Highlights

A new game is recommended but if continuing a 2.2.0 playthrough, it's important to use the clean save procedure to ensure things will work as well as can be expected in 2.3. Always create a new MO instance from the previous build, and upgrade the new instance. This preserves the 2.2.0 build if things don't work out.

  • To improve viability of any given guide release, a few 'Extenders' mods have been replaced by 'NG' versions. This decision was made for two reasons:
    • The NG versions are based on a more progressive version of CommonLib that is more future proof to game updates. In short, they won't need updates as often.
    • The original non-NG versions tend not to be updated until many months after game updates, and we just don't want to wait if it isn't necessary.
  • Immersive Sounds - Compendium with AOS patches and extensions have been added to complement AOS and comprehensively enrich the soundscape.
  • Several other game-enhancing mods have been added (see below for details).
  • Step is no longer recommending manual cleaning of Dawnguard.esm. The "quick auto clean" (QAC) procedure is all that's necessary.
  • It is now recommended to set Particles to 7500 in SkyrimPrefs.ini ('Detail' section of the BethINI Setup).
  • Step's DynDOLOD implementation now relies on DynDOLOD DLL NG (and related scripts) rather than Papyrus. This allows use of some automated large-reference fixes now available via DynDOLOD processing.
  • WACCF is now a hard requirement of the Step SSE guide (as it had been prior to 2.1.0), because this mod essentially 'fixes' corresponding vanilla inconsistencies.
  • Step will maintain support for CCOR, CACO, and TCIY as optional installs, since these mods do make some changes that align with but do not strictly adhere to the Step Mandate or can present compatibility issues with using the Step SSE build as a foundation for a custom mod build.

20-Patches

The Step Conflict Resolution Patch is now delivered as separate files to fix MO's update tracking features. The optional files that apply should be installed into separate mods just after Step Patch - Conflict Resolution. Going forward, this will allow each file to be flagged by MO if it has been updated.
