CTD/Freeze when getting closer to whiterun stables.

Question

Posted

It's been some weeks that i can't go near whiterun, first it was just when the giant died (companions killing him), but for some reason now I can go through that, but when I get close to the whiterun stables either it freezes or it CTD. I'm just running and out from nothing it crashes. I wouldn't post this here if I haven't tried a lot of stuff to get it fix.

Lvl 3 brand new save (first time going near whiterun of course, as I said, I am near the giant's death).

I use LOOT and NMM.

As far as I know my mods shouldn't conflict with each other, the only ones that I know that conflicts are SkyDie and SkyRe but this was intended.

I've cleaned up my save file. I've cleaned all the mods with TES5Edit. Solved all the errors and messages that were present in LOOT. I've unpacked Skyrim - Meshes.bsa and installed it again with NMM. I've unnistalled all mods that alters whiterun exteriors (at least the ones that i know that does this), reinstalled them again, because it didn't solve this. Made some tweaks in both Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini.

I've two skyrim installed: one with mods and one without. When I loaded the save game in the one with no mods it worked just fine, so think that maybe this is because of one or more mods conflicting, but if it is the case, i don't know which.

Here is my load order:

Intel® Core i7-3632QM CPU @ 2.20GHZ 2.20GHZ
RAM: 6GB (usable:5,82GB)
64 bits

Intel® HD Graphics 4000 (Dedicated memory: 182mb/Total: 2GB)

(I think this is all that maters from my system specs :)

Skyrim is using about 1,1GB of RAM when the game loads, then it goes up to 1,3GB or 1,4GB but it always goes up a little bit when the game CTD or freeze, when it freezes if I let the game there for a while the RAM amount the game uses goes down to about 300mb. My task manager says that I am using 95% of my RAM when the game is about 1,4GB, although I have 6GB of RAM, I don't know why. I am running some stuff in the background if this matters but all of them don't use more then 100mb and I am pretty shure they are not making my RAM go that crazy. Already Ran the game without anything in the background but the issue persisted. My FPS is around 20.

Uptade:

I forgot to say, due to Horses on Patrol there is a patrol there with about 8 or some imperial soldiers with horses, they're near the giant's death.

Some weird stuff happens sometimes, like when the game loads and I get closer to the giant's Death, the horses and soldiers from that patrol sometimes fall from the sky, some other I find them mounted on "invisible horses". Sometimes they're just teletransporting really really fast from here and there and/or they're on their feet mounted on their horses and so on.

Make sure you're using using SKSE and ENBoost, and check Memory Blocks Log to make sure the crash near Whiterun isn't a memory allocation issue.

For stuff falling out of the sky, make sure you have VSync enabled and/or capped to 60 FPS. The physics in Skyrim does wonky stuff like this if it gets above 60 FPS.

I have no idea why you'd want to extract Skyrim - Meshes.bsa or why you'd want to have two installs of Skyrim, but this is probably another topic for another time. I'll just say it's a lot easier to switch to Mod Organizer so you can switch profiles on the fly.

I can't see how it's possible to have 2 Skyrim installs, the registry will only have entries for one of them! So unless there is a VERY GOOD reason to do so, I suggest you remove one of them.

Also with only an Intel Graphics card I don't believe you should be looking at anything above 20fps.

I'm using SKSE, and yes it is the latest version. I don't use ENB. I don't particularly care about these minor bugs, i just wanna make the game playable... so you know... I can play it XD.

The Reason I Extracted Skyrim - Meshes.bsa was because of a guy (or girl) with the same problem as me said that he or she solved it by doing it.

(If by some reason you want to check it out here's the link to the topic: https://www.loverslab.com/topic/44846-skyrim-whiterun-stables-ctd-giants-death/ weirdly poested on loverslab)

I had two skyrim installs at first because one of my friends that started playing this waaaayyyyyy more time than me said for me to at least end the main quest of the game without mods so I can have the "vanilla feel of it". Anyway, I did it also so if by some reason I ruined everything in one game I could have the other to save myself ;)

I am using both Mod Organizer and NMM, but I have only one mod installed with Mod Organizer, NMM is kinda of my main thing.

