Missing (black/purple) Texture? Report it here!
menmaatre replied to Farlo's question in DDSopt Support
I am getting purple textures for some kind of shrub in Markarth, the Reach and a few in Solitude. I did some resarch and found that the plant FormID was 0001f239 which is "TreeReachShrub01" and "TreeFloraJuniper01" I looked through all my texture folders and mods and could not find any textures for this plant and I don't know what to do now to replace it. Can anyone help? Thanks -

I changed videomemorysizemb to 8192 and my performance is a lot better. haven't been experiencing slowdowns like before. is that all I need to do or is there anything else I should look at? thanks for your help -
Huge FPS drops and slowdowns. please help
menmaatre replied to menmaatre's question in General Skyrim LE Support
No, I'm not getting any BOSS errors or warnings. This is the most serious thing BOSS says: I don't understand this line code in the ENBlocal.ini I changed it from 1024 to 8192 but it reads VideoMemorySizeMb=8192 // VRAM + RAM - 2048 what does the "//" mean? does "VRAM + RAM - 2048" need to be changed? My VRAM is actually 2048 and I think I have 12 gigs of RAM -
Huge FPS drops and slowdowns. please help
menmaatre replied to menmaatre's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Thanks will try that. will it mattern how much memory I actually have available? -
I am having huge slowdowns and FPS drops at various locations across skyrim. It seems to be most common in some towns and in locations in the wilds where i have random encounters with NPCs. But it can also happen next to carriages outside of Solitude and Windhelm and at random places in different cities, forts, etc. Doesnt seem to happen in interiors or dungeons usually. On the other hand, I don't get problems wandering around Whiterun or Solitude, but do in Riften. I'm just testing the game setup so I haven't been alot of places yet. When I'm running across the countryside and i'm alone I don't seem to have problems, so I don't think its related to environmental textures alone. I'll try to give you as much info as I can here about my setup, mods and INIs My system stats are: I'm trying to avoid mods with too many scripts at the moment, but I have a bunch of STEP Core, STEP revisted and some non-Step mods installed and active right now. I've optimized all the STEP core mods and used mostly 1024 and 2048 k textures where possible except my main Khajiit character who has 4K textures. I have optimized some of the non-step and STEP Revisited mods that had lots of textures, but not all of them. I'm also using RLO + COT + Vurt's Floral + Project ENB Realism on performance setting. The slowdowns happen regardless of whether the ENB is on or not. I'm still pretty new at this so I would be grateful for any help. Here are spoiler lists of my installed mods and INIs BOSS list of active ESPs List of Mod Organizer mods currently active in priority order. The numbers refer to their priority number in the left hand window. I also have other installed but inactive mods mixed in with them. Renderinfo.txt file Skyrim INI (from MO) Skyrimprefs.INI (from Mod Organizer) ENBlocal.INI Skyrimeditorprefs INI Utilities, programs and Managers I'm using Again, thanks to anyone and everyone who can help me with all this.

Howto: Identify Missing Textures!
menmaatre replied to Aiyen's question in General Skyrim LE Support
what do I do if I still can't find the file I'm looking for? I'm trying to find "TreeReachShrub01" and "TreeFloraJuniper01" and I still cant find them. I've looked in all the Mods and in all the original ESM folders -
Missing (black/purple) Texture? Report it here!
menmaatre replied to Farlo's question in DDSopt Support
I am getting a lot of purple bush or shrubbery textures along the roads in the reach and in Markarth. I don't know what kind of plant it is or what mod its missing from. I have Vurt's floral overhaul and various other texture mods. how do I go about finding it? I assume the purple object means the mesh is there but not the texture. -
i'm guessing that I would set the texture packs in the following priorities, STD = priority 1 Dawnguard = priority 2 Dragonborn = priority 3 HRDLC1 = priority 4 HRDLC2 = priority 5 HRDLC3 = priority 6 That way, the 3 HRDLC's are overwriting some textures from the first three, while Dragonborn and dawnguard are overwriting some textures from STD. Have I got this correct? I'm also assuming that when I add any other purely texture mods that lack ESP's, I should install them in the order described in STEP 2.2.7 and give them priority numbers that continue this series. So for example, everything in section 2.F "conflicting graphics would be installed exactly in the order given in the guide. I'm also assuming that install orders for everything in each section after 2.F are not critical except where noted in the guide. I hope i'm on the right path! Sorry for all the posts

One last thing I'm unclear on: I'm using Mod Organizer to install the packs. do I need to worry about the order I install them or do I need to adjust the order they are loaded in MO? I couldnt seem to find any reference to this issue in the DDSopt wiki.

