Game not autosaving and resetting the difficulty level to Novice

Thank you, this fixed the problem. -
I installed the Skyrim SE v2.2.0 set up and for the past month everything has worked wonderfully. However yesterday the game stopped autosaving and now resets the difficulty level to Novice every time I go to the settings screen. I started a new game and have the same problem and went back to a saved game prior to the last time it autosaved and I have the same problem.
