Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback
danielleonyett replied to Neovalen's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
So it seems like Tony's new files are more in line with STEP's in that optimizing the first 3 DLC's is redundant. Whereas the STEP DDSOpt guide mentions this, Tony has not done so. And I think a lot of people don't realize this issue because they either keep the bsa's intact (and MO is for some reason showing 1 unconflicted file for the bsa's and therefore no redundancy symbol), or because they have deleted their official HRDLC thinking that the optimized version contains every file (in which case some of the files from the first 3 optimized DLC's slide through unchallenged). Anyway, other than being similar to STEP in regards to the first 3 DLC's, Tony does appear to use different constraints and there have been a couple of mentions about some visual issues with his new files. So I may end up giving STEP's texture optimization guide a whirl. Thanks so much Kelmych! Regarding Tony's files, I didn't have any problems with any of his old files being redundant, either, so thanks for being willing to check out his new ones. I just want to make it clear that only his DG HF & DB files appear redundant when compared to the Official HRDLC (not just Tony's Optimized HRDLC files - which have fewer files). And regarding that issue, I think that Tony's Optimized HRDLC files are smaller because they probably do not include any unprocessed files from the Official HRDLC (likely due to legalities). So anyone using his Optimized HRDLC files might not want to delete their Official HRDLC bsa's as your guide suggests, since they will lose about 1000 Official HRDLC files (of course, that number would end up smaller when any of those textures happen to be provided by other mods - which I haven't looked into that deep yet). Thanks so much for including that warning about the torrent buttons. I'm hoping it might help others who, like me, had never dealt with torrent-y stuff before and ended up clicking some WAY wrong buttons! :P (yes, that was plural. buttonSSS. I spazzed out and clicked a few. maybe all over the page.) And as for the aMidianBorn stuff - I'm sure there are more important things on your list, but thanks anyway for tending to the minutiae! -

sorry. maybe I should be saying "extracted" instead of "unpacked". -

my explorer shows: my installation of tony's dawnguard optimized (unpacked bsa) = 361 mb (99 folders & 2801 files) my installation of tony's dragonborn optimized (unpacked bsa) = 574 mb (99 folders & 8862 files) my mod organizer shows that they are redundant when compared to the official HRTP's (also unpacked). then eventually some of the textures are also overridden by other mods as well. -

Well I knew what I meant.... :P Yes, a lot are. Just figured it'd save some people some space on their SSD's if they need it. :) -

but then again, I've only had one other person confirm this. so maybe I'm just totally wrong. -

Tony's 5.0 DG HF & DB files are made redundant by the official HRTP's, so they are just wasting space. and his HRTP's do not contain every file from the official HRTP's, so deleting your official HRTP's will remove about 1000 hi res texture files that Tony's HRTP's don't cover. -

and while I'm at it: can I add the STEP 2.2.9 Skyrim Realistic Overhaul warning to your guide (the warning about which download button should be clicked)? and also a note about Tony's current Optimized Textures files (of which some are redundant and also that, if using his files, the official HRTP's should not be removed because his HRTP's don't include all of the files)? (I might as well ask all at once instead of one at a time - try to save you some time ) -

Neo, for aMidianborn Solsteim Landscape you advise to not install certain texture files. I understand the reason for not installing files that you'd rather have High Resolution DLC handle, but isn't it pointless to remove textures to be handled by Serious HD since Serious HD is loaded after aMidianborn Solsteim Landscape? I realize this is potAYto/potAHto, but for the sake of continuity could I revise those Special Installation Instructions? (By continuity I mean that while installing all of the other mods in your guide, it does not appear that you normally advise to not install any files that will eventually be overridden by other mods.) -

Neo, there are 2 main files for aMidianBorn Solstheim Landscape. which one should we get? I'm thinking 2k would be your answer, but I get all uncomfortable and squeaky when you don't tell me exactly what to do and I have to figure something out for myself.... :P -

if the mod assets are already in RS Children Overhaul and RS Children Patches, then why would we need to copy them? could we not just keep those mods active (minus the esp's that ended up in the one merged esp)? Sorry if that's a stupid question. -

looks to me like neo made the edits regarding vivid landscapes, but maybe I'm just not understanding what you're saying about that. but thanks for pointing out this LOST person - I check the updates regularly and got to a point where I wasn't even looking to see who was making the edits :P maye this LOST person thinks that they are the only one who sees their own changes? -

yeah I saw your post and a couple others about some bad textures. thought about asking you for your 4.1's since I had prematurely (stupidly) got rid of them, but figure i'll just wait for Tony to get it sorted out. I'm still working on the guide anyway, so I can wait for that :) -

got one confirmation that I'm not completely crazy (on Tony's mod's comment page). Tony has still been inactive so probably hasn't seen my post yet. -

