Handling .nxm links with nxmhandler.exe?

xXReDxSparoweXx

Question

Hello!

I've been trying to find a direct answer to my problem and forgive me if I'm, well I'm a little slow? Not kidding =(

It's just always been hard for me to learn anything without proper instructions. Everything is basically a "slap myself in the face" kind of moment for me.

I've been putting this off for some time now and was hesitant to ask because I didn't really have a problem with just doing everything manually for NMM and Fallout 4 Modding.

I'm trying to get Mod Organizer to download mods from the Nexus for Skyrim and have Nexus Mod Manager download mods from the Nexus for Fallout 4.

I know it's possible, I just can't get the handler.exe to work correctly?

My game data directories are not the default one's either, but they are set up and organized. (OCD, like really bad OCD)

I have Mod Organizer and Skyrim installed to my SSD drive, as well as Steam. Basically, my SSD literally has Skyrim, Steam, Mod Organizer, Photoshop, Illustrator, Nifskope, Creation Kit, etc.

Fallout 4 and Nexus Mod Manager are installed into a new Steam Library I created on my Storage Drive (drive #2). This is where everything else defaults to as well. My User folders, other programs that I don't care to install on my SSD.

*If any of the above information helps*

Thank you to anybody who reads this and provides some input!

Run nxmhandler.exe.
Right click in window that opens and select "Add".
A wew window opens.
Click on "Other" to make it selected.
Click the grey box with three dots next to "Select Binary" field.
Browse to Nexus mod managers excutable where it is installed on your PC.
Click on the NMM executable and select "Open" to return to the main window.
Click "OK".
A new entry will be made with Other as the name in the Supported Games column.
Double click on "Other" to edit the game and enter "fallout4" and press enter.
Click close to exit nxmhandler.exe.

You should be set to go.

Hey, thanks for replying and my apologies for my late response.

I setup the handler as you mentioned but upon testing a download from the Skyrim Nexus, I got and error from NMM saying that the game was not managed by it. Which is correct seeing how it's managed by MO

Does NMM have to be installed in the FO4 folder? I currently have it installed in its own program folder - "D:\Nexus Mod Manager"

Mod Organizer, on the other hand, is installed in my Skyrim root folder, in its own folder - "C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Mod Organizer"

Could the installation path for NMM be my problem, meaning I should reinstall NMM in my Fallout 4 folder, just as I did with MO being installed into my Skyrim folder?

Appreciate the feedback!

-PS- German Shepherds are terrific companions! My Shep, Beau, passed away some years back and as much as I would love to get another pup, replacing Beau is something I don't think I could do. (sorry to get off topic there haha.)

No, before you do anything drastic could you open nxmhandlers.ini in notepad and copy and paste the contents here?

I couldn't agree more.

I am eager to see how this plays out. I also have multiple games that are managed by Mod Managers. I use versions 1.3.11 for Skyrim and Fallout NV. Then use 2.07 for Fallout 4 and I run into the same error when I use the Skyrim or FNV versions. I can do work with nxmhandler.exe to get one of them working but it breaks the others. I have read several posts here to swap between them but it is a lot of overhead to update my mods.

I have Mod Manager installed in each of the game directories so 3x separate versions.

There is a very easy way to ensure MO is only used to handle the games you want it to. Install NMM and use it to handle all the games you want it to, in this case Fallout 4, and ensure it is not set for any other.

Next install MO and set it up to handle all the other games such as Skyrim, Fallout 3 etc. This way you don't have to add anything extra in the NXMHandler window as only the games you specify are listed.

I use this method for Witcher 3 and all the Bethesda games. NMM for Witcher, MO for everything else.

If you already have NMM set to handle games such as Skyrim you can "Choose Game Mode" (2nd icon on the top-right) and scan for all installed games. Deselect all the games you want MO to handle and select ONLY those that you want NMM to, press OK. NMM should now be set to use Nexus for only those games.

So, I have to remove the Fallout 4 lines from my INI to get MO to work correctly again?

No, you can set it to "Other" as @GSDFan suggests, but since it is not needed I find it simpler to just remove it. I use a similar process with Witcher 3 via NMM and all the Bethesda games, except FO4, via MO.

At this stage in my modding experience I will use NMM for Morrowind and Dragon Age... I use MO due to the ease in use of tools and virtual break up of my mods. I run my games on 200+ mods at minimum and merge many of the small ones. My issues started when I broke out the use of MO2 with Fallout 4 and the older version with Oblivion, Skyrim and FNV (Tale of two Wastelands). At this point I uninstalled NMM and am trying to work out my conflicts with the four versions of MO on my machine.

I am nearly onto a stable build of Fallout 4 while I wait for the next S.T.E.P release and then tackle Skyrim again. You guys are awesome here!! Big fan :)

Correction. The extra setting that is initially called "other" MUST be renamed to match the game that you are downloading.

ie. Fallout 4 == fallout4 in the 'Supported Games' column
