Banned Torrents by uk ISP

Question

Posted

The other day i found a mod for skyrim but because i am from the uk  and they recently blocked all torrents. i could not access any torrent page, instead it came up with a block notice.

Stoopid really as im not wanting to do any illegal activity. most of the time i just come up across mods too big to upload in one easy file, to forums via upload and sharing engines.

The other day i saw a resident evil 4 texture patch there was a torrent i could not access and an alternative with 15 links 200 mb a piece so i tried the links as i could not access the torrent.. on unzipping it said file was broken, i re-downloaded several times with no luck.

Well i have found a cure to all that crap and i hope i am allowed to share it on here as i have seen a few torrents already with mods in them and i feel it is unfair for some people to be blocked from doing things that are harmless and legal, while others enjoy.

https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en#downloads

Im off now to try find that resident evil 4 mod i could not get.... oh god this may take a while, i have no idea where it is. wish i had this last week.

The first thing i do when i buy a new game is search torrents for big mod packs and texture overhauls, download them all then see which one is best.

If i find 2 that i like but cannot decide on i then take the time to choose the textures from each pack that i want in my game. it's how i roll. :)

this is now possible again.

I would steer well clear of that, and just use the official Tor Browser Bundle. Why trust a potentially dodgy third party?

Also, remember that browsing torrent sites through Tor is fine, but Tor asks that no-one actually downloads the torrents themselves through their network - it cripples their very limited bandwidth.

Thank you, i have just downloaded the tor bundle pack and it works on torrents so deleted the third party one and updated the link above to the safe one.

I had no idea the tor bundle pack existed until now :)

Yeah using Tor is pretty slow, mostly use it to buy stuff I'd rather not have people know I'm buying (not drugs). Also, the e-mail service for Tor users is good for the tinfoil hat crowd.

The browser is based off of Firefox, so it is decent enough to browse with. I cant believe they blocked all torrent traffic. Cant you go through a VPN? I know they cost money, but still super cheap. Usenet is also quite cheap, usenet is one of those don't talk about it because then everyone will know about it kinda things.

Blocking *all* torrent activity? Isn't that extreme? Torrents can be used to transmit perfectly legal stuff - Linux distros use torrents legally for redistributing their ISOs, and there's a whole site called LegalTorrents that hosts... well, guess. They may be commonly used for pirating, but not always...

i found the private browser here after my 100th page of finding a torrent i could use because not only do i use torrent to download large mods but i want to use it one day to upload mine... https://eztv.it/

i found about 4 places i could get things from but they did not have what i wanted... talk talk also restricts me access to some torrents too. i was also able to download that SRO torrent the other day. so not everything is blocked... everytime i am able to download from torrent it has been from a link to the torrent file download and not through the torrent site... so far tried loads and been blocked on almost every torrent site.

on every mod i try to get now for crysis via torrent or anything else torrent related comes up with this page.

uk isps only block certain dodgy sites. Lots of them detect and throttle bittorrent traffic too. A nice cheap vpn is the way forward . Ip Predator from Sweden is pretty decent to bypass all that.

Utube started doing a similar thing. you can't view this video in your country and i had to cheat that too. so much messing about for a 1.34 minute video clip that i turned off after 30 seconds.

VPNs are really good, but try Usenet if you can. Nice easy way to get files and it has been around forever and no one seems to try and stop it. I don't really pirate games or commercial software, but I pay for cable so if I want to download a show that I forgot to record or a movie that I already paid $26 to see in IMAX, then I don't consider that piracy.

I bought 1000GB off Astraweb for $50 a while ago. There is no way I'm going to burn through that anytime soon.

thats....scary o_0

but why not just use a proxy addon for the browser ? it works with U-tube so i assume faking a not-UK-ip would work here as well. i was "located" in north-corea for quite a while, didnt know they have any copyright restrictions in that country (and it was possible to choose it, no idea who thinks people from there would be able to even reach those pages ^_^

vpns and stuff are nice but in most cases a simple proxy does the job...and btw, those restrictions are completly senseless. its only forbidden to UPLOAD stuff (thats protected by some sort of crazy copyright-stuff), downloading is absolutly legal (I cant know that the ubuntu-distri i download actually is a hollywood-movie with a changed filename....).

and for quite some years i´ve not heard of any actions against so called "pirates", the only news i got on that topic was that most of the lawyers who made a fortune by sending out countless warnings lost their license and are forbidden to ever work as a lawyer again in germany (where most of these stupidities took place in europe). and it got FAR harder to ripp someone off that way, you actually have to have proof he did something illegal on purpose to send him a bill, guess the "pirates" that really went to court when they received such a letter made the jugdes realize that if that went on they´d never see a different case in their life again.....

most of the stuff i fabricated panic, i never ever had anyone i know getting even a warning (but in .at its a bit different,we´ve got 4 cops for all criminal activities in the net and they from the start on made it clear that they´d for sure not do copyright stuff) nor did i ever speak or talk with someone who actually _knew_ someone who had received any form of punishment. thats a thing that was made up, pushed trough the media and after 10 years still frightens users -_-

and yes, i also dont like the net as it is....and am scared of how it will be in 5-10 years...dont even want to think about it...

ps : forgot one thing, the magnet links should also work perfectly, afaik they´re not able to track any seeder when using those (cause in the end there are some thousand seeders, they´d have to find out who loaded which bit up), maybe take a look if thats still working. if there are some people who want some bigger file packages hosted i can arrange that, got some servers in the area of vienna which havent got anything to do and bandwidth is unlimited, only need to talk to a buddy and they´re available.....
