I updated MO and now I get "Failed to write: ... -meta.ini error 1"

Question

I have no idea what to do. One day I decided to update Mod Organizer after procrastinating a few weeks and now I get this error:

It triggers approximately 300 times, one for each mod I have installed, and then starts again from the beginning in a never-ending cycle. The string of errors seem to only happen when I try to check for updates my the list of mods and I have to shut down MO with task manager to get out of it.

Does anyone know what might be wrong?

The problem is a UAC issue.

  1. Find your Skyrim directory (normally located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\).
  2. Right-click the Skyrim folder and select Properties.
  3. Go to the Security tab and click Edit...
  4. Highlight Users (\Users) in the top panel.
  5. In the bottom panel, under the Allow column for Full Control, check the checkbox and click Apply.
  6. Click OK and OK and you're done.
