CTD right after Intro when first exploring world

Hi all - been tweaking and working constantly for the last 1.5 weeks to try to get this to finally work right for me so i can play through the game for mah first time, and after turning off ApachiiSkyHairRLO and EL&FX (as well as the compatibility patches necessary with them) and Cloaks of Skyrim, i finally made it through the opening intro and through the dungeon.  Now I'm just crashing in the outside world.  The furthest I have made it is to the three alter/stones where you can choose if you want the mage/fighter/thief blessing, and then it crashed as i went down the hill.  CTD each time, and I have cleaned the mods hoping that was the only remaining problem, but alas, still CTD.  So I come to beseech your help!

 

System Details:

 

Intel 3770 (non-k)

12G of ram

7950 AMD, 3g ram

 

I use Mod Organizer (after trying and failing 2x times with NMM)

 

I don't know how to post the BOSS load order how I have seen others post it, so i went to the BOSS screen and copied the 'Recognized Plugins'

I tried to work with the Extreme settings, as my system should have no problems with it.

 

And lastly, I am using the ENB RealVision.

 

I saw someone else post a papyrus log, but i've no idea what that even is so...yea.  

 

Let me know if you need more info, I will be happy to provide it as I'd love to finally play teh game with no crashes...or at least very rare ones.

Go to your documents folder find My Games->Skyrim->logs. The most recent is 0, and it keeps the last four.

Yea, there isn't any logs folder inside the Skyrim folder.  Am I not supposed to be running it through SKSE executable through MO?

Oh you need to use the MO ini editor to get it to work, so make sure those lines are '1' in skyrim.ini. Those will overwrite the default ones.

 

And, yes, keep using SKSE through MO.

Ok, got it, i had the Papyrus thing in there twice, once where i just copy pasted the above, and the first was further up the .ini file with the 0's in it. so i just dleted the part i added, and changed the values to 1, loaded SKSE, ran till it CTD'd, and the results are below.

This setting is the stack allocation and large values are not recommended:

 

iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=2147483647

 

Where ever you got that setting is wrong, as most of the INI settings tend to be. default is 76800, and that is what we recommend.

Your log is pretty strange. It has a lot of missing esps listed for a number of scripts. This usually indicates your save is not new, and these mods were previously installed with these scripts still trying to execute?! Did you really start a new game?.

Which ENB dll are you running? Have you sorted the mods that are not recognised by BOSS? Could you make a list of all your installed mods?

And another important question, what sort of STEP did you install, you say extreme version? You have good hardware, but the Skyrim engine is still rather limited sadly. Did you mainly use 1024K or bigger textures? High quality textures and uGrids=9 is mental really. Even recent ENBs can't help you stay under the memory limit at some point you know.

 

It should also be noted that uGrids at 9 can cause sstrange bugs, for example,

when you walk towards Whiterun, the companions will have killed the Giant long before you reach them, and they will say something like, "Thanks for nothing, you could have helped us" And you won't even have seen the fight.

If you insist on having higher uGrids, I would use 7. Better than 5 with less problems attached to it.

 

Since riverwood is already fully loaded with uGirds at 9 when reaching the stones, it sounds like a script that starts is causing the issue, such as the wolfs sensing your presence. It even lists a weapon rack activation? Why is there a weapon rack script activated when you are ouside running towards Riverwood? Skyrim is strange sometimes.

Yeah make sure all of your .esp and .esm files are enabled in the right pane of Mod Organizer there are quite a few missing .esp's and .esm's according to the logs. It may just be Convenient Horses and normal idk.

This setting is the stack allocation and large values are not recommended:

 

iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=2147483647

 

Where ever you got that setting is wrong, as most of the INI settings tend to be. default is 76800, and that is what we recommend.

Huh, I'm not entirely sure where I got that setting from then, I thought it was one of the S.T.E.P. pages, but it may have been one of the notes on a mod's page or some such.  Either way, per your suggestion, this has been replaced with the 76800 you suggested*

 

I also tweaked teh shadows in game quite a bit to be more defined as per some ini tweaks - I've no idea if these would have a serious impact on the game or not, you can check them out below:

Also if you are using any newer ENB versions then it takes care of memory management. Hence even more reason not to touch that sort of tweaks.

I didn't realize ENB did much with that stuff, it's good to know.  I think i recall seeing the enb man just recently released a new version that is supposed to improve stability, but it's still being tested...?

Your log is pretty strange. It has a lot of missing esps listed for a number of scripts. This usually indicates your save is not new, and these mods were previously installed with these scripts still trying to execute?! Did you really start a new game?.

Which ENB dll are you running? Have you sorted the mods that are not recognised by BOSS? Could you make a list of all your installed mods?

And another important question, what sort of STEP did you install, you say extreme version? You have good hardware, but the Skyrim engine is still rather limited sadly. Did you mainly use 1024K or bigger textures? High quality textures and uGrids=9 is mental really. Even recent ENBs can't help you stay under the memory limit at some point you know.

