Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback

Recommended Posts

Yes Skyrim Project optimization is worth it... it does not do anything that hurts.. at least I have not experienced any issues or heard of them unless you use some house mods etc.

Walkman: if you find the dungeons to dark you can use a very simple ENB config to just increase interior brightness values to suit your needs. The most easy way to do it imo... no need for some strange "brighter dungeons with ENB" mod and yet another .esp to the load order. Also RLO is too good now to pass up imo.

RLO + CoT 3.0 is going to be the best around until the others get some love from their authors.

Thanks for the help, Aiyen. So, do you find RLO better than RCRN? I spent this weekend trying out various solutions and RCRN, thus far, has been pretty good for me.

On another note, somehow my Steam launcher got triggered and I got updated to 1.9. Freaked out for a bit then tried playing and so far everything seems ok, with SKSE and some other obvious changes of course. I took the opportunity to try some other gameplay mods and change some of my install items. Damn Steam!

RCRN is the package for people who just want an install button for all their weather lighting etc. stuff.

However for every feature RCRN has there exist an individual mod that does the same, and most of the time better because they are more updated.

RLO is just the latest example. I also prefer an ENB config over RCRN´s weird "ENB" lite solution.

If you look at the scope of CoT 3.0 compared to the weathers in RCRN... then it is not even a contest.

Also I do really not like their 70´s commercial nexus site... it just makes the small hairs in my neck raise every time I see it. :D

So, here's a rough spot I ran into going through the guide. Might be just my bad, but I present it in case other people get confused:

When I get to the Tools section of DDSOpt, a link to Settings and INI are provided, but my eyes passed right over them as the directions to use them were not as explicit as much of the rest of the guide is.

The other, also related to DDSOpt, are lines like the following:

"Click the [browse] button near the top text box and select the temporary vanilla directory(i.e. C:/Working/Vanilla)."

I did not realize that "select" meant "Use Folder" as appears to be laid out by the Settings link. It is possible that making this more explicit could be useful to people.

Good point.

It would also be useful to put in recommendations about which mods not to optimize (or half size the normals on) - especially for the larger texture mods that would otherwise seem attractive to do this to.

General rule for half sizeing normals... stuff you need to look at up close is a bad idea. So here character textures, armor and weapons etc. Landscape still looks good at a distance, but if you go up close to something you can notice the change.

Also there are some issues with textures that are not square... since then you will get more noticeable stretching. Here trees are a prime example.
