DanielCoffey Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Neo - did you ever create an Oblivion Revisited guide or was SR your first record of this approach? I may be starting an Oblivion game soon and had been looking at Culveyhouse's Oblivion Extreme Graphics Overhaul video series but as far as I am aware he didn't consider conflicts and stability in its design and he stopped once the majority of the visuals mods were in and didn't touch gameplay extensions.
WilliamImm Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 No, he never did do anything for Oblivion. If you want to see a good Oblivion mod list... well, I followed a lot of resources on the Beth Oblivion Mods forum (mostly with Dubiousness's helpful posts) - and I constructed a roadmap for Oblivion modding (at least for my needs). Here it is, if you want to look at it. Chock full of good quality mods - I'd consider it a Revisited-esque guide for Oblivion. Notably, I put in a lot of quest mods - because you want to distract yourself as much as possible from the main quest line (which isn't that great).
DanielCoffey Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 That's great, thanks. I will have a ton of questions, most likely, but will see how far I can get on my own since it is a good learning experience.
Tiger Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 I miss Oblivion. I'll reinstall it at some point and get it modded up. There was something about Oblivion that I fell in love with that Skyrim doesn't have. It had a Tudor/Elizabethan feel to it which I loved. I prefer the music too. Thanks also for that link WilliamImm, I feel a return to Cyrodil coming on.
anothernick Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 That is helpful, thanks. It's funny you mention the "something about Oblivion," too. I am notorious for not finishing games, or even making a dent in them. This is usually for games that have toolsets, so it's not an actual abandonment of the game, just its vanilla state. Like NWN - didn't finish any main campaigns, but we played and modded it for 8 years or something. Oblivion was rare though, because not only did I barely get out of the intro, but I didn't stop to go mod-shopping, or anything. I just... drifted off. I dunno, something about it I guess - just wasn't that interested somehow. I have been meaning to load it up with mods and give it a go, so that's a place to start.
NotARobot Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Anyone remember TCOM? It was one hell of a mod pack. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Iaq4zWR0tRKeAcU67QrjZRSyiW1HEDA3dW0i4pSkQXQ/edit
tomtomtommy Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Hey WilliamImm, Great list! Any reason you didn't include Qarl's texture pack?
WilliamImm Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Any reason you didn't include Qarl's texture pack?Because (at the time), I thought that the suggested texture packs would sufficiently replace Qarl's. That being said, I may end up using that once the actual guide is implemted, with DDSopt optimizaton. It all depends on what I want to do.
tomtomtommy Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Aye, fair enough. You probably seen it before but just in case you didn't for textures replacement this page is great: https://testg.wikidot.com/oblivion:oblivion
WilliamImm Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 I know. I linked to the guide in the resources section.
Luinithil Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Nice list there WilliamImm, I'm using a fair few of them currently. I should note that there's an ESPless book jacket replacer out that can be used in place of the book jackets mods.
WilliamImm Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I should note that there's an ESPless book jacket replacer out that can be used in place of the book jackets mods.I looked at that. Wasn't as comprehensive as the ESP using book replacers.
