After a STEP install that ended-up being uninstalled for many reasons (ENB not working, INI files way too messed up, apparent lighting issues - fake issue after all) I decided to start a new install. Although my first one was a carefull managed task, I did some mistakes due to unknowing what will be next. Now, with prior experience, I want to state my goals, to ask some questions and to ask for advices before I go with my new installation. My goals: A full STEP extended high quality install with a good ENB to deliver beautifull imagery while keeping framerate playable. I have a good enough rig in my oppinion: i5 4690 @3.5GHz 2x 8GB RAM @1600 GTX 1070 boost @2.0GHz Windows 7 Ultimate on 850 EVO SSD Skyrim will install on new folder named Games, on the same SSD as the OS. Some questions: 1. Extended STEP means ALL mods listed, EXCEPT if they are recommended not to be installed for various motives (they will be included in final STEP Extended Patch, etc.). But then, what about ENB compatibility? If a mod has ENB related guidelines, should I follow those guideline from the start, or should I change the mod after completing STEP install? 2. High quality: Should I choose ALWAYS the highest quality where available, or 2048 for example should be enough? 3. INI settings: is there a point in setting the INIs at the start? As I discovered, BethINI makes wonders. Wouldn`t running BethINI at the end be better? 4. ENBoost: Same as above. Wouldn`t setting up the enblocal.ini at the end be better? 5. ENB Presets: My previous STEP install CTD after an ENB install. Should I use a ENB manager of some sort? Or manually install ENB would be better? Asking for advices: Now, as you know what I want, I kindly ask for any advice regarding my STEP Extended Install. Wanting to use an ENB Preset (like Vividian or RealVision) should make me consider something particular during install? Having 8GB of vram should make me consider something particular when setting up INIs? Any other advices? Thankyou!!! P.S. I will come here periodically asking for help if nedeed.

I WILL start a fresh Skyrim STEP install. Thank you for helping. I`ll start a new thread to ask for pre-installation advices and to ask for during-installation help.

SO, should I proceed with a new install? Should I consider I`m just ok with all?

Ok, I watched some videos on youtube with the intros and they all seem to have the same burnout lighting: watch it from around 24th minute. Also, to compare with the below images, watch the video at around 21:40 to see the burnout carriage. I upload some more image taken on a vanilla skyrim: https://postimg.org/image/tdkq1h83t/https://postimg.org/image/4yci0f96x/https://postimg.org/image/q9enifgp5/https://postimg.org/image/wbma8x555/

Ok, so I installed again Skyrim. even more, I installed it using my old DVD, so launch version of Skyrim, no DLCs, no updates. The lighting issue is still there. It must be something my GPU is not handling right. I have a GTX 1070. I never saw these issues before with my old GTX 560ti.
-
But i can't think of any application that would interfere with the game running. Maybe something happened on installation process.
-
Writing from my smartphone now but gamma corections was set to on. I set it to off with same issue. Yes. One question: how is nvidia inspector work? How can i disable the settings made in there? I will do a fresh install tomorow but really, how am i certain that all settings including driver settings are erased?
-
Did it. Same result. I will reinstall everything from star and I will run the new game until this dragon attack to see after what subsection (if) this lighting issue appears. I`ll come back with details. I did something: I deactivated all STEP mods and run the game (vanilla I presume but with enboost active, run through skse in MO). The same lighting issue!!!
-
I do run LOOT every time I change something inside MO. In LOOT, I have no master errors. The ELE is the one for STEP, 86kb in size. Nvidia Inspector settings are as prescribed in the guide. STEP Extended Patch is installed and checked under plugin tab. I am running Windows 7 64bit. MO is managing the archives (the box is checked above archive panel under archive tab). All archives are checked, though most archives are greyed out (but checked). I don`t recall any errors when I created the bashed patch. It is also checked under plugins tab.

Ok, I am a noob that really does his homework. ;) Except, doing my homework I`ve got lost in it. So I really apreaciate the help!!! I did the benchmark (carriage intro until first autosave) after every subsection of STEP. I have to say that, even now, running the carriage intro the light doesn`t look weird. So, I have no ideea WHEN this lighting weirdness occured. I install ALL STEP mods, at their highest quality (where available). I didn`t skipped any of the mods EXCEPT Skyrim Enhanced Camera (I believe at your advice, as it was worsening my flickering). I didn`t install any other mod EXCEPT Crash Fixes v11 for it made it possible to circumvent CTD after STEP complete install. Practically I give up. Too many, way too many issues: no enb, aura around characters (fixed in ini`s, but messing shadows) and now lightning issues that I can`t identify. It took me one week to install step. I really don`t know where I messed things up. Anyway, although STEP is really well made, still lacks in some points the clarity needed for those that really follow orders rather than truly understand what they are doing (I am one of those noobs - hello). For now, if lightning can`t be fixed, I won`t be reinstalling STEP again soon. Maybe waiting for next version.
-
Ok, I`ll try it tomorow
-
gamma is 1.0000 as the ini`s are generated by Bethini. In game brightness is at the middle and actually it doesn`t seem to work.
-
Ok, so after installing STEP extended, I started my character and right at the dragon battle, these are some images that don`t look right to me. They seem to burned, contrast is too high in some situations. Maybe somene can tell me what is going on with it: https://postimg.org/image/h8fy0lzct/https://postimg.org/image/cntrlofnh/https://postimg.org/image/iq1ec643h/https://postimg.org/image/vvgwi9xz1/https://postimg.org/image/vk41j96wt/

