SRLE: Legacy of The Dragonborn Reqtified
dps_kane replied to paul666root's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
if i understood this correctly, this is only temporary, until the elections in the states are over. the author seems a bit drastic in general, but.... well. for getting those mods back, it's just a matter of patience. but yeah, good to know nonetheless. -

SRLE: Legacy of The Dragonborn Reqtified

hello, sorry, wasn't around the last days to join the tiny discussion i started with my suggestions. about PerMa vs. Requiem: the main idea behind this suggestion was to have options listed for the curious user. i seriously do not know, how much impact it would have on the guide to offer both variants (and or ordinator). merely the suggestion that if it's just a matter of unticking 10 mods and ticking 10 other mods to switch between two setups, i think it would be great. but that was just a suggestion and i already thought there'd be issues with that idea ;) i myself haven't tried neither of those two options, but i am also more drawn to requiem, that fits more my world view. but then i didn't make this suggestion for myself ;) about the uncapper i only want to add that i myself don't intend to use it for changing the xp gain of any skill as designed by the requiem makers. i am sure they themselves spent lots of time trying to balance those things. i merely mentioned the uncapper for having at least the dream of unlocking all perks - this kind of power is taken away from requiem in comparison to the base game. also the uncapper should be clearly marked as an optional installation, maybe even recommending not to turn it on at all, unless it is indeed the wish of the user to turn from demigod to god ;) anyway - lots of thanks for keeping up the great work, paul! -

i also realized darth's sudden retirement yday. i hope it's not because i showed up here in the forum for the first time :D i'll look at that guide. even though i know about the integration, which is supposed to take 1-2 weeks, i probably will start modding nevertheless, using the SRLE base guide. i guess that once the reqtified guide is done i just have to remove a bunch of mods and add a few others, and re-run some patches (that part that is expertly explained in darth's guide at the beginning - i'd suggest to adopt that style of explanation ;)) but anyway many thanks for the information! and the great work you guys put into those guides! helps newbies like me a *lot*. -

i want to join johnnywatts in his call for the inclusion of bodyslide ;) that's probably quite a bit of extra work, especially if the guide is supposed to explain a bit the least essentials of how to use bodyslide, but .... i myself really haven't found any decent guide for it. i totally like the idea of using requiem after having done some research, but maybe, after you managed to get the guide into a stable state, you might want to consider giving the guide different overhaul options. i know, it's against the name itself "reqtified", but maybe offering the user to either make a requiem setup or a PerMa setup might be an interesting idea. also i would *definitely* include in the guide the community uncapper as an optional mod. one of the many things that makes requiem different from vanilla skyrim is that one cannot level indefinitely. which for some people is part of the fun. i know, once you are lvl 80, no enemy can compete with your character anymore, but still, for some it might be something valuable. -

i am learning new things every other day, but i am not an experienced modder. hell, i even haven't played in weeks - i just try to mod and mod :D but since this is a wiki maybe we could create a new user, say "SRLE", and pass the credentials around. that user could put up all those guides that are linked to your first guide, neovalen. and anyone with the creds can edit it. i myself would only make a couple of things clearer. or explain some things in more detail. not adding mods, nor would i know when a mod needs to be adjusted in any way. but i guess even simply by just asking questions with the intention of changing things, bugs will become apparent, and there will be some general improvements to the guide, to make it very user friendly, while it becomes a bit like STEP: teaching you how to mod *while doing it*. -

Switching to SR:LE midway through a STEP (Extended) build
dps_kane replied to Badfrog88's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
hello there, i'm in the same boat. well.... i already finished my STEP setup and it's working. i added (with quite some hassle) realvision ENB and a couple of mods from the SR:LE page, as i initially thought it kinda builds on STEP. which it doesn't. nevertheless, i'm somewhere in the middle and i guess i start anew completely with SR:LE. STEP is great, but the simple truth is, i didn't really figure out how to go from STEP to something advanced that includes an ENB and various popular game-changing mods (like PerMa), nor is there any real support for female body mods (i seriously could use a good guide of how to setup CBBE/UNP and use bodyslide). anyway .... can someone quickly tell me, whether maybe going for SRLE LOTD (and beyond) makes sense on my machine? i have atm only a laptop, but the powerful Dell XPS, 16 GB RAM, [email protected], 500 GB SSD (of which 50-60% for skyrim is fine ;)) and an nVidia GTX 960M. The latter worries me, as anything else but the performance version of realvision (which is said to be already performance friendly) drops me to <10 FPS. so i am not sure how vividian with all the LotD mods will fare (it's okay for me to use the performance version) if one of the LotD authors reads this: i am a newb. but i am smart and with setting up my game via STEP i learned a lot. and i noticed a lot of things that could be described better/easier for those not already familiar with modding. kinda teaching how to mod on the go, without having the user to read a wall of description of how MO works, which the user forgets soon and has to look up again a few more times. STEP does a good job on the teaching part, but there is room for improvement. SR:LE has some things that STEP does not: like using ENB organizer (which STEP should use even without using an ENB preset), working with DDSopt, *having* an ENB ... SR:LE does lack quite a lot of explanations, IMO. e.g., why remove .txt files from mods? is there any gain? what is a .bsl file and why we remove it? how to organize mods to keep an overview (e.g., creating sections in MO like "=== 4. landscape ===", "=== 20. conflicting mods ===" ...) LOTD coloring is great, as it draws attention (and if neovalen inherits you the guide as currently discussed i hope you transfer that part ;)). i'd structure the guide into more pieces, though, make the sheer amount less overwhelming. my point is: i gladly would provide my POV as a newb, where i'd like to get a bit more "hand-holding", where explanations are missing, etc.; i made plenty of notes while following the STEP guide, could do that here, too. if you want ;) -
thumbs up from me for this. there are a few things that MO cannot handle, notibly almost anything that doesn't go into the data folder or is a base ini file (skyrim, skyrimprefs). ENB presets are one of those. don't know where to add this exactly, but i actually would suggest to install the ENB organizer and using it to set up the ENBoost file & settings. for non ENB users this is a little bit more work. for everyone else it immediately tells them: hey, here is another tool that will help you to switch to an ENB preset after a first core/extended installation with ENBoost. it even allows you to quickly switch between various ENB presets.

