CTD Dawnguard first quest

Question

Posted

Hi,

I have a constant CTD during the first quest of Dawnguard. More precisely, after finding the girl, we arrive in a room with a lever to activate which spawn two draugrs. The CTD comes a few second after pulling this lever. My Papyrus log:

  Reveal hidden contents

That's my first wired CTD after a lot of played hours :(.

This is a full SR_LE install without any addition. And that's the first time I have a constant CTD in my new game after 20h+.

This type of non-random CTD tends to a problem with a mod, I suppose, No?

Any idea of which one I have to try?

Edit: With an ancient save, the CTD does not appear, so... I will not try to understand.

Does anybody actually read these Papyrus logs and find something useful in them?

From the info you provide, I can only give you this basic troubleshooting guide to finding the issue:

  • Is Skyrim Memory Patch being used (via Skyrim Script Extender or SSME)?
  • Is ENBoost installed and working?
    • Do you get the in-game message that ENBoost is active?
    • Are your ENBlocal.ini settings correct?
    • Use Skyrim Performance Monitor to verify
  • Are you using unorthodox INI tweaks?
  • Are the Unofficial Patches installed correctly?
    • Are they checked in the mod list?
    • Are they in the correct order in the mod list?
    • Are they checked in the plugins list?
  • Do any of your plugins have errors that cannot be resolved?
    • Test plugins with the Check for Errors option in TES5Edit
    • Test patches first, as they are most likely to have outdated records due to mod version changes without patch update.
  • Start disabling mods and find which mod is causing CTD

You could try the script scapel tool if you wanted to see if that helped. There's a link in the mods section. I'm guessing there was something in your new save either you removed something or some script is firing off that just overloads Skyrim's fragile engine. New games when adding or taking things out are sadly the best ways for modding.
