with my new Thief. Perhaps the gpu burns up and I finally get around to buy a 2GB one, and guess what... i won't change much even then, except perhaps adding one or two graphic details I'd like to have but dismissed due my 1GB limitation. =) ps. sensible driver updates and the task manager are your performance-friends - as well Steam offline-mode, cutting internet line and disabling your antivirus real-time-guard/firewall. Don't forget to turn everything on again once you decided to go sleep/shower/clean-up-the-mess-in-the-kitchen -finally- and shut down Skyrim xD.
  6. It worked fine for me, just give your system a lot of time (took almost 4 minutes to open it with NCC). It's not only a RAM problem, it's also your CPU (btw.). Opening that file might make you run out of RAM, but how fast you do run out of RAM depends (next other factors) also on how fast your CPU can do the 'math'. And how your mainboard is able to do the 'communication' between the two. And with what your OS is occupied else. So, shortly: 1) make sure you disable windows aero for installing and optimizing mods. 2) if you are installing mods, download all in advance and copy-paste important infos into a .txt on your desktop, cut your internet - close all applications not needed (like browser, skype, dropbox, any other messenger, facebook whatever you have running, disable your real-time-Antivirus/Maleware-Software, eventually the Firewall) and you have ALOT more ressources to process MO or DDSopt I am aware of the limitations of the software itself, but as mentioned, only files greater then 2gb should make troubles. Rest really is your system's limitations. Sometimes a new-start helps too. (clear cache etc.) The other solution is here: https://stepupdates.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/this-is-guide-for-those-of-you-using.html Or this one: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Mod_Organizer#tab=Installing_Mods Scroll to NMM Method, and be careful to follow each step. Perhaps, you help with reporting back your experience with this method xD.
  7. I've been testing around a bit with my system and speed. I run a 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate, 8gb RAM, i-5 3.5Ghz, and a nVidia GTX 550 Ti (1 GB RAM... aye, gonna replace that one soon with a 2GB GPU), SSD for Gaming, 7200rpm HD 500gb divided for OS and working platine. Defrag helps a little with speed but what definitely worked was updating my board drivers ... duh! Last test turned out to be 12.53 time for the 2_....whatever.bat. I used the 2.64 version for testing since I did start with that one. You may want to check your guide once more: I am about to optimize 2 selected texture mods, but since i really have no idea about settings for DDSopt, I relay on the pictures in your guide. Unfortunately, the ones in the Mod Optimizing Tab are 'bad links'. I noticed, you did update the guide and kicked the V1-V3 in the Vanilla Section and might did that for the Mod tab too, but the new pictures aren't there.
  8. @Octopuss - i shouldn't have bumped it huh ! I am not sure if they're hidden Gems, but on my next playthrough with a total new mod setup i gonna use these two: Character Creation Overhaul https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/21587/? Enemy AI Overhaul https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40491/? This one though, is definitely a Gem, if not hidden either =) Dynavision <3 yes ! https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12525/?
  9. Thought to pump =) Aye, it's another Texture mod but - an amazing one. It uses the same name as the one in STEP Core, but it's not the same modder, it's even a fairly new one and parts of his work has still to be considered WIP. But, to say the least, it looks amazing ingame (mountains still under construction, not perfect - i take it xD). He has his stuff uploaded optimized 1k and 2k, DDSopted - STEP moderate so to speak - so no fussing necessary over that one. I use it together (all his 3 mods) with Serious HD Riften, SMIM and some few Clutter/MISC textures taken by different mods. The work is done with ENB in mind but does work without just as good. Refer to comment section for more info. Link to his landscape 'Skyrim Realistic Texture Overhaul': https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/38539/? Some of 'essential' mods i use at every play: RWB - Realistic Wolf Behavior. Unfortunately, i don't seem to find it anymore on Nexus but it is on Steam Workshop. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=94567644 Places - by thirteenoranges. Comes with Hearthfire- and non-Hearthfire-Versions. Steam Workshop only. She also has uploaded a couple of interesting Quests, which Sea of Ghosts is one of the popular ones. Roleplayers who are going the Knight/Fighter path will love her Pit Guild. I am not sure of compability with other huge mods on Nexus, will need to figure that one out based on your personal mod-settings. They work with STEP Core as far I can say (i do not use all Core mods, though). Link to her Workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/id/ThirteenOranges/myworkshopfiles/?appid=72850 Smithing Perks - Improved Vanilla Perk Tree. