STEP + SkyRe + Climate/Lighting

Question

Posted

I'm new to STEP, and was intending to simply install STEP Extended + SkyRe + Climates of Tamriel (CoT) + some lighting mod, such as Enhanced Lighting FX (ELFX).  Oh, also wanted Frostfall + related content.  This was based on a discussion I found that suggested it could be done:

However, on reading the Packs literature here it seems this may be hard to pull off.  For example, VEGA Extended isn't even finished yet - https://wiki.step-project.com/Pack:VEGA_Extended - and I have little doubt the person working on this is an advanced modder/programmer.  I don't mod, I'm not a comp sci grad by training, etc.

My question is whether I will break my game if I attempt these things?  Or maybe I should go back to VEGA:Basic and attempt to add some lighting and cold?

However, it seems to me that many of the Extended mods are not that big a deal - eg. will lanterns really conflict with SkyRe?  Can I pick and choose reasonable things out of Extended and add them to Basic without using the STEP:Extended patch?

I'm not even sure my system can handle Extended (was planning to use all the Basic suggestions for resolution/quality) - I was planning to install it and see if I'm still above water:

System Spec:

Core i5-750 @ 3.0 GHz

Ga-P55A-UD3 -- Bus @ 150 MHz

G.Skill Ares 8 GB RAM @ 1500 MHz 9-9-9-24

EVGA GTX 560 Ti SC 1GB

180GB Intel 530 SSD + 640GB WD Caviar Black HHD

Antec Earthwatts 650W

Any suggestions are most welcome.

After many views but no response, I'm thinking the Packs folder was the wrong place to post my question. If you are a moderator, feel free to delete this thread since I have received no responses. Thank you!

You should be able to handle extended fine, just make sure that you use the lower resolution texture options. You can install the Weather and lighting pack on top of that but probably best to leave the ENB section off as your card may struggle. You can also add in the survival pack. This will give you everything but SkyRe. For that install the VEGA basic pack and you should be good to go. That said I would only install STEP CORE for now as it has all the main mods you need to fix up Skyrim and improve it's look. Add in any mods from Extended that you really want, that is up to you.

Install it right and it all works nicely together.

:)

P.S. When half the world is asleep and the other at work or in lectures people do not always get time to post.

Well 1GB VRAM I would say skip out on the HRDLC and use smaller textures. I'd move the thread if I could and I can't get you the links to my recommended reduced VRAM textures atm but I'm sure someone here can help.

This sounds more like general support request rather than Pack. Moving to Support Forums. If this ever evolves into a Pack guide we can move back.

Now, in reply to OP.

I can tell you that mixing SkyRe in requires A LOT of custom patching, as it is a major overhaul that touches pretty much every single aspect of the game. Without custom patches I don't think you can pull this off without problems arising later down the line.

I use majority of STEP:Extended mods in conjunction with SkyRe + quite a few other mods. I tried multiple times to achieve a stable build, yet my efforts proved unsuccessful so far. The fault was always on my side, putting too many scripted mods, which in time made the game unplayable. The reasons were always either freezes or ILS.

Now, Safety Load may help. It didn't help me, as I was getting CTD's with it, and was not able to use it. I'm pretty sure It corrupted my saves. Some people use it without any problems though, it seems to be system dependant.

I have just completed my new build and I'm using the new Memory Patch instead of Safety Load. Hopefully this will work, as Safety Load did help at first and I was enjoying a stable and very playable Skyrim (see my STEP page, link in the signature). I'm in the process of testing it now, as of yesterday. If you want to hold your horses, I can provide you with the modlist, install order and the custom patches I made to make this work together, once I confirm if the build is stable enough to play.

You can then mirror it and let me know how it works for you? I have a plan to convert it into a proper Pack, once I am confident that it works correctly.