Reposting this since I had so many edits. If you uninstall the official HRTP's and only use Tony's then it seems that you will lose a bunch of HRTP textures (about 1000 en total) because Tony's 5.0 files don't contain every single file (as evidenced by looking at the folders in explorer). Official HRTP1 (unpacked) = 1214 files Tony's HRTP1 (unpacked) = 1045 files And there is more than a 400-file difference for HRTP2 and an almost 400-file difference for HRTP3. However, I think if you were to optimize the official textures yourself and have DDSOpt set to "Copy unprocessed and ignored files (passthrough)", then I believe the folders would match texture-for-texture and you could then delete the HRTP bsa's without losing any hi-res textures. Tony can't legally include those "unprocessed and ignored files" in his mod so if you delete your official HRTP's then you're losing those files (which, of course, is inconsequential if they are later provided by another mod). Yes, I understand about loose files getting priority over bsa's, but a mod contains the same files whether in a bsa or loose, no? So the reason I brought up that I had unpacked my bsa's was because of MO and how it compares files: when I install Tony's DG HF & DB bsa's (and keep them as bsa's) then MO doesn't show ANY conflicts and we can go on (wrongly) assuming that there are texture files in there that are being used by our game (but we know that all of those textures are overriding others and some are also probably being overridden by other mods). But when I UNPACK Tony's DG HF & DB bsa's, then MO shows their conflicts and (in fact) shows that they are made COMPLETELY redundant by my official HRTP's (which are also unpacked). So, to test for yourselves: unpack your official HRTP2 and unpack Tony's HF bsa. This will allow MO to compare texture file per texture file and show their conflicts, and you should see that his HF files are redundant according to MO. If you were to do this with Tony's DG & DB files and your HRTP3, then you should have the same results. So it's pointless to install them even if you keep them in bsa form (especially if they are just taking up space on an SSD). And I do want to note that I did the exact same thing with Tony's 4.1 files (unpacked them and MO compared them to my unpacked HRTP's) and Tony's 4.1 files were not completely redundant, so it seems as though these new files contain fewer textures. (I have commented on the mod author's page regarding this issue but he has not been active in the past few days so I am still waiting). -

hm. I installed each one as separate mods: optimized textures for skyrim, dawnguard, hearthfires, dragonborn, hrtp1, hrtp2, and hrtp3. in MO, the optimized textures dawnguard, hearthfires, and dragonborn all show as redundant (initially covered by official hrtp's, then also partially covered by optimized hrtp's once they are installed). I've dl'ed the files a couple of times and still get the same results (thought maybe I had a bad dl or something). Oh yeah, one important note - I have the official hrtp's unpacked so maybe this is why I am seeing the redundancy where others are not. -

hey, did anyone answer this? I did a quick google search "what is radial blur". found a before and after pic. but i think it's only applied during combat. I would guess that a setting of 2 would make it more blurry. -

so I see that NEO actually has a link to the optimized textures mod - I don' t remember seeing that previously, I had always just used them anyway. but since it's in the guide then I guess I can ask my question here (I had posted my issue on the mod but have yet to receive a response). anyway, has anyone noticed that the 3 major dlc files from that mod are redundant according to MO? -

Yeah, I noticed that mod's files for the first 3 dlc's are completely redundant if you have the original HRTP's (see my comment below yours on the mod page). That wasn't the case with 4.1. There def seems to be some issues with this update. Maybe I'll have to stop being lazy and actually optimize the files myself, as neo's guide suggests :P -

I have www.Nexusmods.com/Skyrim on my favorites bar and my account is set so that it comes up showing the "Latest Files" tab automatically. When I want to see what new files have come out, I just click on my Nexus favorite button in my favorite bar and it takes me straight to the Latest files. Then I just look through any new files until I get to a mod that I've already seen. I remember seeing that Disparity mod show up, so maybe this way would work better for you NEO? (go to edit preferences, scroll down to "Your feeds preferences" and set "Default feed tab in homepage" to "Latest Files") <--- not that you can't figure it out for yourself, just some quick instructions if you want to try it.