OK I found the sidebar on how to make a 7z archive of texture and I chose the "non-solid" and LZMA2 compression options. are any of the other settings critical to this process? I didn't mess with any other default settings that were already set and I've never used or tinkered with the "add archive" settings pop up window
-
Well I got all the main vanilla and DLC textures optimized and archived and installed except for the STD main texture pack. the MO installer gave an error "none of the available installer plugins were able to handle that archive" what should I do? I know I can archive it manually using 7z but I'm not sure what settings I should use to avoid problems
-
not that i noticed, but if I come across anything I will let you know. Also, i'm in the final stage of the optimization (packing the 7z) and its all going well so far. thanks for all your advice and work on updating the batch files, etc.

Thanks very much for all this

The new 2_Pre-optimization.bat file does not appear to be working and I also had errors with the 1_HRDLC_Clean-START.Bat 1) I completely deleted all the previously extracted and optimized textures I had done with the old 2.4.7 Bat files and re-extracted the original BSAs with DDSopt according to the directions on https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:DDSopt_%26_Texture_Overhauls#tab=Using_DDSopt 2) Next I extracted and ran 1_HRDLC-Clean-START.bat as instructed on the same page. Note that neither the page nor any of the README files explains what the difference is between the two batch files 1HRDLC_Clean.bat and 1HRDLC_Clean-START.bat. Also, the wiki only says to run the "Clean-START.bat" not the "Clean.bat". 3) when I ran Clean-START.bat everything seemed to be fine but I had the error "the directory is not empty" in the ERROR.log. The only thing that was in the Vanilla Extracted directory were the folders for Dawnguard, Dragonborn, separate ones for HRDLC1-3, and STD + the logs for all six of these extractions. I am assuming that this "directory is not empty" error is not critical, but I did not get it when I ran 2.4.7 batch the other day. It did successfully create the 4 new folders "vanilla normal maps", "Vanilla optimized," "Vanilla Ordinary Textures", and "Vanilla Uncompressed textures". Vanilla Optimized also created a sub folder STD. All these folders remain empty including the STD sub-folder which I think had some .png files in it when I ran version 2.4.7 the other day. 4) now I tried to run 2_Pre-optimization.bat but I got a log.txt with these errors: 2013/11/06 23:02:16 ERROR 2 (0x00000002) Accessing Source Directory E:\Vanilla Extracted\ The system cannot find the file specified. 2013/11/06 23:02:16 ERROR 2 (0x00000002) Accessing Source Directory E:\Vanilla Extracted\ The system cannot find the file specified. 2013/11/06 23:02:16 ERROR 2 (0x00000002) Accessing Source Directory E:\Vanilla Extracted\ The system cannot find the file specified. All four of the new folders created by Clean-START.bat remain totally empty, so 2_pre-optimization.bat didn't do anything I think. I can't think what I did wrong. Unfortunately, I had already deleted the files I had successfully optimized when the old version of the Batch file gave me a folder named "uncompressed normal maps" instead of "vanilla uncompressed folders" After all this I also tried running the Clean-START.bat and all I got were a ton of "could not find" errors in the HRDLC_Clean_Error.log. I did make a back up of the newly extracted vanilla BSAs. What should I do now?
-
OK thanks I just got the 2.51 batch files. the question is will I now have to start the optimization process over from scratch or can I just rename the "uncompressed normal maps" folder to "vanilla uncompressed textures". In other words, was the problem with 2.4.7 a folder naming issue or did it actually mix up the texture files being process or sort the proper textures incorrectly? I'd really like to know before I redo anything since I would want to do the whole optimization process over from scratch if there's an error. Thanks

