DROPPED Diverse Priests (by Captain Lhurgoyf)
NiennaNenmacil replied to Eliian's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Also using this mod, like it very much. I've only encountered conflicts with other mods that edits NPCs because only one change can be applied. But I don't think there are any other mods in STEP that modify the priests, so this should be compatible. -
Sound Propagation Overhaul by rohverK This is a very new sound mod that I think fits with STEP pretty well. It doesn't change or replace any of the vanilla sounds (though it does use some previously unused sound files), it just changes the way sounds are played. It increases the radius at which you can hear certain sounds, and generally increases the volume across the board. It also alters footstep sounds to play effects according to what armor you are wearing and what ground you are walking on. is a link to Brodual's video previewing the mod, which is also embedded in the mod description.

Error When Applying BCFs
NiennaNenmacil replied to NiennaNenmacil's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Every time I post a problem I'm having with a mod, I fix it for myself 5 minutes later. I didn't realize that the BCF converters made new packages, so I wasn't looking for them. I also have 400+ packages in my installers tab, so they got lost in there somewhere. So I have the working packages now. Excuse my ignorance :) -
I'm currently in the process of removing the Texture Pack Combiner from my mod lineup and using the individual mods according to STEP for more control over the textures that I use. I'm currently having problems with 2 files however, the Skill Interface Retexture - Dawnguard addon, and the Real Ice - All In One Installer. I have the appropriate BCF files dropped in the BAIN Converters folder. I can right click on the installers and apply the conversion. But when I do, the progress bar stops at about 10%, then seems to finish and I get this error in a new window: Traceback (most recent call last): Â File "bash\basher.pyo", line 11329, in Execute AttributeError: 'InstallerConverter' object has no attribute 'hasBCF' And the package is still greyed out in the installers tab. This happens with both of these packages. I don't know anything about how this process works so I don't know what the problem is. I've tried deleting the BCF, closing WB, redownloading the BCF and reopening WB, but the error persists. Any ideas?

Yeah, I'm really not sure what's going on with this. With Extreme STEP, plus a couple extra textures from the TPC (including 4K SRO), and a whole whack of extra gameplay mods, I crash often. Anywhere between 5 mins and 40 mins depending on where I am. I remove the TPC file and I have no signs of instability. I played for 2 hrs 15 mins last night with no crashing and I was around the wooded areas in Falkreath. However, even with the few textures I have, I'm am averaging 1600 MB of VRAM use, and it did max out at 2 GB once, albeit very briefly. I have the creature/armor textures, and a couple of the clutter textures, but almost none of the environment textures and I do not have the official Hi Res DLC enabled. That usage seems high to me. If I get around to it today, I will do a fresh install on my SSD, and I will actually do the benchmarking as I reinstall STEP and my other mods to see where my VRAM is getting used up. It could be that with my experimenting I've got some files leftover somewhere, so things could be different once I clean up the Skyrim folder.

Ah, I didn't know that, thank you. I'll see about moving it back then.
-
Also no. I had moved Skyrim to my SSD through Steam Mover, but I had a lot of trouble with different programs, including Steam and the Steam Mover, forgetting where Skyrim was. I had to move it back when Steam decided to redownload Skyrim and I had no way of running it. I suppose I can reinstall Steam to my SSD, I was just reluctant to do that because of the limited space there, and thus not being able to have many Steam games installed at once. In any case, when it was on my SSD for that brief period, I didn't seem to notice any significant increase in stability. But that may change now with the adjustments I've made since then.

I have not.

