Can UGRIDS switch from 7 to 5 bugger save game?

Question

I'm trying to systematically uncover an existing consistent CTD I'm getting.  My current playthrough started out at UGRIDS 7 when I noticed frequent but inconsistent CTD's around Whiterun tundra.  I adjusted ENB settings to allow for more RAM use to cover VRAM (16ram  4gVram) so now I show basically 3050vram and 2040ram use via Performance Mgr.  I dropped UGRIDS down to 5 after I read there can be issues with spawning and possible game play.  (I DO use stableugridstoload)

Now with my saved game (level 4) I CTD within 30 seconds or so very regularly as I'm walking up to Lad's Lake (towards Whiterun).   Sometimes before it, sometimes right at the shore.  One time a mudcrab took off like a plane, went right over my head about 50 feet at that point I CTD.  I also usually CTD at death but that's ok since I exit Skyrim when I die to reload anyway.  What's also funky about the tundra is that there's a HUGE pack of wolves, maybe 30 strong milling around in a valley.  Strange doings.

However I can't duplicate this with a new saved game using UGRIDS 5.  I COC near Silentmoonscamp walk to Lad's Lake and use Speedmult to zip around the tundra too.  I do CTD after 5 mins or so but it's most likely due to stressing Skyrim abnormally.

I'll refrain from adding my specs until I can do a better job of targeting my issue.  I'm running a heavy STEP/SR/Requiem/REG setup.  I was VERY careful with my saved game ( This only ESPs I checked unchecked was SDO to see if the Giant FiRES were the issue).  I didn't remove any mods nor do I autosave and I always exit Skyrim after death.

Can it be as simple as a UGRID drop from 7 to 5 or do I have more underlying issues to deal with ?  Thanks for any insights here.

Did you change the uGrids value in game or via the .ini?

I changed it via the .ini.   I use MO so I just edited the skyrim.ini

The CTD is certainly consistent using the old save game. Happened again on me.   Standing right there on the edge of the lake.   Using MFGconsole it does mention the SDO full lod - whiterun tundra creek.esp.   Is it possible since I checked and unchecked that mod (never removed it though) that it could be the cause ?

Ok,  If I change the ini in MO to ugridstoload = 7 and load up my old save I DON'T CTD.   If I change it back to 5 in game I was ok also.

I quit the game,  changed the ini in MO to ugridstoload = 5.   Load up my old save and boom.  CTD again.

I included my memoryblockslog.log after I crashed.

Looks like I'm starting up a new game.  Again.  I just can't trust the old save and I don't think playing at 7 is a good idea anyway.

Hopefully I helped someone here with my travails ...  Thank for the push in the right direction.