The way I had two skyrim installs was obvious: just installed them in different folders:

With Mods: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim - Legendary Edition

Without Mods:C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Vanilla\The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim - Legendary Edition

The only problem I had with the registry entries was NMM and Mod Organizer finding the game on the location on the one that was installed later on, which was the non modded one. But that wasn't a problem for me because you can change that manually after, and I'm not using Steam, so having no problems with launching the game.

Update:

So I "kinda of" solved my problem on my on. I must admit that it's the first time I REALLY started modding Skyrim (before I just installed one or two mods in one game). But the problem I did here was that I installed all of that mods at once, without testing it. I've deleted the modded one and started a new save in the other one, because thanks to this problem I've went to Skyre page in Nexus and I've noticed the big sign there "Perkus Maximus, the successor to SkyRe, is out", so it was kinda of a good thing in the end this happened :D. I've already heard of it before, but I didn't know it was SkyRe's successor.

My game is stable now, Level 8, already went to whiterun, and I have 30 to 40 mods installed, can't remember the exact number, but from now on I'm going to play the game and installing one mod at a time, test it for some 2-3 hours, than install another on and so on, and whatever NPC's/locations it changes I will go in there and test them.

I am just getting one really weird bug that i would like to fix, but if there's no way to fix it, i can live with it, now I have Perkus Maximus and there's one conjuration spell that I bought for like, 15 gold, and I am in the middle of the first dragon battle in whiterun and i use this spell, and the character that comes is called "Nalcarya's Reflection", the problem is that she is waaaayyy to much overpowered, she killed the dragon on her on, and I've tried to kill her, she has more HP than the dragon itself, is this normal? If by some case is, there's a way for me to tweak one NPC's stats only? And make them permanent so every time I use this spell she is not overpowered? If there's no way to fix this, I just won't use the spell :D

Update: forget the spell problem, discovered why it's happening. I never expected it was going to be because of this, but here it is: the winterhold rebuilt mod adds several followers to the game, which I didn't expected to happen. But one particularly follower, the owner of the mod decided to make it a spell and not an npc, and it's nalcarya, this spell was added by this mod and this is why it's so cheap. He putted her max. lvl as 70 and as I have a mod that disables leveling in skyrim, she reaches to a ridiculously high level.

These are completely different issues. If you are using Nexus Mod Manager or manually install mods, loose files always have priority over files stored in a BSA, so the only problem extracting Skyrim - Meshses.bsa will solve is overwriting a corrupt mesh installed by some other mod or reverting the texture path back to the vanilla texture to fix a corrupt texture installed by some other mod.

Ah.. glad to hear you figured out the issue with this overpowered NPC.

As for the double Skyrim installs, you don't need them if you use Mod Organizer. I tend to think of Nexus Mod Manager as more of an automated mod installer since it doesn't really have much management capabilities at all. The advantage of using Mod Organizer is that the Skyrim folders remain almost pristine (with the only exception being the SKSE and ENBoost binaries. All mods are installed outside the Skyrim folder structure and it's trivially easy to switch profiles (and save games) with one click. I have a vanilla profile, a STEP Extended profile, a custom profile, and a test profile that so I can switch to any of them with one click without having to touch anything in the Skyrim folder.

Sorry to be resurrecting the topic, but I found the solution to the problem.

I managed to fix this problem by doing the following:

replace the files in the folder:

Data\Meshes \actors\

just copy and put the actors from the FNIS Creature Pack 7.6 program into the folder:

Data\Meshes\actors\

do the validation by GenerateFNISforUsers (run) and see if it worked ... here it worked!

he already suspected that the problem was in the Meshes.

thank you!