yes, here it is:

I don`t have a directx10 folder (neither any directx folder) into main Skyrim folder. Unfortunately I can`t make any enb to work. I tried Vividian and Skylight and neither work. The game loads, the ENB loads, as I can see the top/left message about boris vorontsov etc., than I can even open the ENB menu via SHIFT+F12. But as soon as I try to start a new game (I have no saved files, so only new game) the game shows the loading page (with ENB effects clearly visible) and after it CTD.
-
I have done this already. I also made a copy of the Skyrim folder before STEP instalation. I also deleted all folders except DATA and MO plus other utilities I installed inside Skyrim folder. Than copied the backuped files. After I delete all files from the enb, my game runs just ok. My problem, I believe, is that enblocal.ini file. I STEP guide, there is a recomandation to copy over only some sections. But those sections .should I copy from my own file to the enb preset file or vice versa?
-
I tried realvision as well as another enb i can't remember its name. After installing the enb, following its instalation description, I have a CTD just on the loading window after choosing a new game (I am on a clean step install). Can someone help with installing enb? A for dummies guide, as following the guides i found including at step don'work, by my foult most certanly.

Clean STEP install performance help
eperdos replied to eperdos's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Now, can someone help me with an ENB like say realvision. How to install it? Step by step if possible, treat me like a noob. I tried instaling like this: downloaded from nexus. Installed with MO, choose manual install, went to RealVision files folder, copied all files in there, including enbseries folder to the main Skyrim folder. Game crashes first loading window. -

Wow, author of bethini! Thankyou! Really yes, high is great settings. I tried it and my fps improved alot. Also flickering is gone. Great indeed. -

eperdos replied to eperdos's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Ok, now i understand. Now about enb. Step recomends not to everwrite enblocal.ini but copy over some sections. What is not clear is: should i copy from my own enblocal file to preset file or viceversa? -
Clean STEP install performance help
eperdos replied to eperdos's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Now, I have a question: BethINI changes the INIs according to STEPs indication plus adding whatever it things appropriate, or changes that STEP requires at the begining of a new install are overwritten? Should I pass again through first sections of STEP and change the new BethINIs? -
Clean STEP install performance help
eperdos replied to eperdos's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I missed the windowed mode check button after hitting default. It is all good now. On High I get steady 60s with drops to 56-57 and a steady 55 at Helgen entrance. No flickering, no stuttering. Seems that problem was with Ultra for the distant objects. Even at Ultra, though frames drop to 40s at Helgen entrance and stabilise to 50fps, at least flickering is gone without z-fighting settings that made drops to low 30s. I will do some ini comparison to see what differences do I have between BethINI and default INIs. Thanks! -
Clean STEP install performance help
eperdos replied to eperdos's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Interesting. I did this with BethINI, and it changet it to windowed mode with in turn not only gave better frames (same spots but with fps drops to mid 50s but also no or less annoying stutters) but also adressed the mountain flickering. How is this possible? Would it be only the windowed mode? I don`t like playing in windowed, at least I would like borderless window. I`ll try more INI tweeking now. -
Clean STEP install performance help
eperdos replied to eperdos's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Ok, I finished installing STEP. My performance issue (also the flickering issue) are still unsolved. Even though flickering can be solved by removing SEC mod and applying z-fighting settings, the performance cost (at least in my case) is quite big. So, I reverted my ini`s to STEPs default. And here we go with performance issue: During intro carrriage road, from time to time (always in the same location) there is a masive drop in framerate, from a steady 60 fps to lower 50s or even lower 40s (with z-fighting settings applied, drops are even worse, to lower 30s). Now, as far as fps I am not concerned. But these drops come with clear, annoying lag or stutter or name it as you want. it ir really like the game freezes for a couple of frames or so. Now, this is not very good im my perspective, given the hardware I play on. I state my rig again: i5 4690 16 GB ram (2x 8GB) GTX 1070 8GB Vram 500GB SSD Are there any solution to my performance issue?Thanx!
