How to: Replace Missing Texture!

Question

Posted

Hello, I am missing textures for a few specific things, it seems to only affect tables, bookshelves and only the flat wooden planks on them. Is there an easy way to just put the appropriate textures in? Where can one find downloads for them and how do you know which ones you need?

Thank you!

Open console, click on the thing with missing texture, note first two digits, check with WB/MO/NMM which mod is that, reinstall that mod. And check Skyrim cache in steam

It seems Dragonborn is the culprit, which leaves me in the conundrum of not know how to install/uninstall expansions on Steam...

Any help in that regard?

Since the DLCs are packed in ESP/BSA format, all you need to do is disable the Dragonborn ESP and Skyrim won't use any of the files.  It will be uninstalled as far as Skyrim is concerned (but still on your hard drives).

Hm, alright, but when I re-activate it will still have the faulty textures, or? Is my only recourse a full reinstall?

If something's broken in the archive, disabling/enabling won't fix anything.  Have you verified the game contents via Steam?  That should make sure nothing's broken.

Well, I had to resort to a new install, but with the new release of STEP maybe that was for the best anyway! Everything seems to be working fine now, so thanks!

Sorry, maybe I'm just slow, but how do I use the first two digits to find the mod using Mod Organizer and how does one associate item ID's to mods using mod organizer? The ID I need to search is ff000fee.

If you do this you get the ID of the mesh the texture is applied too. Textures do not have formID´s

So this method is only so useful. Which is also why its a bit of a task to identify a missing texture!

However if you know which mesh it is (by doing the above, then you can get the .nif name in tes5edit or the CK), then you can use nifskope to isolate the texture by loading up the mesh in there and apply the texture.

This requires that you have extracted the .bsa archives to work however.

At least that is how I find them, and check if they are working again... much faster then going in and out of the game many times. But it does require a bit of practice.

And to answer your question lol! :)

The first three digits tell you the location on the load order of the mod. Then you can backtrack to find the mod it belongs too.
