The guide says to install Visual Studio C++ redistributable for both 2015 and 2017-2022?

Question

Posted

I can install 2017+, which is packaged together without 2015 for some reason.  However, I physically cannot install the 2015 redistributable at the same time as every redistributable since 2017, even after Microsoft made me shake, spin and roll over to get it with their awful website, because you can't have multiple versions installed at the same time, and 2015 is out of support.
Dyndolod inexplicably crashes with an error that basically scolds me for either not updating my graphics drivers or having Solitaire running, and this was one of the first things to come to mind, because Solitaire is stupid and my graphics drivers are up to date, but I do not have the Visual Studio C++ Redistributable from 2015 installed because my OS won't let me install it.

It is unclear what guide the thread title refers to. If you have a problem following a third party guide (like STEP for example), you need to ask on their forum (section) or discord about that particular issue.

https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum
Report the actual problem or error message without making unverified assumptions or asking leading questions. Read the explanations and tips below, especially about what information and logs to provide and how.

I suggest to really read the entire error message as explained in https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum#Read-Log-and-Error-Messages and click its links to further help and information about the reported problem.

https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum#Copy-and-Paste-Text
When having done so, point to the exact words or phrase that make you believe you are being scolded and what makes you believe it refers to Solitaire as being problematic.

Once having read the actual message, see https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum#Use-Search and https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum#Post-Logs. Post the DynDOLOD log and debug log as explained.

MS did indeed recently change and rename the latest Visual C++ Redistributable download. Simply install the "Latest supported redistributable version" x64 https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#latest-supported-redistributable-version.

As explained on https://dyndolod.info/Downloads, the Visual C++ Redistributable is required by Texconvx64 and DynDOLOD DLL NG and Scripts. DynDOLOD itself is a compiled Delphi program based on xEdit and its xLODGen tool mode that does not require additional libraries. It seems likely the error message is unrelated to the installed Visual C++ Redistributable, unless it mentions Texconv.

I was not being serious.  The error tells me to uninstall and close Windows bloatware (hence, Solitaire or similar) and make sure every single graphics driver is up to date from a valid source.
I do not have Windows 11 bloatware installed or running beyond what is strictly necessary because I went out of my way to ensure as much, and my graphics drivers are all up to date.  However, at times I find the official documentation unclear, to the point where using third party help like this is my only option.  I installed some other redistributable and, as the...  Bot?  Below says, I installed both the x64 and the x86 versions of the executable, which is not something the DynDOLOD website mentions  I don't know what I was reading before, nor can I find it again, but this mentions the .NET, something I forgot after formatting, so I can't argue on the second program.  I had no idea that I specifically needed x64 on top of x86, this is something the documentation should probably clarify.
And still, I get an OpenGL error while loading a decal from Whiterun (last time it was some wooden boards, this time it's a nail), and the error tells me to ensure that I have no bloatware running and update my graphics drivers to the latest official versions.
I am on AMD hardware with the latest graphics driver (version 25.12.1) with no bloatware running beyond the standard things I installed (Logitech G Hub, Epic Games, Razer, ETC) and I even prevent Windows from installing additional bloatware with another program, my best friend through an OS that tries my patience, O&O Shut Up.  I cannot see something effectively just telling me to keep my graphics drivers up to date as anything other than scolding, because technology actually treats the user like a toddler and assumes it knows better a lot.
PS: For clarification, when I made this post, I had found the unclear section of the document and I wondered if the problem was that I did not have the 2015 redistributable installed, because I could not think of anything else.  Now, I've found something else, and fixed it, and I'm still getting the crash.

Requested information like logs, a copy of error message were not provided.
The message most likely mentioned bloatware installed with graphics drivers. I suggest to carefully read the entire message and clicks its links to further help and read that as well. See https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum.

All executables in the DynDOLOD are x64 versions as can be seen from their filenames. Since everything is x64, only the x64 versions of the redistributable and .NET Desktop are required as explained. Installing separate x86 versions is not required and consequently are not part of the instructions.

If something in the instructions is unclear, then make a post with concrete feedback, information about it. See https://dyndolod.info#DynDOLOD-3-Alpha.
So far what I gathered is that MS changed the name of the latest Redistributable recently and thus the instruction were outdated. That has been updated in the meantime.

Sorry, I'm not used to people in forums being...  Nice is the word I'm looking for, I think?  So I'm having a hard time telling people apart from bots.  It goes against the norm to post something and not have the first or second reply call me an idiot without reading the post, I appreciate that you actually read my post and heard me out, even though I was being an idiot this time.  I put zero thought into the setup of DynDOLOD and assumed that it itself was the problem when I encountered an error, and went into problem elimination mode.
The mod crashed in generating a texture from Whiterun, so I disabled every mod which directly impacts Whiterun (something I should have done from the beginning), and it went just fine.  Then, I realized I'd disabled a mod which (I think, it's really unclear because the mod page doesn't mention LODs at all, only the comments do) requires DynDOLOD to generate a LOD, and I restarted DynDOLOD with that mod on, and I still got an error, while generating a building this time.  Unfortunately, I think I just have to suck it and play without a LOD for JK's Whiterun Outskirts.  Here's the error in-case you need it, sorry to have bothered you for a crash which isn't even DynDOLOD's fault;

Gu[04:39] Error: OpenGL: invalid operation from TwbRender.LoadTexture for 3B505FEF while processing 3B505FEF (4) while processing textures\lod\hhbuildingslod02.dds.rocessing textures\lod\hhbuildingslod02.dds.

PS: Actually, wrong again.  Still getting the error after disabling the mod in question, I don't know why it went for so long without crashing that one particular time.

PS: Actually the problem isn't fixed and I still need help.

Read https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum#Post-Logs which DynDOLOD log, debug log and bugreport.txt to upload when making posts.

Disabling something is typically a troubleshooting step and not a fix, especially when trying to circumvent errors or problems. Research the issue and report problems to the official DynDOLOD support forum, so they can be properly troubleshooted and fixed, whatever their reasons are.

The error message has a link Click on this link for additional explanations and help for this message as explained in https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum#Read-Log-and-Error-Messages that opens https://dyndolod.info/Messages/Exceptions. Scroll to the OpenGL section and read it, especially:
Always use the latest version of DynDOLOD/TexGen as explained above.
This can be also a bug with the tools encountering unexpected situations. Add GLDebug=1 under [TexGen|DynDOLOD] in ..\DynDOLOD\Edit Scripts\DynDOLOD\[TexGen|DynDOLOD]_[GAME MODE].INI and make a report with the log, debug log and bugreport.txt as explained on the official DynDOLOD support forum.

Version 3.00 Alpha 198
DynDOLOD.exe - added a work-around for an invalid operation with AMD drivers
