Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback

Seems Real Shelter has been hidden: The reason given by the author is: So heres the deal. MO can't recognize the zip file. Why I do not know, but I am not at work and have 0 way to check this. Why this one installation is so difficult I will have no idea. Ill chalk it under karma I guess. Now I had no problem installing Real Shelter but I have noticed a certain irregularity of the snowfall when passing between shelters. Unsure if that is connected. -

I did and he very helpfully pointed me to the effects.txt.ini file in the enb series folder. Turning off the grain effects fixed the issue right up :) I guess what I was seeing as a problem was a YMMV thing. -

Just finished testing the injector version (Turns out it was actually detecting my Graphics card, it was just listing it as "Radeon HD 7900 series" rather than "R9 270" and as far as I am aware the two are pretty much synonymous) Still get the same fuzzy overlay to everything which wasn't present prior to the Vividian update. It only ever appears in the game world rather than the loading screens and is most noticeable against darker areas (inside the inns, for instance.) Although looking at the screenshot below, I'm not sure if you can even see what's wrong :/ All I know is this wasn't how it appeared previously. Also whenever I use a torch it brightens up the whole room rather than appearing "Dim". At this point I am utterly at a loss as to where I may have gone wrong as I have now gone through the guide with a tooth comb and cross-checked all the .ini files. If no-one else is noticing a problem, though, I imagine the fault lies either with my inability to follow basic instructions (again) or it's something else for a different thread. Edit: Something else that just occurred. I seem to get the same effect with certain videos too so I wonder if this is a monitor issue I have only just noticed. I'll see what tweaking that does. -

One thing I noticed that may be the reason for the lack of visual quality. Instead of the ENB detecting my Graphics Card it's making use of the integrated one. I recall seeing some threads regarding this issue and the recommendations tended toward installing the injector version. Could it be there is a setting I am over-looking that will fix this, though? -

Right. After moving the ENB Manager to another location it appears that the enbhost.exe and d3d9.dll files are still being imported into the Skyrim directory. Is this a problem? -

Thank you. I will take a look as soon as I've finished tweaking Vividian. -

Just going through the installation process again for Vividian and I noticed this: "Navigate to <Mod Organizer Path>/mods/Vividian - Weather - Lighting Enhancement/Vividian ENB Install Files then select all files and folders contained within except enblocal.ini and click [Add]." There doesn't appear to be an enblocal.ini in the Install Files directory. Also am I right in understanding that we should retain the filetree structure when we add these files? -

So, for the sake of maybe splitting them up for the sake of avoiding possible conflicts I'll move the ENB Manager files to a separate directory. I ended up putting it in there for convenience's sake (along with BOSS, TES5Edit, Wrye Bash and SaveTool) -

After hiding both the mesh and texture from all the mods that alter it, still nothing. And it appears to only affect the Talos statue in the Windhelm Temple. Very weird. To be honest I've never actually visited that part of Windhelm before on previous playthoughs and if it wasn't for the aspects where it just doesn't look right I'd have actually thought it was intentional. -

I managed to get a screenshot of an instance where it is most visible but it isn't showing up too well. It is far more noticeable in-game. It's almost like a static film grain that shows up most prominently in dark areas. As for my folders. Within the steam>steamapps>common>skyrim directory where I have the TESV.exe I have: Folders: ENB Configs containing the config files for Vividian ENB 7 beta 2 ENB Overwrite containing an enbseries.ini ENB Versions containing the 0.266 folder and SkyrimDir.txtENB Series folder containing all the files copied over to the manager in the final step of the installation guide for the mod.As independent files there's: d3d9.dll, ENB_Manager.jar, enbhost.exe, enblocal.ini and enbseries.ini. Comparing my setup with yours I wonder if I'e installed the ENB Manager incorrectly. -

One of the first things I tried. The effect is similar to what you see with the candles there. It's like the statue has been carved out of tar :P It's quite a cool effect, actually, but I get the feeling that it's not intended. -

Encountered an issue with the Vividian Beta. After installing it my game seems to have a rather grainy filter over everything (excluding loading screens) I can't get a screenshot that displays it, unfortunately, but it's almost like television static. Has anyone experienced this before? Since it has only started happening since updating Vividian, it may well be that there is some sort of conflict or error going on with how I installed the ENB in the first place so if anyone could tell me what ENB related folders I should have in my Skyrim directory that may help narrow down any lingering remnants of older ENB setups. -

After reinstalling the above lighting mods, It appears there has been no change. Oddly enough you can see the reflections of the light on it. It's like there is no colour on this specific model. -