Hi IÂ have a question about DDSopt. I'm near the end but something doesnt seem to match up in the last part from: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:DDSop...timization It says in step 6 of the optimizing section: "When this processing is complete, using the same procedure choose Vanilla Uncompressed Textures/ as the current source in the upper window of the Browser Tab and again Vanilla Optimized/ remains as the current destination (lower window). The DDSopt Browser Tab will then look like Figure B3." Then it says in step 7: Change the Constraints Tab settings to match Figure V3, H3, or S3 (Uncompressed Normal Maps) settings. Click [Process] to complete the optimization. Now after running the "2_Pre-Optimization.bat" batch file earlier, I got 5 folders: vanilla extracted Vanilla Normal Maps Vanilla Optimized Vanilla Textures Vanilla Uncompressed Normal Maps But, I never got a folder called "Vanilla Uncompressed Textures" Should I have? Step 6 and 7 seem to be different. Is "Vanilla Uncompressed Textures" a typo for "Vanilla Uncompressed Normal Maps" or did something go wrong? thanks

After getting to stage 2.I "clothing & items" of STEP 2.2.7 I started getting endless loading screens. was mostly using 1024 options for texture packs but installing almost everything on the Core list including the infamous 2k Skyrim Realism Overhaul. Now starting fresh install of skyrim and STEP from scratch. Thing is I want to be way less ambitious with texture mods this time but also want to be comprehensive: environmental textures, items, character and NPC textures. My "Must have" bottom line texture intensive mods are: Patches, fixes and Interface: All unofficial patches including all DLC but hearthfire Sky-UI 4 XMPS skeleton FNIS behavior A Quality World Map with Roads (not sure if this one is problematic) Environment: SMIM + Skyrim HD (lite) + Water + Climates of Tamriel (with various weather add ons like supreme storms, lighting, etc) + Skyrim Floral Overhaul + Trees HD + Realistic Sun + Lorkhan's Vision Moons, stars & galaxy + HiRes road signs + point the way + realistic smoke and embers Characters and Creatures: Beards + Brows + Birds and Flocks + Birds of Skyrim + Bellyache Creatures (not Auto Variants) + Superior Lore Hair + 101 Bugs + XCE + Khajit mods: I wanna be a big bad kitty cat sneak thief/assassin! SC Khajiit Improvement males only + Better Beast Races + wild eyes + Khajiit war paints Clothing & Weapons, clutter & Misc: Weapons DeLARPification + Elemental staves 1K + Nightingale prime armor + detailed rugs + Radiant unique potions and BOOZE + soul gems differ + Wet and Cold Non STEP Mods must haves (please tell me I can!): Sneak Tools Book Covers of Skyrim WIC cloaks and/or Cloaks of Skyrim Realistic Needs Diseases Frostfall Hypothermia Other Options: These are some Options I really also like but could live without any one of them if need be: SkyBirds = this one looks really big and don't know if it add much over BoS + B&F Male and Female body and face replacer mods (haven't decided which yet) Footprints realistic snow visible windows Lanterns of Skyrim Sky Falls + Sky Mills Real Ice Realistic Snow aMidian Born book of silence (this one scares me a bit ) Immersive Armors (non STEP I think) IF all this is not already too much the question is what other texture mods should I add. I'm most concerned about the big environment/landscape packs as well as a few mods to expand cities. I don't know which of these would add much "must have" improvement over what I already have including the official hi res DLC and Skyrim HD. What are the relative merits of these?: ruin clutter Serious HD Skyrim Realistic Overhall (maybe too much for my system?) HD Misc items Tobe's Hi-res Enhanced distant Terrain original and #2 Distant Detail HD Enhanced Terrain High Quality LODs Beauty of Skyrim dungeons Terrain bumps Most of the other stuff in the STEP lists I can live without. I'd love to know what anybody thinks about any of this. sorry if this post is too long, I'm new to the forums. Thanks!