suggestion for STEP guide w.r.t. ENBoost
dps_kane replied to dps_kane's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
hm.... then maybe not. the only thing i am now familiar with w.r.t. xEdit is basic cleaning (ITMs and UDRs). might take a while before i get to know how to resolve conflicts. but i'll keep 2.10.0 in the back of my head. if i do it one day, i'll write you directly w.r.t. any things i found confusing or hard to understand in the guide. -
Mod Organizer "failed to initialize renderer
dps_kane replied to ShiftyPrick's question in Mod Organizer Support
hi Joat_Mon, ah, that's the page I was on, I followed those instructions. so I should have both dx9 and dx12. many thanks for pointing it out, though! @administrators of the guide: don't know about this, but the "ALTERNATIVELY" part is kinda useless to me, as it says if the wrapper doesn't work as advertised. I have no idea what the wrapperversion is supposed to do. the optional part, btw: maybe it should be said that many video games have better performance if run in windowed mode. i did place those settings. -
suggestion for STEP guide w.r.t. ENBoost
dps_kane replied to dps_kane's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
oot: i saw the xp32 skeleton mod of STEP:extended has been replaced, too. maybe i'll do that here, then ;) i think that does explain it better for people with little experience in modding skyrim, thanks. due to my worries about having done something to my graphics settings or just screwn up my skyrim settings (or none of both), i could actually go reinstall everything and go through the 2.10.0 guide as is and provide you with direct feedback from a newb point of view, if you want. then maybe via PM, though, to not go offtopic all the time... years ago i modded oblivion using wrye bash with about 150-200 mods stable, but atm i do indeed consider myself a newb ;) but very capable of learning :P thanks for the help, techangel -
Mod Organizer "failed to initialize renderer
dps_kane replied to ShiftyPrick's question in Mod Organizer Support
in my skyrimprefs.ini it is set correctly to my nvidia. why it got the low settings is still a mystery to me. about directx9: if i use google to look for dx9 and go to the main page from MS, then the installer would deny me to use it, as it's not supported by win10. hm.... i did benchmarking yday and the game started and looked just fine (finished with part 2.D in the 2.2.9.2 guide). but GPU-z got only core clock and temperature information, nothing else (and GPU-z was also set for my nvidia graphics). Which worries me... if it's just skyrim i can redo the installation, not a huge deal. if i fudged up important graphics settings, without finding out where and how and why, that would be less cool :( will continue with STEP 2.E today -
suggestion for STEP guide w.r.t. ENBoost
dps_kane replied to dps_kane's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
but that guide is not yet released as stable, right? i see that the first mentioning of ENBoost and ENB in general is in the detailed instructions of bethINI. I do not know, to me it makes sense to clarify somewhere before what ENBoost/ENB presets are or to offer at various step "very first STEP setup" and "STEP setup with ENB preset". i agree with bandy, though ;) -
Mod Organizer "failed to initialize renderer
dps_kane replied to ShiftyPrick's question in Mod Organizer Support
I always thought DirectX is backwards compatible. Like .... you can only have one directx version installed, but if it is, e.g., 11, then anything needing lowerversions are covered. ... I'll check the link, thanks. Small update: I did a restart and now other games are working again just fine. I then did your initial suggestion again (deleting inis). Skyrim still detected that my graphics card cannot handle anything better than low settings, but ... dunno. if this is a bad sign, please let me know, because then there must be something wrong with my graphics drivers now. I did change everything manually, did all the STEP suggested ini settings, and now the game launches. can't say anything about quality yet, didn't have the time to check that.