 

It should also be noted that uGrids at 9 can cause sstrange bugs, for example,

when you walk towards Whiterun, the companions will have killed the Giant long before you reach them, and they will say something like, "Thanks for nothing, you could have helped us" And you won't even have seen the fight.

If you insist on having higher uGrids, I would use 7. Better than 5 with less problems attached to it.

 

Since riverwood is already fully loaded with uGirds at 9 when reaching the stones, it sounds like a script that starts is causing the issue, such as the wolfs sensing your presence. Yea, I got done, ran generate FNIS, dual sheath patch, then boss, then SKSE, then new game.    

As for ENB, ENBSeries 0.227 is the one RealVision recommends, so it's the one I use.  As for sorting unrecognized mods...

See the attached picture - i tried to put the picture here, but clicking on Insert Into Post didn't do anything?

Basically, Boss doesn't show any of them as being unrecognized, they are all STEP mods.  If you want a list, just open the stop mod list for 2.2.6, as I went down it 1 by 1, installing it in the exact order (except for BOYD and the patches for BOYD.  The only non Step mods I had are Calientes, RLO, EL&FX, ApachiiSkyHair, Cloaks of Skyrim (and Dawnguard) and the compatability patches thereof, all of which i have unchecked so they aren't currently included, or activated as a plugin or what-have-you.

for most textures, I believe I went with 2k versions, because I wanted the game to run and was scared of teh 4k, plus on a 1080p, i didn't think i'd be able to tell the difference enough to warrant it.  Heck, 1k is probably more than enough.  If a downgrade there will fix things, consider it done when you give the word*

As for uGrids, if you say to take it out, it's gone.  I just deleted uGrids from my .ini file.  And to be on the safe side, I can just delete every save file I have, and start over one more time, but i doubt deleting save files will solve anything, but that being said, i'm not going to play those old save files, so i may as well.

Did i need to delete uGrids from the file, or just lower the # to 5?  I don't even know what uGrids is, I just followed directions I found elsewhere.

***EDIT**** I ended up downgrading the uGrids to 7 instead, and the buffer changed to 64, per a guide i found while searching****

 

As for why it's loading a weapons rack, heck if I know :D  I felt like it was mocking me when the bottom of the last log said "[10/06/2013 - 10:20:39PM] Info: *Achievement 29 awarded - a winnar is you!*"

I **think** you are referring to havinga check mark in all of the boxes in the 'Plugins' field in MO - which I do have them all activated/checked.  all of them that show up in there.

 

Just to be clear, I am not especially attached to any of the mods, I just want the game to look awesome and play stable.  or at least fairly stable.  

 

While I wait for more input, i'm going to delete said saves and rerun FNIS, Dual, and Boss and start a new files, free of uGrids and with the 76800 as my new imaxallocated setting.  Please let me know if there are any other changes/tweaks I need to make, and thanks again for your time, I realize none of you have to help me and I appreciate that this community is willing to assist me very much!

ENB does manage memory now with its ENBoost features. It is already built into v.227 and enabled by default. Hence no need for any memory tweaks.

 

Higher ugrids is essentially that you force the game to load a larger game world area. This makes the game look prettier, but also requires silly much more performance, and it reduces stability by quite a bit since the game engine cannot handle that much stuff. If you do not have any mods installed, except for texture replacements and a few armor adds then sure you can do it. Most screenarchers do that to make those extremely pretty screenshots you might have seen around the net.

 

Also you do not want to use RLO and ELFX at the same time... they kinda do the same thing and hence conflict a lot. And they do not just overwrite each other in all cases, so you would have more lights enabled in certain locations which would make the game more unstable as well due to a large increase in shadow computations.

As for the re-lighters, if I want to try one and then the other, is that safe to do from within my save game, or do i need to start the game brand new in order to apply one and or the other?

Also, if there are still adjustments I haven't made and need to from what you guys already know, please let me know ASAP :D

If you just want to look then you can just place them and load up a save. Just do not save with them on again :P

Where # is the cell name. You get those by tying "help riverwood" for example. Then use pgup and pgdn until you get CELL entries.

So to go to riverwood you would type

coc riverwood

 

A few interiors are

There you can clearly see the difference between the two mods at least

 

Once you decide then you can put in the compatibility patches for each, depending on what other mods you use that alter cells.

 

Other then that... do a stability test once you have something that seems like its gonna work.

I believe the speedmult test have already been proposed... otherwise it was in some other thread.

In general I suggest that you play the main quest up till the first dragon kill in one go, and see how many CTD´s and issues you run into. If you get one CTD then that is fairly fair... since doing that from helgen start is more or less 3 hours of playing.

You can play with god mode on to speed it up, and give yourself daedric weapons to speed it up even further.