Since I've last posted I have not had any more instances of black or purple textures, other than when I was actually missing the textures from the game files. I am still crashing however, and the only thing I can tie it to is my VRAM. It's maxed constantly, and it's making the game unstable. The crashes are completely random, or so it seems, and they always happen outdoors in heavily wooded areas. I don't get stuttering however, and I've never gone over 3GB of system RAM used. My RAM is always relatively low when I crash, but it's gone well above and been fine, so I'm fairly confident it's my VRAM. I've installed a few more mods since last time, but nothing graphical. Nothing I would've expected to jack up my VRAM usage. I've even optimised all of my textures and my 2GB are still used up. It runs fine after uninstalling my TPC file. I'm going to stop using the TPC entirely however, because it seems I now need a bit more control over which textures I use. I've got the SRO file, but only the 4K version, and there isn't anywhere to get the lite version from what I understand. Going to try to trim down my texture files and my tree mods to keep myself under my VRAM cap. A new GPU will probably be my next upgrade hehe.

I just wanted to update again, as I appear to have found the stability I was looking for. 1: I started using a program called CleanMem at the suggestion of this fix on the Nexus: https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/32363 You tell the program which application to clear the memory cache from and how often you'd like it to run. It appears to be working as evidenced by the graphs produced from my Skyrim Performance Monitor. I still experienced crashes and missing textures however, so it appears that memory was not my problem. If you are certain that the RAM usage is the cause of your crashes though, this may help. 2: I decided to test my game after removing both the official high res DLC and it's respective unofficial patch and my texture pack combiner file. After that my crashes stopped and I did not experience any missing textures. I put the texture pack combiner file back in and still experienced no crashes. So it seems that having the high res DLC, either by itself or in combination with my other high res textures is what was causing my instability. With both of them together, my VRAM was pretty much consistently at it's max, and it has decreased significantly after disabling the DLC. My crashes appeared to become more random, both in when and where they happened, and I couldn't find anything to tie them together, which is what led me to test my textures. I can't say for sure if the problem was with the DLC itself, or if it was having it with the TPC that caused my VRAM to max. I don't really care to test it however, since the TPC with the remainder of STEP replaces most textures anyway with a better resolution. I was able to play last night for over 3 hours with zero crashing and zero textures missing. My previous longest play session was 1h20min, so I'm quite satisfied at this point.

I think I'm going to try downgrading some of my texture files today. I have a fair number of 4k textures, most notably in the trees, maybe capping at 2k will see an improvement? Update: There was not really any discernable difference, either in performance or in stability after reducing my 4K textures.

I use Wrye Bash. I used NMM for a long time before I found S.T.E.P., then when I reverted to a clean install I figured I should learn how to work Wrye Bash. I decided to follow S.T.E.P. and start from scratch because of my instability issues in my previous game. Now that I think about it, I had this problem back then, too, although it was actually much more frequent.

I previously had my Skyrim installed on my HDD, and I moved it to my SSD using Steam Mover. I've since had numerous problems with programs (including Steam) trying to figure out where my game or my mods were installed, so I've just now moved it back. I've had this missing textures problem regardless of where my game was installed. Moving it to my SSD was an attempt at gaining more stability. Edit: This isn't to say you aren't right, just trying to provide more info.

My apologies for not providing information. I did read the thread, but I didn't have time when I posted to provide my specs, and I hoped there would be some additional discussion based on the OP's information. OS: Windows 7 64-bit Processor: Intel i5-3570k @ 3.4GHz RAM: 8GbGPU: AMD Radeon HD 7800 (1.7 Gb VRAM) Resolution: 1920x1080 And Skyrim is installed on my SSD, as well as my OS Driver Version 9.12.0 with default settings. I applied the S.T.E.P. recommendations as best I could, but there were settings I couldn't seem to find. I can play for anywhere between about 45min to 1h20min without experiencing issues. After ~1hr my game will either crash, or I will start seeing the purple/black textures and then crash soon after. The textures tend to appear on items in inventories and on NPCs. I would also like to note that I am testing out this memory leak fix https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/32363 It hasn't appeared to have affected my stability. I hope it's not a case of having too many HD textures. The game looks so great, and still runs really well for the hour or so that it can.

I have the exact same issue. After a while I get the missing textures/meshes popping up, usually when I load an interior. Reloading the game brings them back, but sure enough the problem resurfaces eventually.
