Question

Posted (edited)

Greetings!

I've stumbled upon a bug, which after scouring the internets, seems to have no known fix. Any time I mine from any node, I receive 2 firewood per mined ore. A full mining cycle (with the animation) produces a total of 6 wood which fills up my inventory pretty quickly and forces me to drop it each time I mine. A secondary effect of this bug is that I think I've lost the chance to receive gems while mining. I could just manually mine but I'd rather not have to. I could just load an earlier save but I'd lose about 6 hours of play time since I didn't mine during that time and wasn't aware of the bug until later.

I'm running STEP: Core and these are the only modes I use.

The only significant change in my game was that I became a vampire 2 levels ago and then I bought the house in Markham and became thane.

Any ideas of what I could do to fix this?

So using SaveTool, I decided to do a little experimentation. I removed the MineOreScript from the saved game file, saved a backup, and loaded the new saved file with the missing script. All mine nodes kept producing firewood like before except this time, without any ore! There must be another script that's overwriting or conflicting with the MineOreScript. I will keep experimenting and check beck here later.

Anyone know what the wood chopping script is?

One webpage mentioned:

ResourceFurnitureScript.psc
WoodChoppingScript.psc

I have ResourceFurnitureScript but none of my saved games contain the WoodChoppingScript... can anyone confirm if this is normal?

Chopping wood seems to have no undesireable effect. The bug affects all metals, stone, anything where you use the pick axe.

It's worth noting that people with Vanilla Skyrim also have had this problem according to my research, but it seems rare.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/57936320/autosave3.7z The save with the current problem.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/57936320/quicksave.7z This is the earliest save just before vampirism where there was no issue. Both saves are in mines.

Do you need the SKSE files that go with the saves?

Never heard of this; it sounds like a very odd bug.  I can definitely confirm that the ResourceFurnitureScript is the firewood chopping script.  This script should not be present on any of the ore activators.

Two things I can think of to check in TES5Edit:

- look at the Ore activators and see if there are any extra scripts attached or if firewood is being used to fill any of the properties in the existing MineOreScript.

- There is a LeveledList called LItemGems10 which is what the MineOreScript typically uses to spawn gemstones.  If the firewood seems to have replaced the gems, then I would double-check that this leveled list hasn't somehow been altered to contain firewood instead of gemstones.

I've no idea what would cause either of the above changes to actually happen (other than a mistake made in a mod).  If you're testing things by removing scripts or reverting to previous versions of a script, then you may need to go somewhere without ore veins and wait for 30 days in order to allow those activators time to respawn.  Changing the script then loading up a save where you are right next to an ore vein may result in errors since the previously loaded activator may still be attempting to run the old script.

Thanks for the info kryptopyr. Could you give me a walkthrough on how I can use TES5Edit to look at the ore activators? I'm not sure which category to expand to find this.

If by chance you are using a mod called mining makes noise you should drop that plugin because it causes problems. For example infinite mining animations with no ore retrieval.

Ok fair enough.

Tensho I did a little reading and thought I'd mention a couple of things. You probably already read these too. Did you recently have a follower mine ore for you? Someone who had the bug mentioned that. Also if you mine ore manually by hitting it with a pickaxe it will bypass the bug. Finally even people with no mods have had this bug and it seemed stuck in their savegame, so try using the savegame script scalpel to clean your savegame since it will clean some things that the other cleaners can't.

I had a follower chop wood for me - it's possible that this did it. Faendal won't mine ore for me though when he has a pick axe. I will try this savegame script scalpel and post back.

EDIT: Savegame script scalpel looks complicated.. I don't have that much time to fix the problem. I just loaded an old save. If it happens again I'll try to pinpoint what happened.

hmm, When I downloaded the save I noticed that it was an autosave...

I have found almost all forms of quicksaves and autosaves to be sketchy at best...

I dont think it is related but I thought I should mention it.

I dislike script scalpel because it is cumbersome...

I like Save game script cleaner

Lets try something...

back up the current save

open Save game script cleaner

in the script box

enter ResourceFurnitureScript

then delete selected

enter MineOreScript

and delete selected

click fix script instances

save

load the game and see what happens...

EDIT: Oops, double post...