After reinstalling Stunning Statues of Skyrim, I know that that is not the issue (And this is the only instance in which this has occurred to a Talos statue thus far. I have followed the SR:LE guide and, as such, I do use an ENB: Vividian 7.0 beta (although the previous version also had the dark statue issue) along with the ENB Terrain Parallax Fix, Enhanced Lighting For ENB, Enhanced Lights and FX, Relighting Skyrim and Project Parallax Remastered As far as I can tell those are the ones that are the potential contributors. I am now reinstalling them to see if I can narrow it down. -
Probably because so many people here are mod-authors themselves and so are in a better position to be able to see the more nuanced elements to this debacle. And those members who don't have probably become used to the pace and pitfalls of modding their game and thus have learned to be (or already were) more patient than your average consumer. Not to blow our own horns or anything. :)

In all the hullaballoo Real Shelter updated and looks like the installation method is different. -
Oh I'm under no delusions as to the quality of random steam users. The Nexus at least has a degree of collective experience with modding beyond just pressing a subscribe button until the game breaks. Which has merely resulted in a more creative form of protest (I admit I got a bit of a chuckle out of 'Beth') Which no doubt actually makes it all the more hurtful as what should be the more dedicated part of the community turns on their own. Oddly enough, though, I reckon the donate buttons have been pressed far more in the past 24 hours than they have for months before now.
-
At least Chesko's damage control seems to have kept the wolves at bay. Isoku on the other hand? He's been mostly silent on the matter and he's getting torn to shreds.

Was just looking at the changelogs on the iNeed and Wet & Cold updates. Honestly, the comments sections on the Steam Workshop pages are just vile. Heck I'm used to internet smacktalk but it really is wall to wall whining self-entitlement. Who in their right mind would want to even lift a finger for these people if they'll start doxxing attempts for the sake of chump change? The nexus might have its fools but the steam community... ughh >.<
-
Whatever comes of this, if this new venture is to have any legs in the future I think it's clear it will have to do so by its own merits as the public reaction to it just on principle has been damning. Speaking personally i wasn't all that fussed by the idea of paying for any updates to mods I like. It's only fair, really, and it's actually made me think I should start chipping into some of the donate pots on the nexus more often than I currently do. It was that little proviso of "No refunds after 24 hours. For support, ask the mod maker nicely." in the terms and conditions that first made me question it. We all know how lengthy troubleshooting a mod can be, coupled with the financial element, so I could foresee that becoming a big issue. Following that and looking through the particulars regarding how much the mod makers get out of this arrangement (Though if I feel they are being short-changed, there's nothing to stop me donating directly as well, right?) It cemented my misgivings. It's the organisation and presentation that's flawed, imo, and makes me dubious of the whole endeavour. Not some attachment to a high-falutin' but self serving ideal of a free modding community (to which I contribute nothing much save reams of text) The idea may still work and find its customer-base but it needs a lot of work if I'm to feel as comfortable using it as the Nexus (That and with Chesko gone there isn't anything uploaded yet that I'm all that interested in... apart from maybe SKY UI when it goes up... IF it goes up.) Steam cornered the PC gaming market by providing "A better product than the pirates"... but that was a few years ago. Now? If this is anything to show for it they've lost a lot of their edge.

Not sure if this was addressed at my comment but to restate it: I personally feel the self-entitled and vicious backlash from a shockingly large number of vocal dissenters is unwarranted. At the same time, though, just checking Chesko's remaining mod pages: Frostfall and the Reddit thread where he posted his point of view, there has been a lot of sympathy (if coupled with some lofty chiding) and offers of donations. The calmer heads of the modding community are pulling together to support one of their own even if there is the usual white-noise of selfish ******s poisoning the well. The reason I place most of the blame on Valve and Bethesda in this is the sheer mismanagement of it. They set up the crooked fairground stall with the take stacked in their favour, the laughable support and returns policy and a demonstable degree of incompetence/ contempt for the work of modders in allowing content to be uploaded without getting the consent of all the contributors. There is no shortage of people who are willing to donate and offer support. But no one wants to be scammed. Who knows, though. Maybe this will help galvanise the community to support mod-makers more now that Nexus has decided to finally update its donation policy.
-
Edit: Sauce plz? Thankfully I grabbed her previous version before all this went down but I was looking forward to the update along with Frostfall 3.0 so much. This has been a complete ****-show. The main villains of the piece, imo, are Valve and Bethesda for this joke of a venture. Chesko may have been misled/naive and but he did not deserve the sheer amount of bile that went with the backlash. Add to that the way Valve's legal is screwing him on his decision to bow to consumer pressure... What much else is there to say? This is hardly the end of the world as we know it, or any of the other hyperbolic *****-fitting that the keyboard warriors on Steam and the Nexus have been making it out to be, but the loss is great if losing modders like him is the outcome.

Looks like someone's missed the memo about the direction the wind seems to be blowing.