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/33959/? Makes much more sense to me o.o check it out, idk if it's on the STEP list, but surely, wouldn't be wrong to have it there. Khjajiit Speak (only if i play Khjajiit, ofc) as mentioned already above (seriously, that one needs Kudos and a STEP entry =): https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/14513/? On playthrough as a Knight/Fighter/Templar (surely for any other playthrough as well) i do highly appreciate Cerwiden as a follower (if certainly not flawlessly working - needs some workarounds, but they are nicely documented in the posts etc. sections). I simply like her comments (even her coffee one and guess what, me being coffee addicted.. hell yes, let's have one *pauses game and goes to kitchen...) and they can be configured regarding frequency. She is basically a Healer, Mage. But don't have her healing only ... she's gonna tell you what she thinks about that one ... even more so, if you expect her to do miracles - plainly, she refuses to pick you up from the floor and rather enjoys the *game reload* consequences - evil her. She is fun, most of the times - especially if she decides to run around naked (here you have to refer to the workarounds mentioned...). Even though she requires some digging and extra-work, she is definitely worth it! Link: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/20787/? Ah, and since i do not like huge follower mods, i combine Cerwiden with kuertee's Simple multiple Followers (works flawlessly): https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31581/? Whistle, aye, yes. Bloody damn you horse, seriously - where are you ?? freaking... - censored - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/36701/? now, only need to find something to have it behave like a real horse and RUN from that dragon over there... grrrr, ever seen a freaking horse attacking a dragon that spits fire ?? Warhorses, maybe, but mine's not remotely one o.o Since non of the mods i skimmed through were to my liking, i fired up CK and made my own solution. Cowardly and Essential, aye, might be a cheat but damn you horse -.- goatk player houses. Vanilla, mostly. Immersive. Nicely done, not too much/huge and uses the Vanilla house-buy-system. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/users/3729223/?tb=mods&pUp=1 With Hjerim you might wanna figure out when to tick it to load exactly, though - if using Neutral Hjerim, it should work fine if you load it before finishing related Quest lines: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12558/? As with all modification to Vanilla player houses, you want to install either before you buy the house, or better, when you start a new game. Note: Works with/without DG & DW, but Hearthfire is required.
  10. Thank you for your answer =) Yes, cmd = command window which opens if running that .bat, the Normal Maps Folder remained empty. I do use Notepad++, and Bethesda can't obviously decide how to name their Hearthfire. At the end, after trying again, I figured out what the problem was. Perhaps it is a good idea to add to your guide (for impatient ppl and cupcakes like myself... ), that processing those bat-files could take more than 30 minutes if rare (i suspect). It is mentioned in the guide and the readme, it could take a while for the .bat to be executed on non-ssd harddrives. I plainly closed the cmd window too early for the .bat to finish it's work in the first attempts (giving roughly 15 minutes time before doing so, though). The successful attempt showed 32.41 minutes on the timer. Surprised me a bit, even if non-ssd, the harddrive I used is a 7200rpm, shouldn't take that long. Perhaps, running a defrag before doing this helps with speed, i will test that. However, thank you for your time!
  11. Well, this topic quite fits my problem. 1) File structure is fine, folder and file amount too, is on D:/Working... 2) up to 2_Pre-optimization_2.64.bat everything works as intended. then I ran the .bat (ofc admin) and cmd did this: I get the output in the Working-Tree as intended except for the Vanilla Normal Maps folder which remains empty. My own troubleshooting: 1) checked spelling errors, all fine 2) re-extracted all but HRDLC files (since that went fine) and ran 2_Pre-optimization_2.64.bat again, didn't work. 3) deleted full Working folder, extracted all .bsa's according guide again, ran first 2 steps and same again. Noticed: the Working folder and all subs are on read-only after running .bat, the cmd does not show me at all, what the guide suggests it should. (Didn't either at 1_HRDLC_Clean-START_2.64.bat for that matter but worked, obviously) log.txt contains no blank lines at all and shows no errors, either. Hearthfires is actually HearthFires if i check the .bsa but i do not think that 'F' is a problem o.o So, what's up with my normal maps? Has Paarthunax had a coughing fit and blasted them accidentally? =)
